Castle Catch All.

Tonight!

I'm so ready!

Going to rewatch the finale here in a couple hours.

WORF!

OK come on that's not a spoiler, Michael Dorn's name was in the credits.

Otherwise... whoa.

Brain racing. Good stuff. Might watch again and post later.

Fav show! Can't wait. Love the interaction between Castle and Beckett. But rest of the cast are great too!

Tomorrow

Pretty sweet episode!

We really liked the episode too, but this new captain dynamic is going to get old after about 10 minutes. I don't watch Castle to get frustrated (in that sense), and I found myself getting frustrated quite a bit by what they're letting her bring to the show.

What really bothers me is that she apparently has been made to live in a vacuum. She comes in and "cleans out" the rift-raft, but apparently does so with no knowledge of how this team has operated the past several years? I know it's a show, but they've introduced this hard nose character who has this "we'll do it my way" attitude, but no knowledge that this team she's so keen on breaking up saved the city from a dirty bomb, stopped serial killers, solved countless murders... I just disturbs the entire balance of existence for the world these character's live in.

I'm not going to like putting up with her "bad cop" routine every Monday night.

Hopefully she won't be in every episode. It's not like the previous captain did much most of the time, other than try to look soulful or say "go get 'em!" now and then. She's already proved to me that she's a better actor, at least. I do hope that they find a way to make her more than one note.

I wonder if the palate of this first episode is going to carry over. Very murky and full of sharp shadows. Even Castle's apartment was dark. Looking at the preview for next week's episode, I'm guessing it's as light as the next storyline.

I thought this episode was appropriately dark. And I was pleased to see the preview indicate that the show will be humping straight back into the banter we all love.

Not a fan of the new boss, but I'm guessing the writers have a plan. Right now she doesn't seem to be a very fun foil, though.

I also didn't like the new boss. I think things would have been more interesting with either an old friend of Montgomery's or someone who is one of the shadowy bad guys.

I hope this season isn't all about Castle

Spoiler:

withholding information from Beckett, which I think is a pretty weak way to engineer another season of one-episode murders where the plot doesn't advance. Now, if they made it more explicit that Castle is only doing that temporarily because he's freaked about Beckett's obvious post-traumatic stress disorder, then I can handle that, and I think showing him working on the case by himself at the end was a good indication that might be what's up. That said, his talk with his family made it sound like he was protecting Beckett forever, PTSD or not, which I felt undermined their partnership. What I'm hoping is that he merely told his family that because he doesn't want anyone at all to know that he's continuing to work on the case.

A full season of the murder of the week with a 10-second glimpse of Castle working on Mrs. Beckett's murder does not sound good to me, so I hope that's not what we get.

Spoiler:

You can be pretty sure that what this will lead up to is Beckett finding out about what Castle is up to and being furious at his 'betrayal'. My uneducated guess is that this won't happen any time soon and that what you're afraid of is probably going to happen. In the past Castle has completely abandoned Beckett's Mom's case except at the beginning and/or ending of the season. I'd imagine that's going to happen this year as well.

lostlobster - exactly. That would be disappointingly predictable, too.

Well... I don't tune in for the genius plotting, if you know what I mean. It's a popcorn show that has some witty writing, warm family feelings, and a hot lady cop. Just about right for my exhausted Monday self.

Oh I'm sure Castle's work will be revealed... right when Beckett finally decides to give their relationship a chance... therefore giving another reason why they can't be together...

Them's the rules for series television. Thou shalt have sexual tension. Thou shalt not allow tensioned couple release. Thou shalt invent more and more complex shennanigans for maintaining tension while denying release.

Exactly. All the show really needs is for Castle, Beckett, Esposito, and Ryan to trade barbs and funny looks.

My conspiracy theory:

Spoiler:

Beckett's boyfriend tried to kill her. He f*cked up her surgery, which was caught when the other doctor pushed him out. He spends time over seas and could easily have a shadowy past and instructions to keep Beckett from investigating the murder of her mom.

WORF!

I really liked this first episode. I thought they dealt with the cliffhanger from last season pretty well. I am not a big fan of the new captain. Her character is pretty stock, and I have seen it so many times before. I can already see how this all pans out. Take no bullsh*t female cop. It wasn't easy for her to get to the position she is in, and wants to make sure everyone stays in line. She is not a big fan of the way Beckett and her crew do their work and that creates a lot of tension! Than something happens, Beckett and co. find a lead in her case and they try to hide it, but the captain finds out and the crew think they are in trouble. The captain however is not a fan of corruption, coming from IA, and she becomes an important ally in case!

I will be really happy if I turn out wrong. I have a feeling I won't be.

+1

See, these theories are all so believable and predictable - I hope none of them are right, but I fear that Stele and Gaald are dead-on balls accurate. And particularly if Gaald is right, that has been done soooo many times before.

I understand folks saying this is a popcorn show, but it has become more than that over the years, and can be awesome if they keep doing what they've been doing.

Okay, wow. This episode may have ruined the show for me.

...

Someone PLEASE needs to tell Beckett that this "popular" TV hairstyle is the worst thing to come out of the past 10 years:

I hate it! It makes me irrationally angry every time I see it on TV. Take longs bangs, pull them straight back and clip em in place. It's so unflattering on every woman. Fortunately she didn't wear it like that the whole episode.

Ha! That hair jumped out to me too as I despise it as well.

Holy crap do I ever hate that actress. Maybe it's just that she's played completely annoying and despicable characters the only two times I've ever seen her, but jesus. I hate her. Lots.

It's Sherry Palmer all over again.

I figured Castle just became the new Life without all the zen.

Yeah she really knows how to be a Female Doggo. God I hated her so much on 24. Every time she was on screen. And I was so happy when she got shot.

I'm pretty sure I remember cheering at my TV and clapping. There may have even been a fist pump and some celebratory profanity.

The first time she says the name "David" on this show, I'm turning it off.

I think I just figured out you were talking abut the new captain and not Stana Katic. I mean, it may not be my favorite hairstyle, but I still think she's pretty hot.

Wait, Beckett did get shot. What?

The new Captain was in 24 as the wife of the president. She was particularly loathsome and eventually gets shot.
