Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad (RO2)

Yea i'll definitely be playing BF3 over this. So the odds of me picking this up is slim. Sad because it looks like fun, but no point spending money on something you're not going to use.

That makes no sense on this forum. Brain can't comprehend.

Beta is probably going to be released next week, around the 30th. Also, looking around the Tripwire forums, I feel bad for the developers.

I've pre-ordered. I loved the first RO. As for a server, I'd be up for trying to start one, but from past experience this type of game won't have any longevity around here. I'd just be happy with a solid GWJ group to go pubbing with.

I'll check out any vids. I'm skipping BF3.

Sad because it looks..well it looks like it has good graphics, but no point in spending money on something you're not going to use. I wouldn't expect a GWJ server but as long as we can setup a RO2 GWJ group I think it'd be good enough. I watched some of the videos and I'm liking how your character appearance changes into a battle hardened vet with experience, the little details never hurt.

How much do game servers cost these days?

I\ll be picking this up for sure, but since I've already pre-ordered BF3, Deus Ex and am waiting for Skyrim/Rage/Torchlight 2 I may have to buy it around Christmas sale time on Steam. I don't really want to play the WW2 part of the game but there are 2 mods in the works by teams similar to TWI - one is Vietnam and it looks awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYuu1...

There is another mod iirc similar to this in the works but the name escapes me atm.

TB's second video ... with griefing from the devs while he plays. Absolutely brilliant.

Aw, poor biscuit had no chance. That's a pretty funny video.

I'm more of an "engineer" style player in TF 2. In other words, I suck at being the hardcore twitch champion, but I try to help my team by being smart and sneaky. I also need a game where I can get back in the action quickly because I'm going to die. A lot.

Do you guys think that there will be roles for me to play in Red Orchestra, or should I not even waste my time unless I plan to go hardcore? I'm tired of constantly getting ganked by my 12-year-old nephews in Black Ops, and one of my hardcore shooter friends somehow talked me into playing Arma 2 for an afternoon. Shudders

RO isn't anywhere near as twitchy as a CoD game. They're the twitchiest of mp shooters. Arma 2 is a bit closer to RO, but the weapons shoot faster (and farther).

I don't know if there's a place for you. Obviously playing the modes where you only have one life (until the next round) might not be up your alley, but playing RO is all about being smart and sneaky. There's really not much of an engineer type of role in RO, but the pace of combat is usually slower and more about placement than getting the jump on someone.

Is there a place for you? I'd hesitate to say yes or no.

Tank Driver!

There are tanks in RO2, right?

Yep.

Pre-ordered.

Anyone think this will be worth getting for single-player? I've really enjoyed some of the previews I've seen (haven't watched the most recent WTFs), but the enemy AI has looked a bit sketchy.

If you buy it then plan to play multiplayer. I agree that none of the previews really show what appears to be an intelligent AI. I really wouldn't expect it either. No one really knows until the beta starts, but how many non-linear FPS really have intelligent AI these days? Nothing really matches playing people and when it's a 1:1 game like RO instead of a shoot em up and mow em all down like CoD singleplayer (when the AI just has to die).

Well, and we also have no idea if the sp will be any good at all. It isn't something they really bothered with in the first game.

Last I looked at the Steam page, on the right side where it lists feature like Controller enabled and Multiplayer, it didn't even list Single player.

They've developed a sp campaign for this, but it's a mp focused game for sure.

I wonder, if I buy RO2 for myself as a gift, if I could then trade the tf2 hattes to a GWJer that plays tf2...

I believe that the person you gift the game to will get the hattes.

Holy. Crap. What the hell is wrong with the people on their forums? It's a shame that a developer who caters to their community has such a disgusting community. The sense of entitlement there is absurd.

Show me a gaming forum or some form of community that doesn't have entitlement issues.

A good 25 minutes of mp gameplay.

Saw a nice preview on Armchair General

I'm starting to lean towards pre-ordering this.

seeing the bleeding mechanic has me rethinking about passing this up.

If you pre-ordered the deluxe edition, the early beta begins tomorrow. At least that is the plan, I wouldn't be shocked if Tripwire pushes it back at the last minute.

They are starting out with 3 maps, 3 game types, and will support 16, 32, & 64 player servers.

I was thinking about putting together a Steam group, though I don't know how many people are in the early beta. Of course the most important thing is the group image, but I couldn't decide if Stan would be a Nazi or a Soviet. So how about both.

I approve of the pic since we all get to be Soviets and Nazis.
