I've been bad about posting, but here's another episode of our anime podcast. This one was about Time of Eve, with other spotlights being Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, DBZ Movie 4: Lord Slug, and The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan. I wasn't actually available, so I'm not on this episode.

Can anyone recommend a James Bond podcast? Extra super bonus points if at least one of the hosts is a woman, and if they cover the books as well as the movies.

The big three seem to be James Bonding and Bondcast, and James Bond Radio. I'm sure I'll dip into them, but I wondered if there might be another worthwhile one I'd missed.

And now I've stumbled into Film Crit Hulk's four-essay series on James Bond, should anyone else be in a James Bond sort of mood. (DeHulkifier may also be useful.)

Thoughts on the Tim Ferriss Show?

I like getting the different perspective, the one with Whitney Cummings was really good. I just like getting different ideas on how successful people work.

I subscribe to James Bonding and do so because I absolutely love one of the hosts, Matt Gourley, from his outstanding Superego comedy podcast.

The format for the podcast is that the two hosts (Gourley and Matt Mira) discuss their guest's favorite Bond film. While they obviously aren't women, they've had several shows with a woman (or women) as guests.

Both Matt and Matt are true fans of James Bond and pack the episodes with a good amount of behind the scenes and inside baseball information about the movies (and sometimes the books). They're both comedians, though, so you're not going to get an academic or even comprehensive analysis of the movies. You're going to get them and their guests either gushing or cringing as they go through the movie together.

For its 50th show, ISTYA celebrates by... STAYING ALIVE.

I've been a long time This American Life listener and I've always enjoyed it.
Last week I listened to the NUMMI 2015 episode and it was amazing. I've always liked TAL's quality of production and great narrative skill. But this was the best show I've listed to in quite a while.

NUMMI stands for New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc, a joint venture between GM and Toyota. It's a great listen (plus, I'm sure it influenced Michael Keaton's Gun Ho, which I remember as a pretty funny movie).

I realized this would be a great type of podcast I could listen to while in commute; a business-case break down of specific cases. Does anyone know that sort of podcast?

From the creators of Star Wars Minute (minute), I've just gotten caught up on their other current project, AlphaBeatical - the crew are going through the entirety of the Beatles catalog, one song at a time, in alphabetical order. So far they're up to the mid-L's, and just passed the halfway point. Good sense of humor, and while they can't include the songs themselves, I've been swapping between Youtube and the podcast as necessary. I'm probably going to spring for a Beatles collection at some point as a direct result of engaging with the songs more comprehensively than I've been able to in the past.

Well, there's Planet Money. A little shorter than TAL, but definitely does business cases. Occasionally they'll run a PM piece on TAL.

Yeah, they're great. I've been following them ever since 2008 when the economy went the way of the dodo.
It's them and TAL that pretty much set the bar for me.

I skimmed over the thread and got a recommendation I liked; Freakonomics. I just started an episode. So far the production quality is great.

I also found one called The Limitless Business Podcast. Haven't heard it yet.

I tried Harvard's HBR ideacast about a year ago, but I remember it as amateur hour. Just someone talking into a mic. Felt like college radio (which technically speaking is what they are, but still).

This week ISTYA goes BACK TO THE FUTURE. Is the past as good as we remember?

Does anyone have a recommendation on a current events podcast? Basically I'm looking for news and analysis of geopolitical events. I read an article the other day about the nuclear saber rattling with Russia and realized I'd love to hear more about this, but my podcast app is filled with trivia, relatively speaking.

If you listen to Thrilling Adventure Hour, what's going to fill its spot in your rotation?

Hmm, Slate's Political Podcast is pretty good. Slanted towards domestic stuff but they will talk geopolitics.

Not sure if its what you are looking for, but the only kind of world news podcast I have subbed is the BBC Worldservice News one, which seems to give a pretty good reporting of current events.

This week ISTYA flounces into frame with French film DIVA.

I went back to episode one and re-downloaded it...

Sadly, there's nothing that can replace TAH. It was a unique thing.

What I have found, though, is that I've been looking forward to Spontaneanation with Paul F. Tompkins every week. It's basically a celebrity interview plus long form improv based on the interview.

And if you haven't already, give Getting on with James Urbaniak a listen. Every episode is a short story featuring Urbaniak, but there's absolutely no continuity whatsoever. It's just a series of very compelling (and ridiculous) stories narrated as if they all happened to him.

I saw Diva back in college; it was my first exposure to Dominique Pinon; I'll be curious to see whether the film holds up, since it's been.. 15/16 years since I saw it.

It's a strange film to review, which is probably while we ended up cracking a lot of jokes. However I suspect university was the ideal place to watch it.

As I recall, it's a strange film, period.

As a quick update on my podcasts, Freakonomics is great. Got hooked right away.

Easy listening, interesting topics. Highly recommended for everyone.

Not so much the other one. If Bro's podcasted about how much they even broed, this would be the podcast in which they would congratulate themselves about it. A must pass for anyone.

Yes and steers so terribly close to coherence.

Just started listening to What's The Point by FiveThirtyEight. Nice deep dive into stats on current events topics. Similar to Freakonomics.

4 stars. Would (did) listen again!

I saw that recently. It's incredible how young certain actors look in films where you initially thought they were starting to look incredibly old and out of shape. There was a lot of paunch hiding in the film though.

Also: Improvised Star Trek

You guys should do a double feature for Waxworks I & II . If you only do one, though, make it the second one.
