Hey fight fans. The UFC app for xbox live is available. The ad on the front page says we can order the Lesner v Overeem fight for free. Might be worth looking into.

I watched the last UFC fight via the XBox UFC app. Was really, really good. Out of a 2 hour show, it only hiccuped maybe half a dozen times for about 1/2 a second each time.

If you were looking to grab it for free, no luck. It has sold out.

Yeah give away 25000 free ones in the middle of the day. Way to f*ck the working man over UFC/Microsoft.

Lesner picked a good time to leave. If he would have continued much longer, all his meals would have been in smoothie form for the rest of his life.

One of the better cards I've seen in a while.

UFC 140 last monto was better IMO. As for Brock Lesnar, he left at a good time. I don't think that there will be anyone that has his combination of speed and power in the Octagon anytime soon. The world of MMA is a better place for him having taken part.

Mario Yamasaki did screw up that DQ call, but Rogan is way out of line publicly calling him out like that, in that moment. Later fine. To question him in the ring immediately after the official decision....No

I agree - it was very WWE-ish for them to question the ref immediately after the match like that - didn't like that one bit.

We were able to score a free "PPV Ticket" for the XBox Ufc app for this card and I must say that I was impressed! The video quality was very good (we were only allowed to buy the SD version), but there were no issues with the video or sound - unlike the issues they had with the last attempt. The app/service definately shows some great potential.

I *think* (I may be wrong) that whether they let you buy the HD or SD quality stream all depends on how goo the connection between you and the UFC servers are. It may be auto-detected.

You're right. It does a speed test and ours will test ok for HD about 80% of the time (have UVerse 25/4 internet, so should be fine for HD). When I went to claim free tix, I tried the test a few times and wound up with SD and decided I'd just get that before the free tickets ran out. I'd imagine that if they're doing a free ticket promo the increased traffic spike may affect your ability to test OK for the HD feed.

Like I said before, I was VERY impressed with the video quality for SD - so much so, that if I order thru the app again, I would prob just pick SD and save the $10 (If I'm not able to score the free tix.) Also, they allow you to re-watch the stream for up to 24-hours after the fights air, so it works just like if you bought it on DTV (and didn't DVR it).

The stream I watched (140, when it was still in beta) was awesome. Out of an almost 3-hour event, I only had a total of about a second of voice/video mismatch, where it needed to buffer or something like that, and my connection speed is:

Barboza's spinning heel kick was absolutely awesome. Textbook KO. Up there with Jones' wall running and Silva's front snap kick KO.

I am looking forward to getting home and trying the new demo.

Tried the demo out last night - played the Pride mode - really enjoyed the old school Pride intro's and announcers. Gameplay appeared to be solid, with some tweaks to submissions being the most drastic (that I saw in the few matches I played). The UI and presentation ranged from decent to great (Pride intros, again). Did find a bug - was beating the snot out of Wand and they stopped the fight to allow the doctors to check him out...heard some dialog from the announcers, then the fighters just stood there. Couldn't do anything but reset the machine. I'm hoping this is more of a bug with the demo and not indicative of the build quality in the final product.

Okay, I don't know what fight those judges were watching, but it clearly wasn't the same one I saw. 30-27 for Sonnen? Bullfeces. The fix was in.

I agree completely. The 3rd round was Sonnen, but the first two - while very close - seemed to be dominated by Bisping. It is very telling that usually after controversial decisions, Dana White is one of the first to get out in front of it and say that he thought the judges were wrong. None of that this time.

Dana said he thought Bisping won the fight.

I didn't see that in the post-fight stuff I read/watched. If he did, then that makes it a bit less suspicious - but still - no way that is a 30-27 fight.

This link just came across my twitter feed, and I just lost the last 2 hours watching various videos.

http://www.youtube.com/user/GracieBr...

A couple of the Gracies, after UFC events, go and break down the various cool stuff that they see, step by step sometimes.

To me, who is the very definition of uninitiated and un-knowledgeable, it looks very cool.

That's really interesting. Good catch.

So not exactly related to MMA, but I was in my hotel room last night flipping through the channels and came across WWE Raw. I haven't watched this stuff since I was in 8th grade, but I decided to watch a match (happened to be a Champion vs Champion match between the WWE and Heavyweight champs). How in the hell can anyone watch this crap after having seen MMA?

I will try to describe the most stupid of moves that I saw (not including anything to do with the using the ropes). The heavyweight champ (HC) grabbed the hand of the WWE champ (WC) and started wrenching his wrist backward. Apparently this really, really hurt as it prevented the WC from trying to defend himself in any way (like punching the HC in his completely unprotected face). It also made him fall to his knees, at which point the HC started wrenching his arm behind/above his head. The WC is now laying on the ground with his palm on the ground and his elbow in the air (the rest of his body doing nothing). The HC lets go of his arm (WC does nothing, keeps it in the same position) and stomps on his elbow. I, a weak, fat, slow, untrained blob of goo, could have done more to protect myself than the WC (and self-proclaimed best wrestler in the world). Stupid. Just stupid.

You mean like this Ric Flair specialty?

If you are watching WWE (or TNA or any other federation) and are expecting realism and believability, then you are doing it oh so very wrong. Those programs are designed and scripted to entertain. Going into them and expecting realism is like watching The A-Team (movie or TV show) and being amazed MR T always drank the drugged milk before they needed to take a plane or that Hannibal's plans always worked.

I saw it here in Ariel Helwani's post fight interview with Sonnen.

So, I'm off to Vegas tomorrow for UFC 143, any other GWJers going to be there?

Not going, but if you make it in time, be sure to check out the weigh-ins and then look for the UFC Fight Club party afterwards. Both tend to be much more fun than you'd expect. Especially in Vegas.

Okay, I'm back from UFC 143 and it was great. We had good seats and were able to watch ~90% of the fighting without having to look at the big screens (only needed to look when they were up against certain parts of the cage and/or behind a camera man) - Section 208 in Mandalay Bay for future reference.

The main event was great. When it started out you had about 60-70% rooting for Diaz and chants of "Diaz, Diaz" in the first round and then into the second, with occassional chants of "Condit, Condit", and then the Diaz supporters basically went silent.

Great technical fight from Condit.

And as Diaz is giving his little "I'm gonna retire" speech, all these people shouting "Don't be scared, homie." Good times.

And man, can Roy Nelson take a beating.

I've always liked Condit. I find him to be a very heady fighter who does what he needs to do to win. Highly technical and knows how to keep the fight where he wants it.

Other folks dog him for being a "boring" fighter, but generally, they just don't know how to watch fights and want to see folks flailing with haymakers.

We went to last year's Super Bowl event at Mandalay and sat in the same section! I tend to prefer sitting a bit above the cage vs on the floor looking up at the action.

Did you make it to any of the UFC sponsored parties/events? Those are usually a great time.

Oh, and Big Country needs to lose a ton of weight. He'd be truly dominant at his appropriate weight class and he's setting himself up for a beating related case of Parkinsons if he doesn't cut this crap out.
