Brutal Legend Catch All

Am I the only one who thinks Tim Schafer is starting to look more and more like a Tim Schafer character?

Hey, if you spent your entire creative life making games nobody buys, you'ld probably give up trying to look impressive too.

Brutal Legend demo coming Sept 17

"We just couldn't wait," Double Fine president Tim Schafer said in a press reelase. "Villagers have surrounded our offices with torches, demanding the game. So we're releasing a demo and hope that this taste of metal will keep the mob at bay until Brütal Legend comes out this Rocktober."

Two reasons to buy Brutal Legend:

I have my preorder demo code.

The fine print says it goes live on Sept 17th, at 11pm PST.

WTF?!

It also goes on to say that premature redemption may prevent you from receiving access to the demo. Don't try early, or you're boned!

Demo... is it only available for those who pre-ordered or will it be for everyone?

Due to spoiler reasons, I didn't watch past the first minute since I already know I'm getting this game, but for anyone who's still on the fence, here you go. The first 5 minutes of the game are revealed in this Intro trailer:

So.... uh.... sold!

Just like an XBL Gold membership, pre-ordering gets you early access. It will be available to everyone next week (23rd, if I remember correctly).

...

...:| Oh well, 23rd it is. Although I got to say, I still don't get the logic behind pre-order = demo!

So, the demo is the very beginning of the game. If you've seen the first developer commentary movie, you've seen the demo. It's great. Control is a little loose, but playing it has only re-enforced my decision to pick this up on day one.

Oh, and the menu screens are classic.

I wish there was more!

This was already on my list, but after watching Tyrian play through the demo I'm now sad I have to wait nearly a month.

This is a wild guess but, is that Meat Loaf?

It looks a bit like Kyle Gass to me.

Double post

Oh yeah.

Giant Bomb has a 30 min quick look up, in which they play through the demo. I can't wait.

Just watched that as well - I can't believe I had reservations about whether it would be laugh out loud funny or not (spoiler : it is ) Yet another game at the top of the must buy list

It's Kage! That's it, Thirteenth, you're no longer allowed to play Brutal Legend. Hey, I don't make the rules. That's just how it is.

Okay, I stopped about five minutes in because I'm already buying the game and want to enjoy it as spoiler-free as possible, but any lingering doubts I had about this game in terms of being just as entertaining as anything else Tim Schafer had a hand in was just thrown out the window. There's more creativity in that menu screen then the entirety of some games I waste my money on these days.

Looks awesome, pains me that this game comes out the same day as Uncharted 2 though

Why? Who needs Uncharted 2 when you've got Brutal Legend? I mean, until you finish Brutal Legend. Then Uncharted 2 would be pretty sweet.

Spoiler:

Roadies got huge balls.

Been following this, been checking out gameplay trailers and the website (the Giant Bomb run through of the demo is great), and I simply assumed this would be on the PC as well. I missed that whole console-exclusive aspect of it. That really sucks. I saw a quote from to the effect of this is an action game, thus is meant to be for console play. Does this mean there are no action titles on the PC?

Not meant to be a PC rant, just really disappointed I won't be able to play this game anytime soon.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised by that too, but fortunately, I have access to the consoles. It's a bummer to not have it on PC, though.

I did the Gamestop preorder and I've been fooling around with the demo. I'm very impressed with the control system. It's very fluid and FAST, it does exactly what you want as quickly as you want it to.

I've been struggling with Red Faction for a week or so, and I find its control system on the 360 gamepad to be pretty annoying. It's slow and cumbersome, and I constantly feel like I'm struggling against the game to get it to do what I want.

Brutal Legend is just a delight in comparison, fluid, smooth, and sensible. The buttons do the right stuff. It's such a simple thing, really -- X is attack, square is alternate attack (stun with the guitar), circle is block. I don't know what triangle is yet. And there's at least one combo of X, square, X that stuns a guy, lifts him into the air, and then knocks him halfway to Kansas after you do a big baseball-style windup. Good fun.

I think this thing is going to be absolutely phenomenal, maybe better than Batman.

It won't be released on the PC? That's just silly. What's the difference between an XBox 360 and a PC with an XBox 360 controller?

People buy Xbox 360 games.

Thank goodness the conversation has been steered back in this thread to how horrible it is that a PC version hasn't been announced. After going a full page without it, I was starting to get worried.

Anyways, I can't believe how slim things have gotten me this holiday season. This and Dragon Age are the only two titles I still have pre-ordered that come out this year, with everything else being a "maybe" at best right now. Not complaining as my backlog is humongous and I'm sure that money will be spent after the new year. It just feels weird to me since about this time over the past three years had me with a dozen titles going. I never would have imagined that in 2007 that right now I would only have two games pre-ordered. Mind you, I never would have imagined them both being EA titles either.

I have no idea how much it costs to port them to PC, but it's hard to believe the sales wouldn't negate any cost that the port would take up.

Also, here are the quotes from a Eurogamer article, so I guess it could happen at some time:

Gurrah asks: I'll keep it short: No PC version, why? I'm sad.

Tim Schafer: Well it's really an action game, that when you play it you'll see that it was meant to be on a console.

My question is, 'Why all the hate for consoles?' If you hate consoles, that means you hate Katamari Damacy, Okami, ICO, and you are in fact a bad person. A bad person who should send all their hate mail to Eurogamer and not to me.

Super Moderating Hero: Cheeky! Will there ever be a PC version? Is there hope?

Tim Schafer: We are really focused on the Xbox 360 and PS3 version right now.

Also, Kuddles-- sorry that I just found out there wasn't going to be a PC release (I can't appologize for Switch and Complex, tho, who also just seemed to find this out). Hopefully I'll find out information in a more timely manner in the future.
