Random thing you loathe right now.

Tipping prompts. Not tipping per se, but the cash register/ checkout prompts for 15/20/25% that seem to be implemented everywhere possible - convenience stores, self-checkout aisles, you name it.

Sitting at the airport gate. A security alarm has been going off for 20 minutes. Staff doesn't care, they just said "it happens sometimes". No one is worried so what the f*ck are security alarms for?
It feels like they have gone out of their way to make flighting unpleasant between tsa, apathetic employees, delays, cramped seating etc
They deserve to go out of business.

It's likely not their alarm to check out, so the complaint is more appropriately directed at the airport security staff than the gate agents. Someone working the gate isn't likely able to do anything about airport security alarms anyways, and has probably been inadvertently trained to ignore them by the actual airport security staff. They're very likely not allowed to do anything about the alarms, and have to wait like everyone else for security to do something about them. This happens with security stuff all the time, especially if the alarms are overly sensitive. They get so used to them going off for no reason that they won't notice the time they go off for an actually valid reason.

The tipping prompts are there for people who can't do that math. And those who don't ever tip, to make them feel at least a bit guilty when the cashiers says "You didn't put your tip on the receipt, would you like me to add it?".

Shingrix was hard, but after seeing friends with shingles I definitely was motivated to go through with it.

I don't think the objection is to the fact that the prompts exist. It is that they are everywhere and in many places they don't need to be.

Yup - showing up in places where tipping historically did not occur.

Kids got head lice from school. Our first time dealing with it after 5 and a half years of having kids. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Get the special comb and shampoo and you'll be fine in no time.

Being informed my position was eliminated, before the holidays, while 650 miles from home on pto.

Damn that sucks. Hopefully you’re getting some severance?

My wife is in school to become a family nurse practitioner, something I whole-heartily support.

That said, there is a limit to the number of full physical exams one can tolerate in a single day. Mine is 8.

On the plus side, your prostate has never felt so seen.

TIL I've been going to the wrong kind of nurse practitioner.

Office last day was 11/15 but they are paying me through 12/1 and have benefits through end of year. They offered me 6 months salary plus $6500 for insurance extension in one lump sum. Signed the agreement for it the next day after a labor lawyer friend took a look at it. She said it was actually pretty employee friendly.

So now have to wait 15 days(not sure if business days) that Minnesota gives me the ability to revoke my authorization. If I do not revoke it, then it will proceed to payroll. We'll see if I get it before end of year. In the mean time, have to wait till 12/2 when officially unemployed to apply for unemployment. They are also paying for job placement assistance program to help with resume/LinkedIn/etc.

I wish, the closest this gets to a racy, good time is when I get my femoral arteries palpated.

As happens every now and then, we got an "invitation" to buy Omaha Steaks. Basically, these are over-priced frozen steaks you can get delivered to your house if you don't believe in butchers and want to spend way too money for steaks that were cut a long time ago...

Okay. Fine. Nothing new about this.

Except... For the first time I noticed the return address: "John Galt Blvd".

Oh HELL no! Might as well just be "All The Market Will Bear Street" or "FU Way" or "I Got Mine From Yours Ave."

NEVER touching anything with that street address...

Selfishness is a virtue!

Re:Omaha steaks

You ain't missing anything. I tried them on a whim a few years ago and it was bullsh*t quality meat.

Admittedly, our grocery store at the time was a fru-fru expensive one with a killer butcher dept, so I'm comparing them with legit good steaks.

We have a butcher nearby that actually butchers their animals, and has been in the same location since the 19th century. Hard to beat that even though they were bought by a regional butcher; they get most of their business from restaurants but still maintain the tiny shop with the line out the door.

Honestly, if you buy meat by mail, you *should* compare it to the good stuff. Otherwise, why pay the premium?

We did Omaha Steaks when the specials were $49.99, not bad bug pricy a long time ago. Now I think the specials are $99.99?

Wife (33) noticed a lump in her left breast the other day. After doing a bit of digging, it seems like breast cancer runs in the family. We don't know many of her relatives too well, so information is a bit hazy. Had an ultrasound today, and now we wait...

Trying very hard not to worry until we have more information, but it's hard given the history of cancer on her side. I'm also concerned because she already has a number of health problems and I'd hate to know what tackling this on top of everything else would do to her.

Just back from the followup appointment and it's NOT CANCER

What a bloody relief.

That is terrific news!

Yay! Glad her body took the first exit ramp on the road!

My wife goes in for bariatric surgery wednesday morning.

One of the instructions is "you must stay within 20 minutes of the hospital for 48 hours after the surgery."

They are experts, and this is the only type of surgery they do, but those words do not fill me with peace of mind.

It might be worth asking if she can just stay those 48 hours in the hospital. I expect that's a situation where what is actually called for is that the patient stays in the hospital for 48 hours after surgery, but insurance companies being insurance companies means a lot of people can't afford to, so that's the compromise they make.

My wife recently had surgery and the hospital's assumption was she'd be discharged as soon as the anesthesia wore off enough, which given the time it was scheduled would probably hae been around midnight. When she asked if she could just spend the first night in the hospital instead her doctor immediately agreed and definitely gave us the impression she'd hoped that my wife would ask for that.

It is out of an abundance of precaution.

I had bariatric surgery about 15 years ago, and I had to go back in after there was blood in my stool. The thinking at the time was that there were about six or seven things it could be, and only one of those was bad. So they tested to make sure it wasn't the bad one and once they were convinced it wasn't, sent me back on my way.

I lost about 120 lbs. Your wife will be fine, and will be better for it.

I will keep her, you, and your family in my thoughts MB.

We asked if she could stay in the hospital for those two days. And we’re informed no. That the risk of something going wrong was not great enough that a hospital stay, including all of the nursing care that’s required for a hospital stay is indicated. However, the risk is significant enough that we need to stay within 20 minutes.

What makes it worse is that there’s only two cities in our province that does these surgeries, and we not live in that city. So we are hotelling it for a couple days for her surgery.

It’s probably nothing. Where they are doing it this is the only type of surgery they do, they are experts, they do this literally day in and day out. So mentally I know there’s not an issue. Emotionally, that’s a whole different story.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. It’s appreciated.

As a precaution most likely, it is major surgery that they do well. The digestive system is incredibly important, and while the problems may be rare, the problems can be serious. She's in good hands, but yeah, the stress isn't pleasant.

So I guess its a thing now, with all the sh*t we just have to have more more MORE.
Thieves are holding up mail deliverers for their mailbox keys.
This just happened to our apartment's mail man and someone in our building has already had identity theft because of it.

As much as I want these assholes to get caught, I do pity them in the unlikely event they do. That is basically assault on a federal employee. So that means big time jail sentences.
