"Late 20th Century"?

Or go with "fin de siècle" and leave 'em confused.

I'd say tail end of early.

90, 91, 92 are definitely the early 90s

94, 95, 96 are definitely the mid 90s

97, 98, 99 are definitely the late 90s

93 is no man’s land

I would say mid.

If you're 43 years old, are you early 40s or mid 40s?

I *am* 43 and I don’t know!

Ha! As I typed that, I was all "I wonder if Legion actually IS 43?"

I'm 63 and I'm still in my mid 40s.

I say this because it's symmetrical

1990
1991
1992

1993
1994
1995
1996

1997
1998
1999

Trust me, I'm 44. Just get used to saying mid.

I just turned 47 and refuse to be 'late'.

I was browsing through my town's recreation guide and realized that I qualify for all the recreation programs for seniors in less that 3 years.

Spoiler:

I'm 47. So apparently ancient?

Time to stretch your shuffleboard muscles!

Somebody has to have a Steam/Gamertag/PSNaccount named Wesley Snipes. I'm to lazy to check, but there has to be! They've gotta be up to xXW3sl3y420Snip3sXx by now.

When I was like 6-10, we had shuffleboard courts at the hotel where we went for a week or so in the Summer. I got really good at it, and I think that's where my love of Bocce and Curling and Petanque and similar games comes from.

I smoked a lot of retirees, too.

You realize that smoking retirees is only legal in 24 states right now. When you were a kid, it was illegal. And shame on your parents for letting you smoke as a child!

There is no Sanctuary!

Years back my primary physician was talking about something or other because I was in my mid-40s and I protested, saying that I was only 42. He found my protesting quite funny.

As long as somebody is around to bury me.

Anyone watching KAOS, what the hell is up with

Spoiler:

Poseidon drowning that woman in episode 3? Is it just supposed to be showcasing his lack of caring for human life or was there some reason for it in ancient myths?

Spoiler:

My take is that it was to demonstrate that Poseidon doesn't care about humans any more than Zeus does, so the audience will more plainly see that him trying to protect Krete from Zeus's wrath was more about ego (it's *his* city) than compassion for humankind.

I have a 2019 Kia that's been sitting idle on my driveway for the past ~12 months. It has about a half-tank of gas in it (no stabilizer), and I don't remember when the last oil change was. How screwed am I, and what should I do to minimize potential damage as I get it road-ready? I'm comfortable filling reservoirs of stuff on my own, but not removing/changing fluids.

I was planning to drive it to a local mechanic a couple of miles away, but I'm concerned that the gas may have gone bad over the past year (is that even still a modern problem?), or that the oil may not be in all the right places or whatever. My intention would be for the mechanic to change the oil and potentially siphon out the gas tank so I could replace it will a full tank.

You are at the very least going to want to check the battery and tires, top off your fluids, remove the old gas and replace it with new gas, and function test for idle in your driveway before taking it anywhere. You definitely don't want waterlogged gas going through your engine. That should get you to your mechanic who will probably, at that point, recommend at least a radiator flush, oil and filter change, and a change of tires (if you don't have serious flat spots and UV damage on them after a year in the same spot, I would be surprised). Make sure he tests the electrical system as water and rodent damage can be a thing depending on where it was kept.

First up, turn the ignition one click to see if the battery's not dead. If it is, that's your first problem to solve.

Everything from here on is what I'd do, and I'm so far from an expert, you should take my advice with plenty of salt.

That said, I'd top up the gas tank with fresh gas, check the oil level and top up with fresh oil if there's space for some (being careful not to overfill), then see if it starts.

If it starts, let it idle for a good while, like a full 10 minutes, before you apply any accelerator or go drive. You want to let the engine and oil warm up before you put any additional stress on the engine. Then baby it - your oil is likely to be horrible, so will do a terrible job of lubricating the engine. Your brakes will be shit the first couple times you touch them (cos rust and other accumulated filth on the brake discs/pads that will be cleaned off as you brake), so brake way early. Keep the revs low and drive it directly to wherever you're taking it for an oil change. Have them also check the state of the rest of your fluids - transmission fluid and/or brake fluids may need replacing too, and engine air and oil filters and cabin air filters will likely need replacing too.

Basically assume anything consumable on the car has now been consumed and will need replacing.

Plan B - invent a time machine, and go run the car every couple of months in the previous year. Might be cheaper.

Thanks, guys - appreciate the quick feedback!

Does anyone else use their Favorite threads page so exclusively that when they occasionally browse the full forums, they're like, "what the hell is all this?"

I use recent activity exclusively. There’s a favorites?

Yep. Hit the little star in the thread title and it will zip into your Favorites. then select the star at the very top of the screen to go to them.

Assuming you don't have the skills to do basic maintenance on the car (which is me btw) I'd call a mobile mechanic to do all that preliminary stuff. Better a simple minor service to achieve basic roadworthy status than to roll the dice.

But yeah your battery is probably dead. Not too hard to change a car battery. I can do that much!

AFFIRMATIVE

I have Favorites, Recent, and My Recent bookmarked in that order, and I hardly ever click the second two.
