Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Is that the one where they go back in time? I gave it a chance and watched three episodes but it got too dumb for me to suspend disbelief and I gave up.

I doubt it, because it was actually a pretty smart premise and story arc. It's a similar time travel story as 12 Monkeys, but less gritty and crazy. Travelers have their consciousness transferred back in time to a specific person. With the advent of cell phones and social media, they are able to target certain people who they know are about to die, and where. So Travelers enter take over the consciousness of the person just early enough to avoid the cause of death, and "become" that person. The goal is to help facilitate actions in the past that will avoid the calamities that have ravaged the planet in the future.

But there are some really good storylines about what makes us unique that are explored while the they deal with saving the planet.

Just did some searching and you are right. The show I was thinking of is Continuum.

Honestly, I wondered if that was the show you were thinking about. I only did one episode of it, though.

Glitch series 2 is coming November 28. If you haven't watched the first series, DO EEET. It's a brief six hours, and a ripping yarn.

80% Fresh on RT.

Series 2 was broadcast on ABC in the show's native Australia back in September and October.

Cool. the first series of that was pretty good.

I tried sticking with Travellers, because of the premise but part way through the first series I stopped. It just felt like they didn't have the budget to bring in enough extras to make certain locations feel lived in at all. Not sure why but this niggled me far more than it really should have...

It's been a while, but an example...

Spoiler:

... that secret base where they only ever seemed to run into the one character, just the one member of staff who must have been running that whole place single handedly...

... That's how it felt anyhow, unreasonably annoyed I know, but took me right out of it, disappointing.

Reminds me, has anyone watched the 12 Monkeys series that's been up for a while? Wondering if should give it a go...

... After I'm done with Punisher and got around to S2 Stranger Things.

I really enjoyed ST S1, and should have been hyped and got straight to it, but really haven't felt the pull to go back for S2 just yet, at all... Weird.

12 Monkeys is great. Travelers is also great. The reason one person kept showing up at the base is because he lives there since he is homeless. The rest of the gang has homes and relationships to maintain.

One thing about 12 Monkeys is that it doesn't hold your hand at all. I recall wondering why some guy was doing stuff then a few episode down the line he time travels making his actions before make sense. The show doesn't remind you of what the guy was doing before. You can't turn off your brain with this show. Travelers is bit more basic but both shows are consistent and follows the rules they put fourth.

I'm thinking of someone else, or maybe a different base - a woman, either the head scientist or base boss. Just wasn't sure who she was the boss of, as I don't recall there being any other staff there whenever the Travellers or military(?) turned up... I don't know, it's been a while, I just remember it bugging me.

Edit. I had a look, I meant...

Spoiler:

Dr Delaney, for such an important antimatter facility, at points it sure seemed to be a little understaffed...

My memory might be fuzzy, it might just be me, but the world just seemed empty.

TekWar! Dark Angel! I had no(some) idea it was Canada!

Just caught up with 'Travellers' - that was surprisingly great!

That's a greatly to put it. On the surface, it feels like one of the generic Canadian scifi shows set in American City, USA. But the story holds up, and is a lot more interesting than I thought it would get.

My wife and I were big fans.

A Thing. So odd.

A lot more common than you might expect. It exploded in the '90s and is still going strong. See if any of your favourite SF shows are counted.

Oh yeah, I know. Queer as Folk as well, among many others.

I had to look that up as I remember Queer as Folk being Littlefinger in Manchester.

It got to the point where Orphan Black finally said, "Screw it, the show's set in Canada."

OMG "The Good Place" is great!

Big fan of Janet

Janet is a ride or die type of gal.

Not too much of a surprise but Netflix has officially renewed MST3K for another season.

Wheelman - Responsible and caring father makes prudent decisions for his family.

Wheelman is great for what it set out to do. It doesn’t try to stretch its conceit nor ask too much of its actors. I might watch it again.

My partner started and finished Godless and said she liked it, though it has its issues.

Oh, I liked Wheelman! The cinematography was on-point. It did a great job conveying a sense of movement, mass, and momentum through the shots and framing.

That said, I found Frank Grillo’s decision making process to be... flawed. His wife brief response when she realizes what is happening is an excellent summation of his character.

I loved Travelers more than I should. I'm pretty sure I posted that somewhere in this thread.
Anyway, S2 is not appearing for me in Netflix here in Mexico.
Does everyone else have it available in Netflix? I thought it was a co-production and would get preferred released dates or at the very least, a few hours delays how ST:Discovery shows up in Netflix Latam...

***sigh***

My favorite bit of criticism so far is that in a show set ostensibly in a town with no men in it... men still get over 70% of the spoken lines in the pilot.

Some very unhappy ladies on Twitter after reading Netflix's blurb on the show and then giving it a shot.

This was my partner’s criticism as well, more or less.

I've only seen bits of the trailers and never would have guessed it takes place in a town with no men given that male characters are front-and-center.

December 26

Here's a bunch of original shows appearing on Netflix in December.

Also appearing in December: Peaky Blinders season 4.

Peaky Blinders's appeal wore out for me at the start of the 3rd season. All I could think watching the first few scenes was 'holy sh*t after 2 full seasons I get that you're a sullen bastard who smokes his face off, lets get on with the story'
Anyone want to talk me into pushing through?

I watched Amanda Knox a few days ago. It’s not your typical true crime documentary. It made me a nervous wreck, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Put your critical thinking cap on before you start watching.

BBC's Round Planet is a pretty entertaining parody of their own documentaries.

Jim and Andy, is an incredible documentary on Netflix about Jim Carrey playing mg Andy Kaufman (in Man on the Moon) and how it kind of broke his mind. The most interesting behind the scenes documentary I’ve seen in my life. It users footage originally filmed at the time, but deemed unusable because it makes Jim Carrey look like an asshole.

I watched that last night. I enjoyed it, but yes it does make him look like an asshole. I do feel for the cast and the crew, how are they supposed to deal with all of that. And the current timeline interviews with Carrey don't make him look much better. He mostly just rambles about concepts that don't make any sense whatsoever. Or at least my feeble brain couldn't follow 75% of what he was talking about.

So, he captured Andy Kauffman, perfectly?

Haha, that is EXACTLY my reaction to the show and right where I quit too.
