Random thing you loathe right now.

I kind of wanted to watch a Fast and Furious movie this weekend and found it is a good example of the hodge podge of streaming.

From here

The Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious are both available on Hulu and HBO Max, for subscribing members.

The franchise's third installment, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, is currently only available via VOD.

Fast & Furious (alternatively known as Fast & Furious 4) and Fast Five are both available on Peacock.

Fast & Furious 6 is available via Hulu, Peacock, and also Sling.

Furious 7 is available on Hulu and Sling.

The Fate of the Furious (F8) is not available for free on any subscriptions. However, you can rent F8 on VOD.

F9 is available streaming VOD on Amazon, YouTube or AppleTV.

So you would need at least 5 different services to watch all 9 movies. That is just stupid.

You only need one service to watch all of those movies that are worth watching. Hint: there's only one and it doesn't have a number in the title but does have Paul Walker.

That said I totally get the frustration. My wife wanted to watch Mayor of Kingstown. Got paramount plus and watched it. Then she figured we could watch Yellowstone since it was distributed by Paramount and airs on Paramount. Nope. It's only on Peacock now. 1883 is only on Paramount. At least we had a few good years with streaming nirvana when it was only netflix but that time is long past.

We cancelled netflix for the first time ever last month. From now one we'll be starting and stopping services every month. If I work hard enough maybe I can sync them all up so that I can stop/start on the same day each month.

I thought that was the whole point of Peacock, bringing all the Universal stuff under one service. But I guess pre-existing agreements? Maybe HBOMax carried previous HBOGo licenses too? Weird.

Then again we're still watching This is Us episodes on Hulu, even though it's an NBC thing. No idea how these things work sometimes.

We do that with Netflix/Hulu. Usually for 2-3 months a year, enough to catch up on everything we want on Hulu. So Netflix 9-10 months, and Hulu 2-3. Disney+ we keep all the time because we're splitting it with family.

Never got Paramount+ because I could use a VPN to watch ST:Discovery and Picard through Netflix/Amazon. But looks like they got pulled from some of those for the most recent season so not sure what I'll do. Maybe never finish. Maybe a trial. Maybe...

Here's a relevant loathe:

Why the heck does Paramount+ NOT remember which goddamn episodes I've watched? Seriously, that's like "streaming video 101". It keeps trying to tell me that Discovery season 2 episode whatever is up next, when I've literally watched every episode, and it doesn't think that I've watched any of Picard.

Same with Halo. It tries to start episode 1 every time I fire it up even though I'm on episode 5.

Honestly, every interface that isn't exactly the same as Netflix's is complete crap. But at least most of them aren't as bad as AMC+. It's absolutely horrendous. In some cases there isn't even a way to get out of the show you are watching. Firefox saved a link to a specific Walking Dead on the new tab and if we click it, it plays that show with no way to get to any other episode, show, or any other part of AMC+. It makes Prime's interface look brilliant.

In Pixels, the gamers are called "Arcaders." I've never heard anybody say that before.

Google gave me a flat tire.

Earlier this week I got into my car and got a message that my keyless entry fob needed a new battery. I googled what battery I needed and bought one on the way to work. After work, with the new battery installed, I return to my car but it wouldn’t open. I fiddled with my fob, and eventually get in and get it started. But then it still says my battery should be replaced, and stops detecting it.

I drive to get another battery thinking the first was somehow a dud, but the new new battery does the same thing. I can pry the fob open, fiddle with the battery and get it to work, but if I put the fob back together my car says it can’t detect it.

I call a dealership and try to explain to the person on the phone what’s going on. They say bring it in and someone can look at it. I do so. The person immediately tells me I have the wrong battery- Google told me it was a 2025, but I needed a 2036 which is ever so slightly thicker. I buy one and drive home, but realize on getting home that I have a flat tire from hitting a pothole near the dealership.

