GOG.com What's good on there?

Pages

I bought Fallout 1&2 and I'm really getting into 1.Anyone else know of any good games on that site? They are priced right.
I'd like to check some of these games out. When they came out I played only console games and missed them.

Space bar!

(And no, not the 1997 adventure game, would be nice if it was there though!)

I'd say Freespace, FreeSpace 2, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Beyond Good and Evil, IL-2, and Shogo are my favorite games among the collection.

Beyond Good and Evil is a game I've heard about on podcast.I'll check that one out. Thanks!

All three of the original Fallouts are a downright shame to pass up.

Hey, Broken Sword 3 for $6. That's definitely worth the price, and it's not even that old of a game.

I've heard alot of people on podcast talk about the DS version of this game.I'm going to check this out as well.Thanks.

This is a stupid question, but I really am a noob.I like the podcast and the forum and would like to help out, as well as get some cool games, so as long as I click on the banner and then buy the site gets helped right?Do I have to do anything else?

Click on the banner and create an account. Everytime you buy something with that account, some small portion of the purchase is sent to GWJ. I.e. you only have to click the banner once, when you create your account. Someone correct me if I got that wrong.

Also, Broken Sword seconded, both of them. Shame they don't have the very first one, I really love that one. Recently I play the hell out of Flatout, the arcade racer/crasher. Bought it during promotion together with Screamer (which was a pure nostalgia buy, as I loved it back in the days).

If you like adventure games, also try Simon the Sorcerer I & II. And Beneath a Steel Sky, which has an unbeatable price of zero dollars.

Ok I did everything right then, thanks.Yeah, I've got Broken Sword 3 downloading right now. This is all new to me because I've never really played any PC games. The old Fallout game took me all day to get used to, but I've got it down now.Free game?I'm on it.Thanks again.
I'd also like to point out that I really like the extra stuff. They give you sountracks and everything.

By the way dude, I actually went to the site and searched for "Space Bar" and then realized that you were messing with me.Good one, sir.

Cole, you said you'd use the space bar.

Yeah, that ridiculous Space Bar point&click adventure game back from 90s!

A game I just noticed on there has been brought up in the forum thread about the FFXIII battle system: Septerra Core. If you like JRPGs, I remember it as being an inoffensive entry into the genre. I enjoyed it when I played at least, and it's really cheap, just like everything on there. Check it out for some slightly (if only a little) different JRPG action from a non Japanese developer.

As an aside, when looking at the RPG list on GOG, there is only one entry between Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader and Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator. Not particularly imaginative subtitles, are they?

I don't know, it had kind of a cute effect in my head. Like that little kid who is so breathlessly excited about something thattheytalklikethis.

Also, double post, but I noticed they have the first two Gothic games on there. I never played the first one, but I thoroughly enjoyed the second, despite all of its numerous and obvious flaws.

Here are my recommendations:

Beyond Good & Evil - An action-adventure game with some stealth sections (but pretty good ones). It has a unique style to it, and is thoroughly enjoyable.

Jagged Alliance 2 - A turn-based tactical game where you command a squad of mercenaries against a small nation. Widely considered as one of the best examples of the genre, if you enjoy it.

Freespace 2 - One of the last great space-sims. If you buy this game, take a look at Freespace Open, which improves the graphics and will allow you to play mod campaigns.

Gothic 2: Gold Edition - A great German RPG, includes the expansion. It is an open-world RPG, with action-based combat (if you use a melee weapon, it is all about timing the swings).

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - Simply the best 3D iteration of the Prince of Persia series, if you've played any Prince of Persia game, you know what to expect.

Stronghold - A real-time strategy castle-building game. There is an economic element, but it is pretty simple, the main goal being building castles and defending them.

Beneath A Steel Sky - If you like adventure games in the least, get this, it is one of the best. It's free!

Arx Fatalis - A first-person RPG, it has an interesting magic system where you trace symbols on the screen to cast spells. It was heavily influenced by games like Ultima Underworld.

The Guild: Gold Edition - A unique strategy/simulation game, you are a citizen of a late medieval city and it is up to you to make the most of it. Pick a trade (Blacksmith, Barkeep, Thief, ect.) and advance it, gain titles and privileges, run for office, get married and have children (which you play as after your character dies). It is really open-ended, and a game I keep going back to.

Far Cry - A pretty good FPS, not without its problems, but ten dollars is a reasonable price for it.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Giants: Citizen Kabuto.

I thought I was!
Wow, my punctation is really bad.
Wait a second, now I see what I'm doing...

Haha. I was excited to buy the old Fallout games. I type how one of those old 50's reporters with the press hat talks.

Megarace 1 & 2 - That is a game I loved to death back in the day.

Or Sacrifice.

A shorter listing would probably be of what's not worth buying. At their price, almost everything is worth at least trying.

Or Oddworld, both Abe's Oddysey and Exodus.

Oh man, I didn't realize they had The Guild. I love that game, and *somebody* borrowed my game disc and never returned it.

(Emphasis added for reasons unknown. It's not like they will ever read this.) =(

It's weird how much Sacrifice and Giants look alike -- they even shipped at very nearly the same time. Sacrifice is much better, IMO, much less buggy, but visually they're very similar.

I tried to play both Gothic 2 and The Guild, but Gothic does not run on 'Workstation 2008', giving me a Direct Music error. (this is Server2K8 with the desktop pack and a few bits of Vista copied back in -- it's basically Vista sans DRM.) And the Guild sequel was unplayably buggy. I really enjoyed the original, but the sequel as shipped from GOG only lasted me maybe an hour before I gave up on it as an unplayable mess.

Amen, although those look butt-ugly on modern 20" LCD's. The quirky atmosphere remains though.

Sacrifice is a great choice for action/strategy

I recently picked up Descent 1 and 2. There are some new mods out there to make the game use your 3D card and looks a whole lot better. Descent was an awesome shooter and I've had a blast playing it again.

GoG, for me mostly is about nostalgia. I will be honest, if you want to try a lot of these games, check out Gametap first.

However, they put Duke Nukem 3d on, and that is a must play.

For what GameTap charges now, it hardly makes sense anymore. For slightly more than a month of GameTap, you can buy two GoG games outright.

And with the annual fee now $80... man, that's a lot of Steam sales and $6 GoG games.

Mostly I just want to complain about GameTap's prices because I miss my account, but can't quite justify the cost.

Gametap is still accessible to selected regions only, so it's a no-go for us in the lesser countries. GoG, however, is regional (I like giving money to my Polish neighbors) and they charge in US dollars, unlike that traitor Steam (meaning GoG's still cheaper than cheap for us euro-using folk). Not to mention that GoG has some pretty modern games - Disciples Gold, Broken Sword - The Angel of Death, Flatout, Colin McCrae etc.

I think you all do. Ever since you have got into Euro zone, everytime when someone from my family goes shopping most of my local supermarket's customers are Slovaks (My home city is Nowy Sącz, some 40 km north of border)

Does it look bearable after 10 years? I still have it somewhere and would like to give it a shot.
