X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Project

For those of you with some interest in X-Wing Alliance, go check out www.xwaupgrade.com . The graphical upgrade is AMAZING!

There's also the TIE Fighter Total Conversion, http://www.tftc.gaylenol.com/ , which imported all of the missions and sound files and stuff from TIE Fighter, so you get TF in the XWA engine. Of course, if you go the other way, it's possible to import the XWAUP models into TIE Fighter, but that's not quite as easy.

Just thought I'd mention this here, let me know if any questions.

Wow. Now that takes me back - I always preferred XWA to XvT, even though XvT was still the preferred multiplayer game back when I logged hours for TFA. (What was that, '98? Oh, man.) I think I still have that Logitech Wingman around here somewhere too...

At any rate, it's nice to see somebody following up with an upgrade, since they haven't released a new X-Wing game since.

That's very cool, but is there any way to download them as a pack?

X-Wing Alliance was my first space flight sim and will always hold a special place in my heart! Now to see if I can find the CDs and a joystick...

I assume you need the original XWA game.

WOW, I hadn't heard of this and I'm excited. The X-Wing/Tie Fighter series is amazing and I still have my X-Wing Alliance discs. Thanks for passing this on!

Awesome, I have this game and would love to revisit it with improved ships and all, I would need to get a new joystick though, the one I had is no longer pluggable to a modern computer...geez, progress.

Good question! Go to http://www.darksaber.pnma.co.uk/ , in the menu on the left click on Craft Packs, then select the Ultimate Craft Pack. That adds most XWAUP craft, the readme lists which ones it doesn't.

EDIT 05/05/2009: New URL.

If they had a good lobby system and allow people to play scenarios instead of just skirmishes with other players, I would definitely be interested.

Your best bet is to post on the forum and let people know you're interested.

The TF Conversion link doesn't work.

Anyone have a working URL? Thanks.

Re-installed SW X-Wing Alliance with the mods.

So I streamed the TIE Fighter Total Conversion for a couple of hours today and I was near tears with how good this is. Totally verklempt. They’ve done a MASTERFUL job of recapturing the magic from the original game. I’m just floored.

Next I have to try setting up my full HOTAS and VR.

Pretty sure my conversions for battles 1-7 may have ended up in that TFTC. I was working on that on my own back when, tweaking balance and ships for the first 2 battles before I ran out of steam. Did some work on battle 7 too, trying to get the missions with Vader right. I converted all the files from tie to XWA format, just only played and balanced less than half because it was so tedious.

It's really tough the way capital ship AI changed from XW/TF to XWA. Their turbo lasers got too good at shooting things down. So I had a beast of a time making some missions completable without cheese.

Then someone on XWAU forums was talking about TF and I sent them all my files. Then a bit later, TFTC is out.

Anyway, hey Crespin, if you're still around. I was manofstele on XWAU forums. Never made any models but tested a ton of stuff, and made a few missions. Those were some good times.

You should visit their Discord and say hello.
