You bastards! I knew something cool was happening in Wisconsin...damn.

Are you surprised that it involved self-destructive ingestion habits?

Anyone passing through Portland should try a breakfast place called the Screen Door.

They serve a side called "Praline Bacon," which involves the foods in the name covered in a decadent maple syrup... If I've ever found a food approaching holiness, that was it.

Candied?

I question that every time I go Drive-In at the local Cluckin' Bell.

Anyone know how to successfully wrap a filet in bacon? I've been trying this for a little while but the bacon always manages to fall off, thus allowing me to eat bacon but still, I would like to know how to keep that bacon wrapped around a steak.

Wrap it around and insert a toothpick. There's a bit more to it, but an illustrated cookbook is better for that. I recommend the test kitchen cookbook.

I need a link to that cookbook!

Clicky

Does anyone really still make it in a pan?

For my money, the best bacon (crispy, straight, etc.) is just the pre-cooked microwave bacon you buy in the grocery store. Sure, I know there are a million other better ways to make it, but these things get the job done (esp. when all I want are 3 strips to put on a sandwich).

And every time this kind of thread comes up, someone always goes on about clogged arteries, it'll kill you, etc. Looking at the nutritional information, I don't see what the big deal is. Yes, it has cholesterol, and a majority of calories come from fat... it's also pretty high on the soduim charts, but it's not like you're eating lard with a spoon.

I make it in a pan sometimes. But other times I press it down between two heavy baking sheets, smothered in maple syrup, and toss it in the oven for 30 minutes.

And what are you supposed to eat lard with? Your hands? There's a thing where I come from called manners.

you and I are very different people.

I make it in the microwave. A corrugated plastic pan with grooves to pull the fat away from the bacon.

Today I had bacon.

Likewise... in large part because of this thread.

Sweet. Bacon in Mac & Cheese(Homemade kind only, leave that boxed crap at the store) is also awesome.

By the way this morning I wrapped sizzling bacon around my swiss cheese croissant- perfection.

I make bacon in a pan. Then, keep some of the bacon grease in the pan and crack a couple eggs in there for some Dirty Scrambled Eggs.

This is an important part of that god-body joke you like, I presume.

You mean there are other ways to make bacon and eggs?

I have a GREAT bacon appetizer recipe.

Ingredients:

1 bag pitted dates.
1 container cream cheese.
1 bag roasted almonds.
1 package of bacon.
Toothpicks.

Directions:

Preheat over to 350 degrees.

Open the dates and the almonds. Stuff a whole almond into the middle of each date. Since the dates are pitted, there should be handy holes to stuff the almonds into, making it pretty easy.
Open the bacon package, cut the bacon in half.
Spread cream cheese on one side of each piece of bacon.
Wrap the dates with the bacon, cream cheese side inward. Stab the toothpicks into the side to keep the bacon from unrolling. Leave the toothpicks sticking out to assist in the eating process later.
Place the bacon-wrapped dates on a baking sheet and place in the over for 10-15 minutes, until the bacon is at your desired level of crispy-ness.
Let cool for a couple minutes and then enjoy.

Not my picture, but they should look pretty much like this (except that picture doesn't seem to have the cream cheese, which is critical):

Also, for a bit of a spicier appetizer, substitute jalapeno peppers cut in half for the dates.

AV Club has a taste-test of Baconnaise up.

Serengeti I love you. I am having a party this weekend and that recipe sounds Bacotastic.

That is truly erotic.

Is it just me or have i just learned to never eat bacon from or around t0W?

It may not be as good as your dates and bacon but adding bacon to your roast chicken dinners is great!

From my sister's birthday - chilli and pepper on the bacon which was on a chicken covered in chilli and pepper and in 500ml chicken stock stuffed with onion and garlic. It was really nice.... plus, crispy bacon! It's like having bacon pork scratchings - with less fat!

One is glad to be of service.

Until all meals contain bacon in some form or other.... not enough!

Bacon is the essential essence of a modern individualistic life.

The quality of bacon on display there and in his ultimate bacon sandwich really shocks me.... please tell me that there is better quality bacon available over there for you. I know my Uncle always complains about there being no proper bacon in Canada but i always assumed that, what with all the bacon-loving going on in this thread, you had good bacon.... now i fear the worst. I already know that in the continental EU they have a poor understanding of what true bacon is... please don't tell me that more of the world is all the poorer for not having real bacon.
