Goojers with job opportunities

It'd be a hell of a move but Bank of Hawaii might have that opening, I seem to recall that from last month's all hands. I'll see if I can find the best link on the internal website on Monday.

I'm unemployed again (have been since the first of April), but I've been having issues trying to find work in my field (Help Desk Tech/Junior System Admin).

Last contract I worked on was a government contract manning Tier 1 support, and I presume I still hold my clearance (public trust level). Experienced with Service Now PaaS, and remote administration (Azure AD). Can move my family either into Dallas-Ft. Worth, or Austin.

My company has an opening for a Business Development Associate. The office is located in Waltham, MA, but remote work is possible from some states and parts of Canada: US locations are: FL, LA, MA, MN, NC, NH, NY (except for New York City), VA, WV. Canadian provinces are: NB, NL, NS, ON, PE, QC.

My team is hiring a lead (aka senior) project manager.

Seattle/Bellevue area

We are a pretty awesome group within a awesome company. The hiring manager for this role is a great guy, super empathetic. Hit me up if you want to know more.

Our Cloud Services team (that I have just joined) is looking to hire a programmer dedicated to automating / utilizing cloud resources in AWS and Azure. We're currently under a mandate to deliver Microsoft 365 infrastructure and apps, so that would be the focus for the first few months to a year. That would expand to encompass a lot more later.

PM me if you have questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

I’ve been approached by a recruiter for a position doing most of what I do now but would pay $10 more an hour then what I make now.

Only thing that gives me pause is that it would be a 1 year contract for hire. Does anyone have experience with that? Anything I should watch out for?

Looking for a GS12 or GS13 level hire of an aerospace engineer. Might be mostly materials related work out of Huntsville, AL but it hasn't been posted yet so I'm not sure. Looks to be direct NASA hire.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

If you are a contractor, not a W2 employee, they'd have to pay a lot more than $10 an hour more to make it worth your while. Think about double your rate to go from W2 to contractor once you factor in the cost of the extra taxes, insurance, etc.

Contract-to-hire potential after a year is worth nothing, ignore it in your calculations and assume you'll either be out of a job after a year or stay a contractor.

Also worth finding out about the contracting agency, a lot of these types of positions you work for the contracting agency and are assigned to a client site where you work.

Hi all. I just recently started working for Czarnowski, a large event/tradeshow marketing company. With large gatherings shutting down, I am part of a team researching options for virtual/tele options. I'm working to pull together a list of options for the following categories in different regions:

Categories:
Live Streaming Crews (regional & National)
Video Production (Regional)
WebGL developers
Freelance Digital Producers (regional & National)
Virtual Production (regional and national)

Regions we're most interested in:
Atlanta
LA
Detroit
Chicago
Orlando
Denver
Boston
Dallas

If anybody here falls into any of those buckets, or if you know of people or companies that do, please let me know!

This does not guarantee anything, we're just gathering info at this point, but you never know.

Thanks!

As someone who's been doing contract consulting for about 6 years now, you can be a contractor and be on a W2. Just depends on the particular job.

My first contract I did directly with the company and got a really good rate, only to underestimate my social security taxes that are doubled when working independently. I'd paid my estimated taxes, just not enough. Ended up having a big bill on April 15. I was paid via 1099 on that one.

Since then I've worked through a company both through their staffing arm and directly through them to clients. These contracts have all be W2, and they pay half the SSI taxes and withhold taxes like a regular job. They're just limited in time.

Know that as a contractor, you're probably first out the door at times like these unless you can prove your worth pretty quickly. Also, in your mind, the "hire" part of contractor should be a nice thing if you like the job, not an expected thing. I'd talk to the recruiter (if they're independent) and see if they actually know of others that have gone perm in similar arrangements with the company.

I've made a lot more money contracting doing about the same work I did before at the place I worked for 19 years, even when I've had years where I've been between engagements for 2-3 months. But it's a risk you have to be comfortable with.

A professional WebGL project sounds super fun, at the very least I wanna hear about it if it turns into anything.

Be warned, if you make a WebGL virtual social space where polygon avatars can chat and slam imgur pics into the world, some kind of advertiser will sneak in and plaster the place with whiskey ads all over your bootleg cyberspace. Learn from my mistakes!

If anyone is looking for an admin/marketing role-- we have an opening: https://careers.analog.com/job/ANLGU...

It's at our HQ in the Boston area nominally but remote in the US is probably workable.

