Did I miss this topic someplace? Nathan Fillion is a favorite of mine so I'll be watching just to see him be a wise ass. Looks like they may have tailored the show to his brand of delivery.
On ABC Monday nights at 10. Starts March 9th

Thanks for nothing, DVR-that-decided-not-to-record-Castle-episode-2. Is this on Hulu or the equivalent?
I missed the first episode but caught last night's. I enjoyed it. It felt kind of ... old fashioned in a way, like shows like Moonlighting or Magnum PI that you would watch not for the intelligent plotlines but just because you liked the characters and it was fun spending time with them for an hour each week.
I have watched the first 15 or so minutes. I have a pretty good guess who the killer is. Hopefully tonight I can actually finish watching and find out if I am right!
The river flows on unceasingly, but the water is never the same water as before. Bubbles that bob on the surface of the still places disappear one moment, to reappear again the next, but they seldom endure for long.
Long live the new flesh.
Anyone that watches Castle is a pedophile.
Henry Standing Bear: It is a beautiful day at the Red Pony and continual soiree.
Castiel: I suggest we imbibe copious amounts of alcohol and just wait for the inevitable blast wave.
I wonder about these sorts of comments. In the future, will people reading through this thread know that this comment is a reference to another popular thread on the board today? Or will it just seem like the weirdest non sequitur?

Second episode was my first episode and I liked it. I like the interactions between Fillion and all his leading ladies. (daughter, mom and partner)
He does get a bit chatty but he is so damn charming and funny he will have you in stitches before it gets old.
Being fangoriously devoured by a gelatinous monster.
My DVR only recorded the first 10 minutes or so. When I woke up this morning the DVR said it was still recording it(?) but only had about 10 minutes recorded. Grrr.
...sometimes you get a point in agility, and sometimes you get a giant fighting bear.
I like the interactions between all the characters as well. I do hope that they don't make the cops on this show incompetent with Castle having to solve things for them. The scene in the precinct with the 2 other cops and the captain should have been handled differently. I want smart cops with Castle offering his own unique view, not cops that are idiots that Castle spoon feeds.
I agree with this. I do think that the show is a bit smoother with the plot device of WHY Castle is tagging along is out of the way.
And if Castle's new character is Nikki Heat (you saw a bit of his writing at the end) I don't think I'll be buying any of his novels any time soon.
Do you ever walk alone like a drifter in the dark?
His first ficitonal character's name was Derek Storm. I like that they're playing castle up as the quintessential terrible writer that for no real reason, people buy his books.

My stupid DVR botched its attempt to record the pilot episode. I watched the second ep last night and enjoyed it, but was wondering why he was tagging along with the police exactly. Care to elaborate?

Get a room, history nerds.
The first murder copied one of his books so he was brought in as an advisor. He enjoyed it and is now writing a book based around the female detective so that is why he is shadowing her.
He's writer that seems to have the same skills as Patrick Jayne from the Mentalist. The first episode dealt with a serial killer that was killing people in the same way he had written about in his books. He was brought in to help, and was key in solving the crime.
He is also rich and has many influential friends, like judges and the Mayor. So he pretty much gets to do whatever he wants. He has decided that solving crimes is fun, so he got the mayor to force the commissioner to allow Castle to tag along with the cute detective.
After the pilot I wasn't really sure if I should keep watching, didn't really blow me away. But I did, and the second episode was a bit better I think, gonna keep watching I guess

Also in the Pilot it is revealed that he kills off his best selling character in his latest book but is now suffering from writer's block. The female cop he shadows is his inspiration for his new character.
I notice a lot of people have asked about Castle being on Hulu. ABC doesn't have their shows on hulu, you have to use their viewer. Go to abc.com and at the top in red is "free episodes" click that then click the show you want (in this case Castle).
Pro-tip: When you hit abc.com, wait for the video embedded on the page to load so you can pause it and not have to listen to some super annoying commercial.

Watched the pilot last night. Was that really Patterson and...... other authors....... he was playing poker with?

I was wondering the same thing! I just assumed it was actually the real writers poking fun at themselves.
Good episode! Smart police, smart Castle. Still a smart ass. Seems to be going pretty well but I'm wondering what the story arc is going to be as they can't just keep doing this.
Man, I hate the mother character something fierce.
I am really enjoying this show, and it's all do to the Nathon Fillion's character. He's awesome! It doesn't matter who he is interacting with it's always interesting and often funny. The Castle character has some great dialogue.

I'm now caught up, and have to say that I like it.
I always liked cop dramas and this one is more entertaining for most. Fillion is hysterical and the girl, I think, is playing her character just right. Like she's not quite tough as nails yet, but she's getting there.
And the daughter's "confession" had me rolling.
Mrs. Lobster and I both really like it, too. This past episode didn't have the best police story, but we both like Fillion and the female lead. The kid was great in the last episode. I don't mind the mother that much.
I'm not sure they're going to do more than what they are doing with the show. It really does feel like a throwback show — like Moonlighting. They'll probably throw in a few multi-episode arcs for the characters, but I think it'll probably be pretty formulaic. Which, if they can keep up the banter/fun, is fine with me.
His daughter needs therapy. I kept expecting her to abruptly bust out laughing during her confession, not ACTUALLY believe that she deserves punishment or that hopping a turnstile was worthy of sobs and guilt. What a weirdo.
Actually I believe that she was crying not over the incident with the turnstile itself, but the fact that her dad came back from a murder case involving kids that affected him to the point that he directly asks her if there is anything she has hidden from him. Which she then proceeds to lie in his face.
Now as to why she felt that she had to lie about the incident with the turnstile itself, that's what she needs therapy for. And who can blame her? Have you seen her dad and grandmother? Most likely she is overcompensating for them in some strange way.

"Mommmm, now Voltar will never rule the omniverse!"
I love this show. If it gets canceled I will weep manly, manly tears.
"YOU SPOIL, YOU GET SPOILED! AAAAHAHAHAHAHA!"
agreed. I was concerned about the larger story but they seem to be doing really well with it.
Fillion so carries this show. His partner has been just a bit too much of a "straight man", but this last episode she's been a little better.
Certis: Quintin is both smart and attractive.
Fedaykin98: Good lord, I wouldn't have expected brilliance like that from that nemeslut Quintin Stone!
Yonder: It's weird to say this, but Quintin Stone may be the wisest person here.
We're catching up on this show at our household (I think we're one episode behind on the DVR. The one we watched last night was his newest book release). The show gets better and better each time. Great laughs, wonderful chemistry between Castle and Beckett, and even the supporting cast is a joy to watch. Witty dialog writing and great acting between the two stars really make this work. We're loving this!
