This week ISTYA leaves a key under the mat in... THE APARTMENT

For any Molly Wood fans, she just started a new podcast called Make Me Smart.

http://www.marketplace.org/topics/ma...

If you don't know who Molly Wood is, she did a tech-focused podcast called Buzz Out Loud for many years with Tom Merritt. Make Me Smart is very similar but with a slightly skewed angle towards Marketplace readers. Good stuff.

Crimetown! I heard about it on The Ringer. It's well researched looks at the criminal culture of American cities, one city per season. The first season is Providence, RI, which is neat to listen to because I visit occasionally.

This week ISTYA is getting too old for Christmas with... LETHAL WEAPON

I've been really enjoying Dead Pilots Society.

Every year TV networks and cable channels hear hundreds and hundreds of pitches for new programs. They buy upwards of a hundred of those pitches and then work with the creators and writers to develop that pitch into a pilot script. This process takes the better part of a year. After many, many rounds of feedback from the network executives the pilot is cast and there is a table read with the actors. If the read goes well--and after more feedback--the network will actually shoot the pilot and we might get to see it on TV.

This podcast isn't about those shows.

It's about the vast majority of pilot scripts that quietly die during the development process, many for no real reason. Those show creators and writers never actually get to hear their get performed. Until now.

There are two parts to The Dead Pilots Society podcast. The first is an interview with the pilot's creator and writers (conducted by Ben Blacker, host of The Nerdist's Writers Panel podcast and co-creator of the completely awesome Thrilling Adventure Hour) during which you get the backstory for the pilot, from pitching to development to why it died. The second part is a live table read of the pilot script with some seriously great actors.

That sounds awesome. Thanks for the rec!

Yeah, I downloaded all 4 episodes. Looking forward to them as backup for my regular listens when they run out!

Might be late to the party, but I'm enjoying Hello from the Magic Tavern's back catalog at the moment. It's really interesting to listen to a bunch of improv comedians create a semi-consistant fantasy world over the course of several months.

Small podcast world! I caught a nasty New Year's bug and have been going through their back catalog when I'm not in a fever fugue. Gotta love Chicago improvers!

The audio quality is really bad. I can't listen to it on the go because it's too hard to hear to consistently pay attention.

Oooh, looking forward to hearing the episode. I remember when that came out and most old timey people were all in an uproar. Never saw it though so I'm curious to see what's what.

I might have to listen to that one as well. Loved that movie back in the day.

Out of interest, do you tend to only listen to ones for films you've already seen?

More often, yeah, unless it's a movie I haven't seen, but that's still in the Zeitgeist.

Oh no, I listen to all of them! Although I'm a bit behind on my podcasts, but tats all podcasts, not just ISTYA.

Edit: I stand corrected! ISTYA is the only podcast I'm up to speed on, because they're short and sweet. Love you guys! Even though you guys can't even remember "the woman from Dune" is Paul Atreides' little sister who is three years old (her name is Alia).

Thanks for the feedback. But the woman fro due isn't Alia. I just looked her up and it's Shadout Mapes, played by Linda Hunt.

Ah yes, gotcha! In my defense, there was precious little to go on. Linda Hunt is indeed 1m45, that's not very tall at all.

Hey guys! My buddy and I are launching a podcast today. Sadly there's no special twist to it, just two white dudes talkin' multimedia like so many out there. It's largely just an excuse for us to chat once a week since we don't have many opportunities otherwise.

It's called Eh! Steve! and the first episode can be downloaded here directly or you can grab the RSS feed over here. The general focus is to be laid back and positive, and future episodes we're aiming to be 30-45 minutes in length (that's the hope at least), and while this week we're not talking games most of the episodes probably will be in the future. Obviously the first episode is gonna be a bit rough, but we had a good time recording (despite me being sick!) and we're looking forward to future episodes.

Any feedback is appreciated, particularly in regards to the background music (which I need to figure out how to better normalize). A blog post is also available here for some additional background.

OH! Also, looking forward to the latest ISTYA. I didn't see The Crow until a few years ago and it explained my freshman year university roommate so damn much.