We have two positions open now:

Customer Success Manager - this position will work with customers of the products I work on in particular.

Software Engineer with Online Fraud Detection Experience - The vast majority of our codebase is in Perl and Go, though Perl is considered 'legacy' and we mostly use Go for anything completely new. FWIW, experience with either isn't a requirement, as learning the languages is the 'easy' part of the job.

Right now we are 100% remote, hiring anywhere in Canada, but only in certain states in the US: AK, CA, CO, FL, IN, LA, MA, MI, MN, MT, NY (excluding New York City and Yonkers), NC, NH, NV, OR, PA, SD, TX, VA, UT, WA, WV, WY.

I just want to confirm that you are hiring in California (Bay Area)? I would love to apply for that CSM job. Would you recommend going through you to apply? Or should I apply and then let you know so that I can use you as a reference?

Yeah, all of California is open.

Best to apply through the link above. I *think* there is something in the application that asks about where you heard about the job or some such, thought I might be mistaken. I'll send you a PM.

We have a new permanent position open for a Software Developer:
https://twohat.bamboohr.com/jobs/vie...

Primarily Python and Node.js development.

We are also looking for part time Language and Culture Specialists:
https://twohat.bamboohr.com/jobs/vie...

We are a completely remote company right now but have always been optionally remote.

I wanted to share that the EA role supporting the President of the Foundation/SVP of CSR externally at my partner's company has opened, so if you know of anyone who might be interested, feel free to share.

It’s definitely an admin support role in a dynamic environment, but for someone who is interested in CSR it might be a great fit. Ideally applications should try and be submitted this week! It does require someone to be based in the NYC area.

Let me know if you have any questions and PM me if you submit.

Arise thread! I’m currently an online student at Southern New Hampshire University and am hoping to find help with an internship. I am halfway through my degree and I think I’m at that point. While I haven’t reached out to my school just yet, I have gotten some offers sent to my college email but the offers just seemed sketchy. I am a business major with an HR specialization which is the closest my college has to what I want to do for a living: Conflict Resolution. I have completed almost all of the HR related classes. I realize I can ask my college for help but I wanted to check here first. I do have some disabilities under the ADA if that matters, and I am located outside of D.C. I have steady internet access. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Given your physical location and eventual need for reliable medical benefits, I would search usa jobs and see if a federal agency of some kind might interest you.

Federal employment has its...quirks, certainly. But it can also be really good if you find the right spot.

This is literally what I was looking for Mix, thanks! Even if I can’t find an internship here it will be useful once I graduate. I’ve always wanted a government job because of my health issues and being in the DELMARVA area. I really appreciate your help.

Yeah, I’m not going into this thinking it’s literally perfect, but I know what I need in a job, and I know my limitations. I figure a primarily desk position or secretary, something where I’m at a desk for long periods of time with low amounts of required lifting and physical exertion is kinda necessary, relatively decent pay, and healthcare is something that would match my conditions quite well. I had looked and found several positions that if I had my degree, would be ideal for my needs, is what I was getting at. Getting the pension as well would be icing on the cake.

HI all, my employer Czarnowski is looking for UI/UX Designers and digital Producers/Project Managers.

We're an event/tradeshow marketing company and are expanding into more web based solutions.

Resume question! I've been working remote since 2016. It's customary to put the location of your job in your resume -- for a job where the office is located in New York but I'm located in Detroit, on my resume should I put New York (Remote), or Detroit (Remote)? Or perhaps something like New York (Remote from Detroit)?

If you have your address on your resume (I don't really know why people still do this, but a lot do) then just put New York. The only way the city name is useful next to the job office is if the reader wants to understand if you worked in the main office, or if there's some reason the location is notable or something.

If you don't put your address on your resume... Actually I'd probably still do the same thing.

You can just put remote. You don't need to specify where you worked. If anything it may give them a reason to pass on you.
Employers really only need to know the company, position and length of employment. Anything else is letting them indulge their waffling tendencies.

Good points Fang, and putting Remote if you want to continue working remote lays a foundation that you're experienced with being productive remotely.

Thanks friends! I already have my hometown at the top, so just putting "Remote" under the job makes sense.

Time for a "Resume Q2_2021_final_final2" revision.

Unless you are applying for the last job of your life, no resume is final. Use 20210416-resume-company-position.

Why put a location at all? It is much more likely to harm than help you.

Any Unreal specialists out there?
