Random thing you loathe right now.

My boss used to do this. I understood why he was doing it since it was easier to look up the information and make notes on the whiteboard but was still annoying as hell.

Why wouldn't your boss use headphones, though?

I guess I don't understand why, in this situation, someone just doesn't have a $5 pair of headphones from the local discount store on hand.

Where I work, that kind of behavior would be an immediate, serious discussion with management, never to be repeated. Completely unprofessional to take over a shared work area like that.

He had to stand up to use the various whiteboards. We worked in the technical side so there was a lot of drawing on whiteboards as well as looking up part numbers and work orders. The frustrating thing was he would do it on every call regardless. I loved working with him and he's the best boss I've ever had but he was also kind of dumb.

Open offices are the worst. Except, it turns out, there's a layer of hell below open offices.

Today a co-worker has been making phone calls all day from his desk on his iPhone on speakerphone.

Ugh, people do this in restaurants too. I've gotten to the point of bringing a small pair of earbuds *everywhere*.

To hand to them?

No, for me. I just have some playlists on my phone so will put on my headphones and drown them out. Also works for loud children and for people watching YouTube videos on their phones (also without headphones) and any other similar disturbances. I can't control what all these other people do, but I can at least resolve the problem for myself, annoying as it may be. I probably *shouldn't* need to do it, but the alternative is (as well as my mood) would be worse.

Ah. Yeah, that didn't work in this case. I had noise canceling headphones on and I could hear his phone call through my headphones and over the top of my music.

I think it's harder in a work environment because there isn't as much background noise and a lot of times requires more focused concentration than me trying to read my fiction book on my Kindle app. Now I will say that a few years ago when I was in an office with cubicles, this guy sat across from me and was the noisiest person in practically every way. You could hear him eating and smacking and slurping constantly and it was just outright gross. I couldn't stand it. I specifically purchased some noise-cancelling headphones that were used in shooting ranges. It worked to stop me from hearing all the disgusting sounds, but having to wear them for the entire work-day gave me a real headache. I was finally at the point of asking to be moved somewhere away from him when they did a minor reorganization and that problem was solved before I went completely insane.

Organizational changes meeting invites with no warning, and no information till the actual meeting 24 hours later.

Vendor maintenance.

Kidney stones.

All three in the same 12 hour period. FUUUUUUUdge ripple!

edit: I don't loathe Fudge Ripple, just that I can't eat Ice Cream in general, but not related to the other three.

Minor loathe/pet peeve: miscommunication. I hate it when you say one thing, as clearly laid out as it can be, but the other person simply "hears" something else. Because then you're in a telephone game of constantly trying to get the other person to understand what you're actually saying. That stuff just drives me nuts.

Credit card fraud! Someone went to town in a random bar in Ohio last night. I live in Oregon.

So excited to switch to a new card number and get all my automatic payments switched over.

Bought a new iPhone last night so I can donate my X to a friend who broke her phone and can't afford a new one, but the old one's apparently swelling a bit after T-Mobile took it out of the case, so have to do all my meetings today from the car and Apple Store while they hopefully fix the battery, so it doesn't accidentally burn down her apartment.

Lesson learned.

Don't be kind to others.

Unfortunately, it was a swollen battery, and they couldn't repair or replace it. Fortunately, their policy is to just give you an entire new iPhone X, new in plastic, so she's getting a brand new, never-used phone.

Happened to me about 18 months ago, charges popping up in Atlanta.

The interesting thing was Netflix apparently has a deal with my card company and it got automatically switched to the new number. I guess they really count on those auto renewals?

More thesis loathes.

I've already received a month extension due to personal reasons, but I'm so far behind because my supervisor wasn't able to run the analysis on my data properly. I'm only just reaching a point where it's workable, and I have 2 weeks to write 6000+ words. But first, I need him to teach me how all of the tests work, and he's just not making himself available. We were supposed to meet today, but he forgot/didn't show up.

I've emailed him tonight saying "hey you really need to help me" but it's getting out of hand. I'm very close to speaking to the subject co-ordinator about it.

It's not entirely his fault, but at least 2 of the 4 weeks extra I was given have been useless because of his actions.

I've never been this stressed. I feel physically sick and just hurt all over. I need this to be done and then I need a holiday.

These types of arrangements are bad. My GF recently started getting charged for something she canceled years ago when her CC expired and somehow that company got the updated info and reactivated her account. I kind of wish my CC company was one of the ones that will let you set up single use or single vendor numbers.

When Amazon tracking says "delivered" but nothing arrived.

I hate that. We go through periods where a contract service has a bad driver, and it always takes a few weeks for them to be caught.

Soon to have no electricity thanks to the new normal of California fire prevention. Oh well, at least I didn't buy The Outer Worlds in the hopes of spending all weekend playing it; then I'd really be pissed off.

They should be made to pay!

My uncle’s house burned to the ground in the Paradise fire. His family barely escaped with their lives.

Tweens.

I have 3 friends from work (Sun/Oracle, when I worked there), who lost their houses in fires near LA and San Diego in about a 5 year period. One had just uprooted his life and moved out there. Unimaginable, except that it actually happens to people...

Dunno if it was my kids doing or my own clumsiness... but someone took over my computer and spurred a spree on my credit card. 123,45 euro's got transferred every 10 seconds from Paypal to the Philippines - till my balanced was reached and it came to a grinding halt.

Within an hour I blocked my card, phoned paypal and asked to cancel or refund these payments.

Friendly bots at Paypal decided nothing illegal happened and refuse to reimburse. 8 payments within 2 minutes (till no balance, and I react within 50 minutes!!!).

I am pretty sure I'll get my money back - but the plodding through all the menus and service calls which point at ME as the criminal... YUCK!

Anyone know a more safe, friendly payment method online?

Probably will put up my Tesla for sale.. bah!

I took to privacy.com some time ago, and while it's quite as not as easy as PayPal, it is still easy (with the browser extension) and a great, protective service. You can set up credit card numbers that have strict spending limits and lock a card to a merchant, so it can't be used elsewhere.

There is a limit to how many cards you create in a month, but if you aren't spreading your purchases around too much, it is free.

Urgh. Way back I used to browse a Paypal complaint website and some of the stuff on there was just bad. Inside accounts of how PP understood that if you create friction for unlocking funds then a certain percentage of people will give up, 100% profit for PP. So there were actual policies in place to make this happen. I guess then there was basically no alternatives so customers and merchants were pretty much stuck with them. Now that there's genuine competition you'd think their customer service would have improved.

A 45-minute argument with my yelling, kicking, stomping 10-year-old son about why he can't watch A Nightmare on Elm Street. Delightful.

Local McD’s hit a new low: half baked biscuit on the sandwich. Just cooked enough to appear done on the outside but not when you bite it. :/

Update. Paypal decided to change ways after my offer to take our differences to a higher instance. All will be paid.

Still a shame I had to gear up two steps (complain, complain about the outcome - and offer to go to court).
I pity the people who are not apt at disagreeing with companies behind a wall of text and menus.

Maybe go sure and show him the deep end so he doesn’t sleep every again.

Nine ten never sleep again.

P*ypal is a scam. Cut all ties, credit cards are more ethical and consumer friendly. They're not a bank, and not beholden to what little laws out there exist to actually protect you that exist among actual banking institutions. I'm stating this fully aware that banks and credit institutions are predatory AF.
