Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Those aren't mistakes.

I enjoyed Outside the Wire. My only complaint is that it didn't hit its message as hard as it could have.
If it had had the same sort of punch that District 9 had, it would be a classic.

Have you noticed how the sets in the alternate world are a mirror of the "first" world?

Ha ha I don't think if I watched this a hundred times that I would have noticed that.

OMG!
I have only see none episode but Alice in Borderland is my new favorite show! It is very weird that the characters grabbed me in the first 5 minutes because they flirt with a balance of lovable and loser. They come across as people who need to just breath when they could easily fall into the "why should I care about these people?" The other oddity is I just blew through the natural language barrier as well. Typically sub titles creates some lag in understanding characters but I just love the dynamic of the trio and the introduction of the female lead later.

And then WHAM! The premise kicks in and it is off to the races with incredible tension for such a simple set piece. The violence arguably rare and brief but poignant and terrifying. That the rules of the game are laid out through violence is pretty gripping writing.

I loved it so much I stopped myself from automatically binging the next handful of episodes so that my wife can see it too.

Knights of Sidonia if anyone likes anime

Season 3 hits May 21 after a six year wait. Can't believe they made me wait this long to see a giant talking penis.

I am guessing you haven't watched any of Trump's televised appearances? A talking penis has been a mainstay on tv for the past 4 years.

Damn you I've been trying to erase that from my memory!

Another one added to the Netflix list.

Bridgerton has a season 2 that they’ll start filming this spring.
Curious who they’ll cast as Kate!

Yeah, I talked about it in the anime thread and maybe this thread when it came out. Loved it! Can't wait for more. It's Battle Royale mixed with a bunch of other stuff.

Watched 2 episodes of Alice in Borderland. Pretty cool stuff.
Reminds me a lot of Gantz, but scaled down (more budget friendly). If you liked that, you'll probably like this.

Alice in Borderland? What madness is that?

Short summaries:
A tiny bit spoilery.

Spoiler:

People are stuck in an open world map and the events are deadly games.

Not spoilery.
Kind of like The Cube, Saw and stuff like that.

Its like Gantz but they are unarmed and as far as I know they don't earn points or experience. They just get to survive for a few more days.

I'd say the experience are the days they're rewarded with. But yes, the games are more varied in Alice, while in Gantz it was usually about defeating an enemy.
It's too bad they didn't do anything after Gantz O. That was pretty good.

I definitely enjoyed Gantz 0

I had a funny thought. Gantz 0 and Alice are the same except Gantz centers around shooter boss fights and Alice is casual games to the death.

I loved Gantz O.

Wife and I finished The Trial of the Chicago 7 earlier this evening. I'm an open Sorkin fan and the movie delivers in spades. It has a number of outstanding scenes and the performances are top notch. I'm developing a pretty serious (non-Borat) Sacha Baron Cohen man-crush.

I’m going to have to give it a try.

Have you guys read the Gantz manga? I remember watching Gantz O and enjoying it but thinking that someone who didn't already know the story would probably feel lost. Maybe I was wrong about that?

Maybe only the last few mins but the premise is explained at the beginning I believe.

I haven't read the manga and was not lost in the premise. Well anymore than one normally would at the start of a story that reveals its rules subtly over time.

The manga is bonkers. And not for everybody.

I'd recommend Inuyashiki (by the same author), which deals with a lot of similar themes but in a more contained, coherent story.

I love Gantz, but I heartily agree with Grenn: it is bonkers, and it's not for everybody. If you get through Inuyashiki and find yourself wanting more, that probably a good sign that you may be in the subset of "everybody" that Gantz is for.

The Inuyashiki anime is cool and short. Haven't read the manga.
I really liked the Gantz manga, though it loses a bit of steam towards the end. I can't recommend the anime. It ends really badly. Gantz 0 picked a good part from the manga and makes a good job in being self-contained.

Finished Alice in Borderland. I liked it, but it can get extremely melodramatic at times. Maybe I'd give this a pass in anime form, but it doesn't work for me in live action. Still, I hope there's a sequel.

I started watching the first episode of True Blood last night because I was in a bit of a vampire mood, but stopped watching after 15 minutes because it just seemed so silly with a lot of stupid humor, but I don't know if that 15 minutes is truly reflective of what the rest of the series is like or if they just started it all off in a really dumb way.

Then I watched the first episode of the Gilmore Girls because some people who really love Downton Abbey also love it and liked it much better than my first attempt at True Blood.
