Would putting it in the ground help?
It could. I would find a shadier area for it with wetish ground and see how it does.
I say burn it, take a picture of it burning, say it's been doing this for years, sell it on eBay for thousands of dollars.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Nah, just rehydrate the pod.

Days after the original post, I've got a better version:
"Hello ITree, have you tried turning it on and off again?"
I am looking for a piece of entertainment.
I think it was by Stephen King, and I remember seeing it on TV back in the 80s.
It takes place on a train, and a couple somehow gets sent to the future on the train, and they see people setting up things for the future. People move through "scenes", and each train car is an instant in time. When you misplace something, look for it, and then it is there and "I swore I already looked there", it is because these beings forgot to put it there.

Apart from the train, that sounds like the Twilight Zone episode "A Matter of Minutes" from 1985. Full plot details here. A couple wake up and find themselves between moments in time, and meet the maintenance crew that dismantles the world and reassembles it for every minute. The bit about finding misplaced items is in there. The crew foreman tries to keep them prisoner but they escape back to normal time.
It's based on a story by Theodore Sturgeon, not Stephen King. You may be getting it mixed up with King's "The Langoliers", which also has people stuck between moments of time but otherwise has nothing in common with your description. There was no train in either story (the people in "The Langoliers" were on a plane).
That's it!!
I'm looking into buying a slow cooker / crock pot, but have no clue what I'm doing
On the one hand, I like my appliances to be as simple as possible. A well-built slow cooker can last decades probably, adding complexity only increases risk of failure.
On the other hand, I really like the functions of this baby As long as complexity also means functionality, it's cool! I still miss the temperature sensor in my regular oven, it broke years ago.
Otherwise, which brands are the most reliable? Any good recipe books etc. you would recommend?

The only things I make in a crock pot are mulled cider and chili. For either, all I need it to do is maintain a temp over time, so no bells and whistles necessary.
Yeah, a crockpot SHOULD be cheap because it's very very simple. The electronics are probably going to be the first thing to fail on one, so getting one with minimal bleeps and bloops isn't a bad idea.
On the other hand.....an Instant Pot is kinda cool......
Every time I am surrounded by dense fog in a car or plane, I muse that I am in The Langoliers.
I live in the SF bay area so fog shenanigans happen quite frequently.

We tend to use our Instant Pot a lot more than our crockpot since we got it.
I've got a Hamilton Beach 6-quart slow cooker that I think is this one or something very similar.
You tell it whether you want it to cook on Low or High, you set the time, and that's it. When the time is up, it switches to Warm. I like that feature because I sometimes make noodle dishes in which the noodles would turn to glue if they cooked too long.
I also like the little lid clips, makes it handy to take to potlucks and such.
Had it for at least ten years, it's been a real workhorse.

I have both, but never use the instant pot as a slow cooker even though it's capable of it.

How does one go about 'shorting' a stock? Trump has a lot of his Truth stocks, and he is absolutely going to dump it as soon as he can. When he does, the price should plummet, so I'd love to make some bank off of it, but I don't know how to 'stock market'.

1: Do a lot of googling about brokerage accounts.
2: Open a brokerage account
3: .....
4: PROFIT?
Yeah, you need access to a brokerage account that lets you do it. I use TastyTrade, which is pretty weird and has a crazy dense UI, but their requirements for starting are pretty low compared to some of the others.
On the other hand, people have been playing Trump's stock's ups and downs for months, your chances of making significant bank playing along without crazy algorithmic stuff backing you up is probably not great.
Just do what I did and put it all into the fund that follows whatever Nancy Pelosi insider trades dutifully reports and you'll do just as well.
Rick makes an excellent point - it's already a 100% meme-stock. If you thought playing with Gamestop stock the last couple of years sounded like a fool's errand, you should walk away from Truth Social.
If it were 3 months ago I would have told you to do NVidia instead if you really wanted to play a numbers-go-up rocket...
But I think public sentiment has caught up to AI enough that they're gonna wallow in volatility for a while, unless the tech sector can figure out another grift -- I mean use case -- that needs a lot of vector math like blockchain, NFTs, and LLMs. If not this quarter than sometime in the next few.
I have some friends still playing them though, thinking the datacenter buildouts are gonna keep going for a while. I guess we'll find out who's right soon enough...
Shorting of Truth Social is already going on enough that the parent company went whining to congress. And that was back in April.
Truth Social owner asks Congress to investigate ‘potential manipulation’ of share price

NANC is only really doing so well this year because of how heavy it is in NVIDIA.
I bought in a little in both NANC and KRUZ when they were created. I’ve yet to see NANC actually do anything that seemed “insider-y”, mostly it’s just “be heavier in the obvious mega stocks than a total market fund”.
I noticed something last night while watching Aliens. Early on, when the Sulaco gets to LV-426, Ripley asks the Sergeant if there’s anything she can do, then they do the little bit where she gets in the loader and picks up a big box. Asks the Sergeant where he wants it and he says “Bay 12 please!”
I remembered there was some game developer called Bay 12 Games. Looked it up, it’s the Dwarf Fortress guys. I wonder if that is the origin of their company name?
Couldn’t find an answer after a bit of searching so I gave up. Interesting coincidence at least.
The DF devs definitely said it was in some interview a long time ago.
Sweet!
I have a question/request for a scavenger hunt. I've been looking for this https://madmusic.com/song_details.as... song Plain White Rapper by Ross Wilson everywhere online and off. Has anybody ever heard this, heard of it, seen this or, dare I ask.. have an audio version of this ? It's been bugging me for a long time, pre-web days, when my cassette of Dr Demento's show was eaten by an old tape player.
Thanks in advance for your patience and google-fu abilities.
