I used yelp in combination with actually going to the shops and meeting the folks. Turned out quite well.

Fair enough.

I want a good ypbpr convert/upscaler? I want to go back and finish some old games.

At the end of this year, I am celebrating with 2 tattoos on either bicep or fore arm, simple text in Poor Richard block text, not terribly expensive.

I understand the sentiment, but I feel like I should at least try to talk you out of the 313 tattoo.

Gah! The stitches would drop off the needles if you held them like that! Also those are not circular or double pointed needles! Not only that, but someone has horrid tension control, the guage on those stitches is all over the place.

Got a tax related question. Late in 2012 my now ex-wife and I divorced. We had a house which was sold and the profits split evenly between us. As tax season is coming soon, I'm wondering weather I should file my taxes individually or jointly with my ex-wife one last time? I would rather file separate so as to avoid dealing with splitting any return we may get or who would pay should we owe. Thoughts?

Can't you run the numbers both ways, thereby figuring out how much it will cost you to file seperate vs married? That way you have a pricetag for the hassle of filing married.

And, without knowing anything about the state of your relationship with your ex-wife, why not see if she has an opinion on this too, as it's going to affect her just as much as you?

Does Pax Seattle (Prime) smell? I ask this question because I've read several webcomics over the years talking about the smell of the masses at these types of conventions. I'm considering going to PAX when I'm living in BC.

She's in the loop, I just want to know if there is a general way of doing this one way or the other. Just really seeking information at the moment.

It smells about as much as any collection of that number of people do, in my experience.

Talking to some of the long time Enforcers, there were some early PAX's that reeked. It's why "Take a Shower every day and use deodourant" is on the list of rules that gets sent out with every pass.

The long and short of it is that some people have questionable personal hygene, and at a convention that numbers in the tens of thousands, some of those people are going to be there.

Huh. OK. Thanks for the info. I'm just a rural/bushman/live-in-sticks kind of guy so I'm not accustomed to urban-big-crowd-smells. I don't find them off-putting. I just wanna know ahead of time. That said I will be packing my flamethrower.

The rule is mostly a joke. But I was there for that last year at Meyedenbaur, and yeah..... When you cram 10,000 people in that space it got interesting at times.

However, since we moved to the new venue with it's much bigger spaces and the accompanying proper ventiliation I've never noticed more than a problem with a specific person. There is no "crowd miasma" at all; just the very occasional scattered individuals.

I didn't spend a lot of time at PAX last year but while I was there I didn't notice a problem at all.

Strangeblades, the bushmen tend to be the stinkiest.

I disagree. Politely of course. We smell like bush. Like woods. Like a really old car air freshener.

Last I heard, that's a bear's toilet.

Have you ever smelled a bear's toilet? We should all be so lucky to smell like a bear's toilet. Hmph.

Seriously I don't know why Right Guard/Axe/Old Spice don't hand out samples at these kind of things. At an old job I had I sat next to one of those stay up playing EverQuest 2/WoW/Guild Wars until 3 am every night and shower once a week type of people who give the rest of us gaming enthusiasts a bad name and some days I wish I had something to spray him down with.

They have little travel sizes that would suffice, right?

They did this several years ago. It didn't solve anything and made new problems. If I remember correctly, it was Axe who did it.

People used them on each other as a sort of impromptu weapon and several people got sick. There are people who are allergic to these things. And the fog of Axe was really bad for asthmatics and others with breathing problems.

Never underestimate the ability of a large crowd of humans to turn something that seems good into an unforseen bad.

I have a habit/tick I'd like to lose. I bite/chew on my fingernails alot. I don't bite them off, that was kid me, but I do "play" with them more than is healthy. Tips? I was thinking something household that doesn't leave residue, or smell, just tastes really off-putting.

Finger -> Butt?

I used do that too. I found that by trimming them twice a week keeps them short enough that if I try to pick at them they'll be too sensitive to do so.

Fingers and thumbs -> Butt?

Winner!
