Battlestar Galactica - Final Season Catch-All (SPOILERS)

"Hi, I'm a PC."

"And I'm a Cylon."

Well now you know why the Cylons were able to hack the network.

IE6 vulnerabilities?

That's a very interesting question. I believe that's what happened to Ellen, too, actually. If you recall the episode where she came into the picture, there was some question about her nature (cylon or human), because she couldn't remember how she'd gotten on the ship she was on.

My wild speculation, inspired by these comments:

The humanoid cylons were originally created to give mankind a kind of immortality. When a person died, their mind was uploaded into a cylon copy (which could in turn be resurrected indefinitely). Over time, the human population of Earth was replaced by cylons.

Somehow this is still going on, and that's how Starbuck and maybe Baltar came back. Maybe they weren't part of the 12 "original" cylon models, but they're cylons now.

At the end of the series, the fleet will find a planet populated entirely by cylon copies of dead people, possibly including: Ellen Tigh, Saul Tigh (if he dies), Dee, Zac Adama, the population of Caprica, Billy, any number of minor characters who died, etc.

While an interesting theory, it's way too happy for Ron Moore, I think.

If any human who dies becomes a Cylon copy somewhere, that is going to be one overcrowded planet :).

Yeah, definitely it's unlikely to say the least, but I do think there's probably going to be a big Sixth Sense/Twilight Zone/Planet of the Apes style revelation at the end... something meant to be shocking and tie everything up in a (relatively) neat package even if it's a dreary, hopeless package...

I'm not sure how I feel about that personally. I think I'd probably have more respect for the series if it didn't go out like that. And without the overall plot being carefully planned from the very beginning, I'm not optimistic about how neat it can be... Hope I'm wrong.

Or they could go the Star Trek Route: It was all some test by incredibly powerful superbeings.

If they don't end up explaining how Baltar got off Earth, I'll be disappointed. I'm fully expecting his nature to be significantly tied to Starbuck's nature, and to really be a bigger event, since they've been (I think) deliberately avoiding reminding you that that mystery even exists. Focusing on Starbuck could be a bit of misdirection.

[edit] - And is it just me, or do we STILL not know who left the note on Adama's desk at the beginning, telling him how many Cylon models there were?

I had forgotten about that.

I always assumed that was Baltar. He wanted to help, but he had to help anonymously. And I'm pretty sure Head Six had told him about the number of cylon models.

AFAIK, it's never even been hinted at.

Yep, she did, and I've always assumed it was Baltar because of that, too.

I don't know if you guys have seen Black Books, but the Elephants and Hens episode always reminds me of Star Trek:

"...and they all drank lemonade, The End!"

Holy sh*t!.. So much for Zarek the Populist. Should have seen that coming.

As I said before ... A Political Plot by Tom Zarek is like nude skinny dipping at Crystal Lake in the middle of the night with a dimwitted co-ed. Never works out and never ends well.

Oh no! Not the Quorum!

I'm guessing that when Dee said "the system's broken and needs to be replaced with something better", she probably didn't mean by Marines going gun-happy because the Sagittaron rep got sassy.

I kinda felt like, deep down, Gaeta did all of this because he wanted to die. But rather than end it quickly and efficiently like his BFF Dee did, Gaeta needed to make his death mean something, because he certainly didn't have much meaning left in his life. I think his revolution was always meant to be suicide: his elegant, well-orchestrated last stand against his own despair. Too bad his death still ended up being pointless. And involved the deaths of at least 100 other people. And let loose a known terrorist. You suck, Gaeta.

Actually, I really pity the guy. Remember how Gaeta was in the first season, following Baltar around like a puppy, believing in the power of science to effect good over evil? He was so idealistic, and even hopeful. After Earth, this was really the only trajectory his character could have followed. People like him may be able to survive the destruction of the 12 Colonies, they may be able to eke through four years aboard a tin can, but they can't survive the slaughter of their own hope. They'll just jump in the river like the foxes Adama talked about a few episodes ago, and head out to sea, and take a ton of people with them.

Just finished the latest episode. I have mixed feelings. It some high points, but overall it felt like they wrapped the insurrection up a little too quickly and cleanly. Kind of a let down after the last episode.

Also, Rabbit made a recent twitter about BSG:

"GWJRabbit Just finished the Shut Up We're Talking Podcast with @Zonk. Catching up on BSG. Hope my daughter grows up to be Kara Thrace. A little."

http://twitter.com/GWJRabbit

I'm guessing he hasn't fully caught up yet.

I am so hoping they keep up this pace for the remainder of the season. A crushed coup in 2 episodes tells me they have much bigger things to move on to, which is awesome.

That crack in the wall of the engine room can't be good. I'm thinking that Bad Things will happen if Galactica has to jump to FTL. And it's about time the rest of the cylons show up, isn't it?

I've got a daughter of my own. There's something to be said for imagining your daughter as someone who kicks butt and won't be pushed around. The cigars... not so much.

I understand Starbuck has some positive traits and I'm sure that was what he was referring too, its just kind of funny to hear someone say they hope their daughter is like a character that is a head case and kind of a slut.

Just watched the most current episode. Pretty powerful stuff. Outside the quorum meeting I was watching thinking to myself "Would they really kill everyone....?" daaaaaaam they did it!

I also have to admit that the reunion between Adama and Roslin got me a little misty eyed which is unusual because stuff like that usually doesn't get to me.

It seems to me that if they have the other cylons jump in and galactica can't use their FTL it's gonna be a really slow season. I just don't think they could hold the tension level for that period of time.

...I swear it!! I'm coming for all of you!

Awesome. Just Awesome.

I don't know. I enjoyed the episode but I couldn't help but roll my eyes at that scene.

So we don't know if Anders lived or not? I wonder if perhaps it got edited out, but it seems like an odd thread to just leave dangling in the breeze while everything else got wrapped up.

That vengeance speech gave me chills!

That 'crack' in the engine room was weird. It looked so jagged like a massive claw tore through the metal. I pictured a zergling pouncing the Chief right after he saw that.

The next 3 episodes will be an Aliens movie

Yeah, what was the significance of that "crack"? I didn't get it...

gewy wrote:

I think that had Galactica jumped she would have gone kaplooey, and Chief realized how close they had been to death.

I assume they shot it and had to cut it for time. I think its fair to assume he survived though. And if we are back to Resurrecting Cylons doesn't really mean frak all if he did or didn't.

I know this has been round-and-round, but that generally means discussion on the current episodes but not hints from podcasts or other non-aired sources. Guess I just need to avoid all threads on shows or books until the whole thing is played out.
