Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Closes so far to real life for the animation. I liked this one but didn't care for the ending. I'm not sure what the ending meant. The stakes seem to be world ending and I wasn't sure if the world was doomed or saved.

She blinded herself to save the world. Standard Cthulu stuff.

As for Jibaro: the blood that fills the lake heals the siren. The knight drinks of it and it heals his hearing.

Masons rats: The man is horrified at the carnage and puts a stop to it.

I was amused at the glee displayed by the robot in killing the rats. They did a good job in portraying that it was programmed to be a little too enthusiastic about its job.

Ghost in the Shell SAC 2045 pt 2

The second season came and tried to fix up the mess that was the first season. The animation is still not good but it looks like they got a little bit better. The story is a mess from the first part but they did manage to tie many of the threads together.

I liked it because I really like the series but if you’d never seen much of GITS before, watch the movie they created out of the first Netflix series and then watch the second season, it will make mose sense

I watched the movie they made out of the first series without realizing it was made out of a series. Funny how Netflix recommends things.

I didn't like it. The animation was dreadful and nothing about the story engaged me.

I agree with the animation being crap

Yeah, the story wasn’t much better for the first season either, who am I kidding - I just like the world and want more of Section 9

Fantastic season of Love Death + Robots.

Yep this season of Love Death + Robots was probably my favorite with Kill Team Kill as the only one that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy.

Honey Badger don't give a sh*t!

I'll join the chorus to sing the praises of Love, Death + Robots. I wrapped up Season 3 last night and enjoyed it very much for the most part. I don't remember gobbling down those episodes as quickly as I did this time out.

I think I gave it sh-t before and I'll do it again: Was Three Robots that popular that it needed a sequel to take up a slot this season? It wasn't terrible, just the same smarmy attempts at humour that continued to fall flat for me.

S3 also felt extra violent as already mentioned in previous posts, not that I minded at all. In Vaulted Halls Entombed in particular gave me this interesting feeling of R-rated The Mummy by way of Resident Evil 1 (the movie) and a splash of a horror video game concept I once pitched in school.

Stranger Things 4 is now streaming.

I'm a couple of episodes in and am really digging the direction they've taken. They've nicely leaned into the fact the kids are a lot older than the last time we saw them without losing the earlier magic. Overall the epis are a bit darker (more straight up horror) and clock in at well over an hour each.

I should not have watched the first episode right before bed.

What a strange release schedule. Episodes 1-7 are available now, and episodes 8-9 will be available in 5 weeks?

Gotta get 2 months subscription out of returners instead of just 1

Why not just release it weekly like everyone else does at that point, though? I know Netflix has their weird ideological compulsion to dump entire seasons instead of staggering releases, but "binge seven episodes, then wait over a month for two more" seems like a "worst of both worlds" scenario.

Pure speculation:

Spoiler:

Netflix wants to get as many of its subscribers caught up through the first 7 episodes before the last two, because one of the main characters is going to be killed off in episode 8, and they want all fans of the show to have an opportunity to experience (and talk about it) it all at once.

What's even the point of releasing a streaming service-only show on a weekly basis? No one's going to talk about the show around the water coolers because we've all learned that 1) not everyone is subscribed to every streaming service, 2) even if someone is subscribed to the same streaming service they might not have found or even be interested in that specific show, and 3) even if someone is subscribed to the same streaming service and are into this particular show not everyone is going to be caught up to the latest episode (and a decade of streaming etiquette has taught people not to spoil content). So, at best, it'll be two people going "the show's good, isn't it?"

HBO, Amazon, and others have shown there's still value in keeping the overall chatter (especially online) about a show going when you release week to week. Frankly, after this week, people will stop talking about Stranger Things online. Same thing happened with the new season of The Witcher. I prefer getting all eps at once too, but there's something to be said about a show that lingers for several weeks instead of coming and going in the space of a weekend.

Yeah I actually prefer a weekly release cadence. Makes it easier to keep up with them and I like having the time to look forward to next one even though I dislike waiting for it.

It really felt like Chrissy was Giotto get fridged so I intentionally didn’t invest much in the character. Turned out to be right

Amazon did Bosch: Legacy by releasing 2-3 episodes every week. I'm a fan of that cadence. Im expecting them to keep doing that with B tier shows

Drop 2-3 episodes to start, then weekly after that, seems like a good balance. That's what Wheel of Time did.

...Which I know not everyone likes that show, but that's not the fault of the release schedule.

Oh duh we have a separate Stranger Things thread. Good call Rat Boy.

This is me as well. I also find that I barely even remember the shows I watch after binging them. Its just not how I like to experience television, for the most part. But I totally understand people that do.

Depending on the show, I like to binge watch in 2 or 3 sittings and then rewatch one at a time to see what I missed the first time.

If your involved in the TV/recap communities you can see that the weekly releases always drive more discussion and interest. On the community I visit, Witcher S2, which was a Netflix dump, was still done as an episodic recap, but they tagged on 20 minutes or so at the end for people who had watched the whole thing to get into season spoilers. It still felt a bit forced because I want my podcasters to be as in the dark as I am when discussing the show.

I’m hearing good things about a movie called RRR. Indian movie that is apparently completely over the top and bonkers fun.

Oh, it *does* look good! Indian movies are so much fun.

If you haven't already, you should check out Baahubali and Baahubali 2. They're both on Netflix and definitely deliver on the over the top and bonkers fun (plus several mandatory, highly choreographed and produced musical numbers).

I am 20 min into RRR and can safely say that this movie is indeed bonkers, over the top, and absolutely delightful.

Edit: and over. SO much fun! I loved it.

Watched RRR tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Just a fantastic popcorn action flick.

You could tell that Ray Stevenson was having a ball really leaning into playing the completely evil, sadistic bastard of an English Governor bad guy.
