The Republican candidates, especially Ramaswamy. Actually, the whole damn race for President.
Youtube slipping in some video about the "immorality of homosexuality" in my feed, tucked away between a metric ton of Thai boy's love TV shows and fitness videos featuring hot shirtless guys.
Seriously, Youtube? Shouldn't you know me better than this?

I wish they would take a Valve approach and let users tag videos.
To add on to that my ad blockers finally stopped working on youtube for me. Well how bad can it be...

Jesus, was it always like this? The sheer volume of low effort scam ads is crazy.

My Youtube premium trial ended yesterday. For some reason Youtube hasn't complained yet. I've probably jinxed it by typing it though.

Use Firefox , with uBlock. Problem solved!
Yeah I think Google added something to Chrome recently that detects adblockers and prevents the video from playing. Firefox+uBlock continues to be the browser for the people.
I've had Youtube Premium since Vsauce had their "Mind Field" show that was only available with the service. I could never go back to ads now. I also get Youtube Music with it--- but I wish the two things were more separate from each other. I use Youtube Music mainly to play relaxing music for my dog when I'm at work, but it's not cool when I'm watching a Kpop music video playlist and Youtube decides to throw in my dog's music into the mix.
Having said that, what I've heard from others is that the ads are completely unreasonable now. Along with the scam stuff, I've seen reports of people getting stuff like 2 hour long unskippable ads. It's really awful to make the ads as unbearable/horrible as possible AND try to block any adblockers from the site. If they want people to not use adblockers, at least have moderated ads in 30-60 second blocks with a reasonable time between them.

That's my setup. Plus ad block plus. What I did for a while was alternate between them. Worked for a very long while, but stopped suddenly. From what I read it's a bit random if you get hit or not. Basically an arms race between the two groups, and honestly I can't imagine google losing if they don't want too.
and people are still trying to figure out how to stay in the Central Valley...
My whole childhood was about finding a way out.

Some people pay good money for that.

I attempted to watch a PotatoMcWhisky video on my iphone last week. it started with 2 unskippable ads - that took 4 minutes. the video then played for 3 minutes, and the showed 2 ads for a total of about 90 seconds. I could skip the second. That carried for for another 3 minutes / 90 seconds of adds until about the half hour mark, then there were 2 unskippable ads that took about 3 minutes.
I gave up. U-Block Origin still works on Chrome for me, so I'm not too worried and some very simple googling will give you the configurations needs to get around it if google does start playing up.
I used to use YouTube Vanced on my android tablet until that stopped working, I can't use ReVanced because my Arm chip is too old. Out of the plethora of options available, I'm thinking of either paying for a DNS service now, or learning how to set up PiHole. We do use a variety of devices in this house so a once size fits all solution would be best.
Twitch is going down the same route unfortunately. And if it were say a minute or two of ads every 20 minutes or so, I'd probably put up with it.

Jeepers... you mean I could start a website service... called OnlyFarts..?

What would a DNS service or a PiHole do to help with the YouTube ads? Asking for a friend...

As much YouTube as I watch, I have no problem paying $15/mo for it. At least some of that is going to the creators I watch. I know YouTube is not the greatest at paying people but it’s better than nothing. And no ads other than sponsored segments in videos, but those are easy to skip.
And of course music, background playback, and downloads. Although downloading isn’t really a benefit for me with unlimited data on my mobile.
It's worth it to me just for downloads. I work in various rural and/or mountainous areas where data reception is spotty, lots of dead zones.

If I understand it all, it effectively filters your internet traffic as it comes through your router, and blocks ads before you even open your browser or tablet/mobile device Apps.
For the DNS services you have to set up the appropriate filters yourself, but there are many pre-filter lists out there you can download and use. It’s quite easy to filter out useful websites though so you have to tread carefully and be prepared to have to edit your filters. This is the bit that worries me as I’d to learn that in a house with impatient Children and partner!
PiHole uses a Raspberry Pi connected to your router. I have no idea how that works, just that it does. I need to read more.

I set it up a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, you need to change the DNS server in the router's configuration to use the Raspberry Pi (or any other computer, I think Pi Hole can work on multiple platforms), so that all traffic goes through it so it can be filtered.
One thing I've encountered is that some websites (HowToGeek comes to mind) may not work anymore, as they have a popup that shows up if ads do not load. There may be workarounds, I haven't looked to much into it.
Which reminds me that I should probably SSH into mine and run updates, haven't done that in a long time.
Don’t expect PiHole or other DNS-based solutions to be effective at blocking YouTube ads. YouTube serves ads off the same domain as the site.
DNS solutions are best for blocking ads coming from 3rd party ad networks.

This is the assumption I was under. My hopes got up that a PiHole has some magic built in for YouTube somehow. Sadness.

Turns out I did not write down the username and password for the OS on my Pi Hole and I can't SSH into it anymore. Oh well, I will have to rebuild it. Probably a good thing, it's using my old Pi 1, and I think I have a 2 I'm not using somewhere. Weekend project!
Shingrix. I mean I certainly won’t loathe it keeping me from getting shingles, but daaaaamn this thing is kicking my butt more than any other shot I’ve ever had. First dose three months ago laid me out for the better part of a week. The second dose yesterday seems well on its way to outdoing the first.
That sucks. But I'm planning to get it as soon as they will let me. I've had some family members suffer shingles and damn.
I pester my doctor at every physical to see if they will give it to anyone under 50 but nope.
Yeah, it’s definitely worth getting the vaccine. I had three family members pick up shingles in the last year, and no thank you to that. A week of violent chills and a sore arm is still far preferable.
My loathe I’ve been keeping in lately. It’s not a cry for help. I’m just depressed and fussy. My contract at work is up. I work for a big old Hospital TM. They are only willing to give one small part of my group a raise. Been on a strike since the first. It sucks not knowing. Boo big corporate hospital.
Sitting at the airport gate. A security alarm has been going off for 20 minutes. Staff doesn't care, they just said "it happens sometimes". No one is worried so what the f*ck are security alarms for?
It feels like they have gone out of their way to make flighting unpleasant between tsa, apathetic employees, delays, cramped seating etc
They deserve to go out of business.
I would say nationalize the airlines until I remember what Republicans have done to the SSA.
And can you imagine Tubbervilles stops on pilot approvals because flight attendants act to gay?
Airport/airlines stuff
100 percent. Plus don't forget all the assholes coughing up a storm not masking. And the airlines not doing a thing about it.
(I just traveled to Canada and back by plane and caught COVID.)
Of course the "its not COVID". But I don't care because I am sure you didn't test so you don't know. And I don't want bronchitis, pneumonia, or the flu either.
I hate this "we'll just deal with it" attitude. It cost me a week of work/pay. Plus how many people did I then unknowingly infect?
