Terry Goodkind is (still) a Jackass

Goodkind is a jackass and unsurprisingly handled it poorly but it’s quite possible to have great artwork and still be a horrible cover if it has nothing to do with the characters. Happens all the time because the publishers don’t care enough to get it right. Drove me nuts as a kid.

I read a lot of bad sci-fi because of cool spaceships on the cover. I may have been dumb as a youngster. On the other hand I read Rendezvous with Rama before I knew how to pronounce "rendezvous".

I thought the cover looked fine, if generic, until I saw the artists's other work. O.O
Holy crap, he's so much better than that cover turned out. Someone dropped the ball on the consultations for the book.

Still, what a dick.

Attacking an artist's work then apologising after a backlash gets zero credit.

Gotta love this tidbit that someone in those comments linked from TV tropes:

"Soul of the Fire" describes a minority group that keeps itself in power by controlling the schools and teaching everyone in their society that they were the victim of a horrible injustice in the past and are therefore owed a great debt by the "evil" majority (and the horrible injustice may not have actually happened in the first place). They used this (along with being moneylenders who control the economy) to take control of the entire country during a crisis. Parallels to real-world groups are left as an exercise to the reader.

Damn...

Wow. WOW.

That's not an exercise, Tezza old mate, that's the full 3 hour lecture hall experience, delivered through a megaphone, in a Shylock costume, backdropped by a swastika.

I'm not sure what's worse, the frothing anti-semitism or his pomposity in thinking his massive mouthfart was somehow a crypto-fascist dogwhistle.

In which case you work it out with the publisher because they're the ones who f*cked up.

Unless you're a jackass, which, well...

A hardcore Randian who's also a jackass and a bigot? Well now I have seen everything!
