"Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth" Catch All
Well I'm not sure if I've got the authority or the right to start this thread or not, but I'm going to anyways, because I'm just not a fan of the comments system they've got running at eat-sleep-game. I'm going to listen to them and their discussion in Game Club, however if anyone has played this game or is currently playing it I'd love to have a real conversation about it. I'm still new here, so if creating this thread is offensive to the GWJ guys I won't complain if you lock it up. I asked for formal permission but I didn't here back. Phil didn't seem against the idea when he mentioned it on the last Rebel FM, and I don't exactly consider this a Rebel FM backlog thread as much as this a thread about the game itself. I personally couldn't care less if my comments get read on the air, I just want to talk about the game. So I'll start off.
I finally got the game in the mail today after waiting two weeks, and I was super excited to start it. Resident Evil 4 was my first survival horror game technically, but it was more of an action game than anything, so I like to think this is my first actual survivor horror title. The insanity system is hard to grasp for me so far, but I'm still early in the game and it hasn't killed me yet, so I don't think it will be too bad. I'm not going to try to be spoiler free, but I'll do what I can to avoid specific plot points. I just got the key to the safe in the variety store, I think I'm close to the end of the second level. The atmosphere to this game is really well done, and I am genuinely on edge out most of the time. Especially when I entered the poor house and you could tell that "thing" was watching you. It's pretty obvious to see who's messed up and who isn't, as everyone is gray and swollen for some reason. When the little girl Ramona opened the door for me, it was pretty clear something was seriously wrong with her, but I'm still curious as to what. Also I still don;t get why the symbol on the wall is different from the other ones, but I'm sure it'll come in handy in due time. I still think Jack is relatively calm about the fact he's seen about 40 dead bodies in that town after only looking for 2 hours. Also the flashback where I got sent back to the hospital and controlled my character for a few seconds was pretty awesome, I hope they do more with that in the later levels. Overall I'm very impressed with this game so far, if only I didn't suck at stealth.
So anyone else playing this? I'm comfortable with this being a 3 page one man conversation, but hopefully that won't be the case.
