NPR? AP? Reuters? AFP? All of them use reporters or stringers who are from various parts of Africa.

I'm thinking of media local to African countries that report in English, the equivalent of a ProPublica, if you will. NPR/AP/Reuters/AFP are still Western, even if relatively less biased than a FOX news/MSNBC type.

Can anytime recommend trustworthy sources of news coverage in African countries? Specifically looking for news about impact of Chinese investments in the region that isn't colored by western interests.

Doesn't Al Jazeera look into news like that? You know, the news the US seems to ignore?

good call! I took a quick look and not seeing much about China specifically, but I'll dig deeper. Would still like to find some homegrown journalism from the region though.

If you find something please share. You’ve got me curious now, and not just about China investing. There are doubtless many stories the western media doesn’t bother with.

So in the Africa is not a country, most of the countries in Africa which were British colonies will have English language newspapers. The one I am aware of is The Guardian (of Nigeria) due to a seeing it in the foreign newspapers section of WH Smith’s and being a little confused. According to my Nigerian friend it modelled itself on the U.K.
Guardian with a similar Liberal and educated middle class (in the U.K. senses) bias.

In that case, for Asia, South China Morning Post may be your jam.

Anyone do solo rpgs? What do you think are some good self contained ones. I mean DnD book types not videogames. I just ordered three based on nothing but amazon reviews. The White Box, Alone Against Fear and Paper Dungeon Mazes.

I heard about this a long time ago but dropped the idea because I thought it was kind of silly. I could just play a rpg videogame. I still kind of feel that way but kind of still interested in this silliness.

Gloomhaven is supposed to be decent solo.

Star Trek Adventures Captain's Log (Solo Adventures)

Wrong topic… nothing to see here

Oh yeah, I have that game on epic and as a add on to whatever that tabletop system is on steam.

Considered this one but bulked at the price. Adding it to my list though. Oh and it looks like they have a lower decks version.

It's got a huge amount of content. I still don't quite understand how the system works...

Of those I've tried, I got the most out of Colostle and Thousand Year Old Vampire.

Thousand Year Old Vampire.

That's the one. Couldn't think of the name earlier. But it was recommended here a while back and there was a giveaway or "pay what you want" or something. I got it for free or a dollar maybe? Seemed pretty fun

looks fun.

I had to order the fancy Vampire book! I... Conceptually, I'm stunned. Just, literally, already a bit nervous about what this game is going to do to me. Journaling a vampire? Through deep time?

Damn... What an audacious idea, and by all accounts, amazingly well done.

I also really want to try the Apollo 47 one, but I'd have to get several of you reprobates on Zoom, and I dunno, that might not happen. Still I covet the physical manuals; we had RACKS of them when I worked at NASA... Many of them out of date but still occasionally relevant to old equipment that people might need once a decade.

If this is one universe, where are the Halloween-themed movies in between where she "disposes" of the previous year's suitor?

I would settle for 4th of July movies where they die in freak fireworks accidents

That must exist in a Final Destination movie.

Maybe an old timer can help me with this...

I seem to remember there was a way to specify the width and height of a youtube embed in the GWJ youtube tag. Like "youtube=640x480" in the tag or something like that. Anyone else remember this?

Code for 480p: vq=large

Okay, that's cool, but I think that just specifies the quality, and I'm trying to change the aspect ratio. The default iframe generated by the site is 16:9, and I want to specify a 4:3 aspect ratio for a specific video.

Well I know how to do it with an image.

\[img=100x100\]https://i.imgur.com/UFAzbDA.jpeg\[/img\]

But that doesn't work with a video.

It *used* to be possible, but maybe it got removed. Dunno. I'll keep searching. Google has not been helpful, or I'm just not finding the magic words. If I could look at all my old posts, I know there were some where I used it.

Why can't you look at your old posts?

They're not all collected in one place?

Is there a feature I don't know about?

It goes back pretty darn far...

I see "recent activity," but that just shows the threads you've posted in, not the individual posts collected together. Would be pretty tedious to try to hunt down your posts in each thread.
