I'm in B.C. now and I want to hang out with goodjers and peoples. Boardgames and beers is what I'm talking about. Anybody game for a future get-together? I would also be up for killing myself and my super-cool wife skiing.

Welcome!

I'd be up for boardgames and beers - I'll take a pass on skiing (but would totally say yes to tubing, or snoeshowing).

If you're coming into Vancouver, you and the missus are welcome to crash with me in North Van - it's only a pull out couch, but it's queen sized and pretty comfy. Plus, I'm a bus ride from Grouse, Seymour, and Cypress for various snow-related fun. If we wanted to do a big Goodjer get-together with games, maybe we could all chip and rent the hall at the Fraternal Order of Eagles or something? I could ask what that would cost if there is enough interest. I've seen other gaming groups set up there for Magic and boardgames.

That sounds great. How big a place you got? Can we cram more Goodjers and Goodjer-Friends inside? And this would have to be in the future. Right now we are broke as hell. Apparently it costs money to move to BC. Who knew?

I don't think the Ravems are playing today.

Your best shot is a hot start and the Ravens trailing 7-14 after 1 quarter. You have fairly poor squares.

Oh well, hoping for that hot start then.

They were a rock band in the '60s-'70s. They're not playing either.

Now don't get fooled again.

I am wondering if Mike has an update?

What's the best protector for a new Ipad? We have an 8 month old so he's going to grab it and it's going to get dropped I'm sure. The Otterbox Defender looks like it'll do the job, but it's just so.... huge.

Wife got this for the iPad she got for Christmas. She is a clumsy girl (no depth perception), so wanted something that prioritizes protection over sleekness.

Thing is armored, I'm telling you. Yes, it's waaaay bulkier than a naked iPad, but better a working fat iPad than a broken sleek one.

Otterbox has gotten sleaker, in the same way Aston Martin has gotten lighter I suppose.

If you want your iPad protected, but are still worried about looks, buy the extended warranty. Any cover other than otterboxes are largely cosmetic, or a way for Best Buy or Verizon to get a few extra bucks out of someone.

I'm not worried so much about looks as I am being able to hold it for a period of time without my hand giving out.

We did get the extended warranty actually, but I suppose I am a little worried about looks. The worry is the scratches and dents, which the warranty doesn't cover (it covers two separate incidents, now normal wear and tear), and a small ding or scratch here and there I doubt would cover an incident. The warranty was mostly for if it falls and the glass shatters, I don't have to buy a new one.

Those Griffin cases look pretty similar to the Otterbox, I'll check them out, thanks Jonman and KingGorilla!

You could also put the iPad out of reach. I have concern for my friends' possessions. They are expecting a baby, but before that their dogs got into everything-any magazine lying around, remote controls, wii controllers. They still keep potpourri around, and have gone through 4 TV remotes. I anticipate a home of shattered glass and torn curtains when the kid starts moving about.

I am assuming you figured out how to keep the knives in the kitchen away from him/her.

I do have a question though. Gmail lets me block e-mails with certain keywords. Is there an analog for facebook? I woke up with this line of updates about the sport ball that I did not watch. And as much as I like college hoops, I prefer to see the games over a facebook status meme.

These cases don't look any cooler but they have a video where they drop one from a weather balloon and the iPad easily survived. They have another video of a bowling ball being dropped on it and the iPad surviving.

KingGorilla wrote:

He's not walking yet. I don't really get where asking about knives comes into play though. But thanks for the concern.

And yes, the iPad isn't going to be his toy, but there are still a bunch of great baby games I'd like him to be able to use with our supervision, so it's going to be around him sometimes.

Oh, I thought your concern was more about baby proofing your expensive, and shiny things than being able to let him play around with it. Hence the example of my friends who like to leave things lying about on coffee tables, or on the floor.

Yeah, my wife is pretty safety conscious, only thing laying around the floors these days it toys...

So yes to both, baby proofing but allowing him to use it sometimes as well. We can try to keep it out of reach, but it's used on the couch in front of the TV, and once in a while I'm sure it will be left on or near that area. I'm sure accidents will happen.

I haven't used it myself, but you could give the SocialFixer browser addon a look (as long as you don't use Internet Explorer).

It's not very big, but if someone was OK with sleeping on the floor, we could maybe put another person up overnight. Unless of course we're all going to get super cozy and cuddle up in a big Goodjer pile or something.

Failing that, there are other Vancouver Goodjers you could probably bat your eyelashes at for a place to crash and/or play games at. I'm good with cramming people in here for games if everyone is OK with pulling up a bit of floor to sit at my fairly large coffee table.

How are you settling in up there other than being broke as hell? Anything I could do to help?

Big fat bags O-Cash would help. Seriously, I'm cool with being broke for now. It's really curbing into my Steam habit though. I've taken to downloading free indie games to keep my Ooo-Shiny fix satisfied.

I'll keep ya posted on how my finances are and when I can expect to venture out. Don't let me stop you from having hangouts yourself though!

This eBay auction is very tempting, considering it's one of my favorite anime and I can't seem to find it anywhere else for less than $50. My question being... should I order it when I get my next check (that being tomorrow), or is there a site that might have it cheaper? I've been loathe to purchase anything via eBay due to potential bootlegging...

Anyone told you about the Free Indie Games blog yet?

Switchbreak has challenged me to design a JRPG based around power ballads. Since I'm procrastinating on submitting my Call for Writers article, I thought I'd give it a shot. But there's a catch: I don't listen to power ballads, so I don't even know where to start. What are some popular power ballads and/or artists I can draw inspiration from?

They're Youtube links; you've probably got an adblocker or something preventing you from seeing them.
