Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

A quick and slightly off-topic question for you guys:
Can you use the Watch Instantly feature on your 360 if you're not a gold (subscription-paying) member?

I am not 100% sure, but I believe you need a Gold membership.

Edit: A quick googling seems to confirm that.

You need to be a gold member, but if you don't want to pay for teh subscription just buy playon. It is a one time $30 fee and you can stream Hulu and other goodies in addition to netflix.

I've never been a fan of the boss characters on The IT Crowd-- the absolute best eps are the low-key ones with just Roy, Moss and Jen. Case in point-- the second series episode "the work outing" is as close as I think anyone can come to crafting a nearly flawless situation comedy.

The further the show gets outside the realm of the IT nerds, the less funny it becomes.

Chris Morris (the actor who played Denholm) is a British national treasure, dammit! That said, the IT crowd is his least great work.

If you can track it down on teh intertubes, Brasseye is one of the best pieces of satire I've ever seen. It's ever so slightly lost on a US audience, as many of the celebrities that he fools into saying the stupidest things aren't known on this side of the pond.

Youtube has some clips of it - check 'em out.

Funny thing is, YES, because of how he was treated on the show, I assumed he was supposed to be some big star Just didn't do a thing for me.

Eh, he's not anything like a big star - he's more of a niche performer. But he's done some cracking stuff.

I saw him at a gig in London once. Me and a friend danced around, gurning at with false Billy-Bob teeth in. Ahhh, great days.

Thanks. I moved a lot over the summer and my gold membership expired in the meantime.
I don't have much reason to spring for a gold membership right now with very limited free time, but I was wondering if I could still stream Netflix through my 360.

I may take a closer look at some of the new hdtvs that feature Netflix streaming without any external hardware, like the LG42LH50. That's for the HDTV thread through.

For those MC Frontalot fans out there, Nerdcore Rising is now available on Instant Watch.

Watched it a couple days ago. It's interesting. Would have like to have seen more of MC Chris and the other Nerdcore participants performing versus the focus on Frontalot's tour. Still, all in all a decent docu for those that appreciate the genre.

Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus is on there now.

Yeah, it was horrible. Trust me, I watched the whole thing.

Why would anyone do that to themselves? You sir take masochism to a new level.

I saw the commercial for this while flicking through the sci-fi channel. I am quite confused as to why they would spend any type of money at all on something like this.

Inconceivable! The Princess Bride is now on Instant Watch.

Thank you! I have a sick daughter at home who is queuing it up right now.

Not suitable for her, but they have The Shawshank Redemption and Broken Arrow (the latter is very silly, but still fun).

Finally got around to watching Traitor, a terrorism/counter-terrorism/FBI movie starring Don Cheadle in a serious role and he is amazing in it, as is Guy Pearce. Highly recommended to anyone interested in a nuanced terrorism movie.

A random assortment of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes is now available on Watch Instantly.

May I recommend Zombie Nightmare (Starring Adam West, Tia Carrere, and The 80s), Laser Blast (boring dude acquires alien laser gun and goes on murder spree, but is somehow still boring) and Future War (a nun, an alien and overweight former drug addicts fight dinosaurs from the future in a cardboard box-heavy version of L.A.)?

My faith in a Supreme Being has been restored!

The Office season 5, and 30 Rock season 3 have both just been added to the TV section.

Thanks! I queued up all of the MST3k episodes for some late night coding I'm going to do tonight. Can't wait to watch the LaserBlast one as that was my favorite "Bad scifi" movie as a kid.

Anyone watch the British series "Jekyll"? Any good?

It's fantastic. The first episode is a little slow but keep watching. The guy that plays Jekyll is impressive. I wish it had made it past 1 season as it was very good.

Maybe it has something to do with the encoding, but the "First Rocketship to Venus" episode I watched last night looked HORRIBLE-- really grainy and kind of jerky. Thought it might have been my connection, but I played an HD episode of 30 ROCK immediately after and it seemed perfectly fine.

I'm enjoying the British crime drama "Wire in the Blood" but be warned, the first season, especially the first episode are very graphic. It gets toned down a bit the next season, but definitely not something to let the kids watch, or any angsty teenagers.

I concur. It is wonderfully done and the lead actor is top-notch. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I've had this series in my "Q" for a while now, as I tend to enjoy James Nesbitt's work. One of these days...

BTW, that IMDB link is wrong.