So if Google had told me the correct battery in the first place I wouldn’t have gotten a flat. Wound up needing all 4 tires replaced- and that was probably long overdue - but that’s $775 that I wasn’t planning on spending this month.

Crowds clapping along at the end of a concert.

They always ALWAYS clap on 1 and 3.

It makes me cringe so hard every time. I try to help them correct it, but I am just one man among hundreds.

One band I saw a lot actually expected that to happen, and when they came back for the encore he always had some silly thing to say about why they left the stage.

There’s always the Harry Connick approach to fix the problem.

My favourite thing about that clip is the little celebration from the drummer in the background.

Having too many things to do.

  1. I may be summoned to jury duty this week.
  2. I have a lot to do at work in the next week.
  3. I am getting back into reading in my free time.
  4. I just started playing Persona 5 Royal and for some reason, unlike other Persona games, I'm really enjoying it.
  5. I am in the middle of packing for a move to the next state over, which includes all the sh*t required when moving states.

We know he was hurting most of all during that time.

Haven't felt this terrible about this country since Trump was elected.

Unfortunately I'm old enough to have felt terrible about this country since Reagan was elected. This was the obvious failure we were headed to. Not just RvW, but all of this Right-wing crap. And every time we had a choice, we either made the worse one, or had good choices neutered by bad people.

Yeah, I was born into the Reagan presidency, and too young to even remotely care about politics by the time I was cognizant that the US President was a thing. I have since learned, thanks to The Dollop, a great deal about Reagan.

Reagan was to Nixon as whomever succeeds Trump is to Trump. The original is the crook. The disciple normalizes it, corporatizes it and sells it to greater swaths of the country.

Nothing sucks more than be completely proven right on stuff like this but because of the nature of it, it's not something you want to gloat about either.

Not sure how much of this is a loath but at least its sort of interesting. Most companies I've worked for release some quarterly or yearly email about performance. Usually its 'oh look at us we are doing so well and making so much money'. Which never translates into raises though. That's definitely a loath.

I read them because sometimes an interesting number slips through. In this case they mentioned the attrition rate, IE people quitting and leaving, is 25%. Which seemed crazy high. My last company was around 13ish which I think is more normal. And they only mentioned it because the number went down...

I'm enjoying my job overall but, I never thought a number in an email could make me so nervous.

Feels like an employee market right now. Someone else will pay you more for the same job, and maybe remote and you don't even have to move.

Shop around.

My company did give like 3.5% raises to everybody this spring. But since inflation went up more than that...

Lot of people leaving it seems like.

Can't sleep, too much crap going on in my head and life right now.

It's 4:30 AM and I'm thinking I should start to work right away, because I'm not home and I don't really have anything to do.

Our living room TV is my loathe. Broke down and finally ordered an Apple TV last night. Our Samsung in the living room will not stay connected to the internet for more than a couple of hours at a time. Had to power cycle it twice last night while trying to watch Netflix. It would work for a couple of episodes and then drop the network. It is fine as a display (4k and HDR but far from top of the line) but even with a wired network connection it constantly drops the network. It also complains that it is low on storage space but it won't let me delete the apps we don't use because they were pre-installed. I could have put my old Xbox One X in there, but I figure the Apple TV will be simpler for my wife to use and there really isn't a great spot to put an Xbox (I bought a thing that lets you VESA mount an Xbox One X to the back of the TV, but the VESA pattern on our TV is too big to work with it so I returned it).

Little kid birthday parties.
That I'm hosting.
In 2 hours.

Be sure to follow the scripture. Have the younglings ingest sugar and caffeine. Then release the hoard. Let the screaming commence. The Flesh Maw of the Chosen Ones shall call forth the one birthed from the darkness.

And thus it came to pass. Two pinatas. Cake AND cupcake. Sugar water as far as the eye could see.

I never had allergies or at least to a noticeable degree. Yesterday I went to bed with the windows open and it rained. I've had a stuffed up drippy noise all day. This is so damn annoying.
