Mount & Blade Mod Recommendations

Native Improved mod is pretty good. It makes a ton of small changes to the Native game without changing the way the game feels. It makes the armies feel a bit more unique as far as their gear and changes horses/cavalry quite a bit. I started a Khergit guy and have been having giant horse battles.

He lists his reasoning for all his changes in that thread, and overall I like the mod, but I'm only level 10.

Is there a mod that stops your heroes from quitting? My engineer stormed off in a huff last night and now I can't find him. Neither can the "traveler." He took a bunch of good gear with him, too. My best archer also left and I can't find her. Yet the idiot who let me convince him to stay around just long enough for me to take all his stuff and boot him out, I can find him just fine. I'd also kind of like a more eclectic group. It's interesting to me to have a disenfranchised noble, a runaway bride, a crazy barbarian, a monk, a klepto assassin and a grizzled old soldier than just have a bunch of good guys who all nod in approval when I do "the right thing."

Does anyone know if there are camera mods? The slow camera pan followed by that ANNOYING rubber-banding effect got old really frigging quick.

Little confusing, and the part about what I'd need to do to get it in a game in progress is scary.

Anyone using one of the HDR mods? I heard in one post that is causes a crash on exit, and I'm wondering if the mod is worth the hassle.

I tried to do the mod that would let me talk to the village elder from the village menu. Oddly, what this ended up doing was putting me into a conversation with myself. I could ask myself for quests, ask myself questions. Very strange.

I had the same problem. I removed the mod for that reason.

I don't think it is. I tried it with and without it and can't really tell the difference. Also on Vista + Steam the error message would pop under the game-screen. So you have to Alt-Tab to bring it up before the game will close. Pain in the butt!

What's the best Mod that lets you start your own Kingdom?

Can we get a link to this thread in the OP of the M&B thread?

How do people like that Age of Machinery mod? How are the guns? How do the siege weapons work?

No guns, but the siege engines are tons of fun. There's also a morale system for the field which adds a new element to the game and you have kingdom options for when you collect enough castles and fiefs and become your own king.

The Polished Buildings Mod breaks sieges using the Tower.
The models are gorgeous and really bring the cities to life... but attacking certain castles has become impossible.
Be Warned!

Oh, I thought it had muskets. Any of them have muskets? Or chocobos?

There are some, but I don't know if they're quite ready for 1.010. I'd take a look at the Taleworld forums and the like. I even saw one for Battlestar Galatica - done in freaking space. Its like someone rewrote, really, the entire game.

Is anyone playing the Prophecy of Pendar?? I have only played a bit so far but the factions are interesting and they seem to be working on a backstory/mainquest. Pretty formula fantasy stuff. It is a much more difficult mod if people are looking for a challenge.

I wondered myself so I dug through the main M&B thread:

I hate it when people release Mods as a .RAR file. If you want people to use your mod for goodness sakes use a .zip

I mentioned this one in the main M&B thread, but I'll put it here for anyone interested.

Lords and Realms.

Download Here

I've been putting my thoughts on the mod in the main thread.

I spent some time on Lords and Realms last night and really enjoyed it (I've been in the beta since the .6xx days or so and have played Native to death). I wouldn't recommend it to a new player, though - it seems to be made for a veteran of a Native campaign to import into. The end game and enemy UI/gear is a definite step up.

Yeah Minase, that's what I've been telling everyone as well. It does get you to that end game a lot quicker. Early on I was going up multiple levels in single battles. I'm currently a King with 3 vassal lords, carving out my own kingdom.

Anyone here try the starwars mod?

I looked at it years ago when it was in development, at the time it just didn't have enough polish to it to keep me interested. Let us know if you've tried it and it's good.

7zip opens them all.

I've been enjoying Chronicles of Talera lately. I got a little tired of mods that didn't do much besides buff up pikemen or archers. This one does a good job of really shaking up the units, and establishing factions which each have a very unique feel. Some of the factions also have unique questlines which have nice rewards, and one has a faction shop where you can purchase items based on how far along you are in their quests.

Difficulty is much higher than Native, so it'll take you awhile to get off the ground if you're used to your level 40+ guy who singlehandedly turns every battle. Some of the character statistics have been reworked and renamed, so character importing to this mod works imperfectly. I wound up starting over from scratch, and it's been fun to try out a different build.

The writing is solid if not amazing, and the map has been completely redone. The world is still clearly unpolished, and some lingering artifacts from Native remain (old city names referred to in conversations, most companions are unchanged), but there's plenty here to enjoy.

It's got headless horsemen, speedy warrior monks with staffs, undead armies, magical infantry who spawn in copies of themselves, and some really cool forests that actually feel like forests. Well worth a play.

I put a few hours into this yesterday. My initial impressions are that it's quite fun. There are still a lot of unpolished elements (your speeders make gallop sounds when jumping, a lot of the dialog has not been changed when it really should be, there is still a day/night cycle which effects your visibility on the galactic map) but it's still been quite a bit of fun. I'm not sure it's going to keep my interest for long, It depends on how the end game works out for me.

Edit: I forgot to mention some of the elements that are actually more polished than Native. More powerful enemies are available for higher bounties. Also you can tell your heroes what sort of equipment to use and they will upgrade themselves from the equipment you loot. That's been a real time saver, especially because I think there are more heroes in this one.

I've now tried a few of the mods and so far I like what they've done with Lord and Realms the most. I like the additional weapons, units, option to automatically upgrade your heroes' items at the end of a battle and so on.

I'm currently modding and tweaking the native module before trying any total conversions. I'm mostly interested in the graphics mods to make everything more pretty.

I was wondering how many you guys managed to get working at once without bugs. I read through the list on the main page but it seems like some of them cause problems with gameplay (the shiny buildings mod for instance), HDR crashes the game and so on.

For actual modding, I used the 2.5 enhancement mod, and one that made the faces look better. The rest of the stuff I did was just tweaks to .ini files.

Whoops, it looks like I borked my install somehow. I was editing text files to tweak the game, went to start it back up and it crashed whenever it got to the "loading settings" part. The faulting module is ntdll.dll and I get a warning from WinDefender about "runme.exe". Isn't that a little helper program that lets third party games integrate into Steam? The Steam release of Mass Effect has it too.

Argh, redownloading now. This time I will have to verify each tweak one by one.
