Interesting interview with Brock Lesnar by Jim Rome.

When Brock says that he does not know who Chael Sonnen is, I believe him. It is amazing that a person could be in such a high place in that company and not at least be somewhat aware of Sonnen. His fight with Silva was one of the biggest events of the year for Zuffa. You would think that their heavyweight champ would be a little more engaged. It's is not required, but I am aware of the happening of the company I work for even when they do not directly involve me.

I read some interviews with Cain's trainers. They are definitely saying the right things to avoid pissing off Brock. Summarized - "We don't think that Brock will run out of energy, we aren't stronger, and are probably not faster. Brock is an amazing athlete, and very hard to train for. We need to be technically better than Brock."

Chael is a loudmouth who is in the fight of his life to stay relevant after his juicing revelation. Of course he is going to pick a public fight with Brock Lesnar in order to keep in front of the cameras. Good on Lesnar for not giving it to him.

tito v hammel fight...boring. I am tired of both of them. If the UFC were to cut them, I would not miss them.

Shields walking out. It looks like that weight cut hit him hard.

Now, I don't watch UFC much (because I cannot afford it), but am I correct in stating that Brock Lesnar was punched repeatedly in the face?

Repeatedly.

He may have lost the fight, but he surely won the dance off...

That was not the outcome I was expecting.

Definitely not. And in the first round, not to mention. I figured it would take a couple of rounds for Cain to wear down on Lesnar.

I didn't think Cain would be able to get up off the ground as easily as he did. I thought for sure that Lesnar with his wrestling, size and strength would be able to keep Cain down once he got him there.

He should have kept Greg Nelson as his striking coach.

I haven't had a chance to see it, but from what I have read, Lesnar came out guns blazing, like he was trying to end it in the first 30 seconds. How likely is it that it caused him to lose later on??

Lesnar looked like he was in a Toughman competition. Horribly looping overhead strikes and poor takedowns that relied on power over technique. Honestly, I think something was wrong with him. He looked so out of control it was a little embarassing for the UFC.

It was...odd. He came in pouring on the strikes but Cain didn't even seem affected by them. Really is not what I expected.

Cain's striking was ridiculously accurate. If you watch the flurry after Brock does his dance move, he lands every shot right on the button.

He wasn't particularly accurate with his striking and his inability to sidestep when he got in trouble pretty much guaranteed that he was going to end up on the ground once he got rocked. Definitely territory that would have been covered with a striking coach.

Velasquez was definitely ready for the fight. I just thought Lesnar would do a much better job of keeping him down on the ground once he got him there. He got the takedown early. He just couldn't keep him down.

The UFC will merge with the WEC in 2011.

Awesome.

Yes, definitely awesome. Some of the best match-ups I've seen have been in WEC. As long as they don't lose that. I'm happy.

Now the little guys can finally get the paydays they deserve and with 2 new belts it'll be much easier to have title fights on every PPV.

The only real downside is the loss of all those awesome free WEC cards.

Agreed. Hopefully there will be more cards in general. Perhaps more free fight events. The WEC did give people an opportunity to see great fights for free. If the fights were on a more popular network maybe this merger would not be happening. I will enjoy seeing my favorite fighters fight on a bigger stage, but a lot of people will loose the ability learn about the sport with great fights at no cost.

So picks for the upcoming UFC 122?

I'm taking Marquardt over Okami. I don't think Okami will be able to match up to the striking of Marquardt, which was how he beat Munoz.

I'm not sure about Sakara-Rivera. I'm not sure that Rivera has that much left in the gas tank at his age, but we'll see.

Andre Winner over Siver. Siver has questionable cardio.

Peter Sobotta is the sacrificial lamb to let Amir Sadollah bounce back from his recent loss. This one's going to decision, I'm sure.

Couldn't tell you about K-Sos v. Reljic. Haven't seen Reljic fight if I recall.

Is anyone else watching TUF? Josh Koscheck is coming off as a complete and utter douchebag, terrible coach, and general poor excuse for a human being. I hope GSP pulls his arms off like the wings of a Thanksgiving turkey.

I know it is probably wrong, but I actually enjoyed watching his buddy Mark get choked out by the very same guillotine choke for a second time just because of his association with Koscheck.

Oh I'm watching it and it has been so much better than previous ones! Koschek is so clueless it is comedy gold. That Mark guy... I sort of feel bad for him but it was so funny! I'd like to think Josh is acting, playing a heel but I think you're right he is a douchebag.

Paleocon wrote:

Not really. I've caught a few minutes here and there, but I feel like I'm watching reruns.

I know editing can do a lot to shape someone's personality on TV, but Koscheck is coming off like a typical school bully.

I really hope GSP teaches him a lesson again.

I don't really see anyway that Kos can win this fight. GSP just seems to be too dominant.

Honestly, all I want to see from that fight is for GSP to actually finish him. And it will be even sweeter if it's Koscheck.

That said, don't forget that UFC 122 is free on Spike this weekend, and that WEC 52 is free on Versus Thursday night.

Yup. Koscheck reminds me of some one kid on my high school's wrestling team in particular. I keep telling folks that I wouldn't cross the street to piss on him if he were on fire. I sort of feel the same way about Koscheck. The whole "I don't want to get beat by a nerd" statement really made it easy to pick who I wanted to win and how (22 seconds in the first round from a guillotine choke).

Last night's episode was a perfect example of the difference in class between the two coaches and two teams. Nam may very well be the classiest fighter on Koscheck's team and he still came off as an ass at the end of his fight. Koscheck gloating over a fight his team clearly should have won, clearly HAD to win felt a bit like a linebacker celebrating after a touchdown saving tackle that still resulted in a first down conversion (only sillier). Brookings' consoling of Sako, otoh, was possibly the classiest moment in the entire season.

Brookins looks really good. He threw the guy with years of Judo experience like Jon Jones would. Very impressive.

Bruce Leroy getting beat is inevitable. I really just don't see where in his game he can beat the Johnson fellow who's first name I can't remember.

Anyone watch UFC 122 this weekend? I thought the card was fairly good all around, but I am disappointed that Jorge Rivera didn't get to fight.

Once again, Koscheck demonstrates just how much of a self absorbed dick he is. His fighter was clearly unprepared or improperly prepared for his fight and all he can do is blame his fighter (again) for getting submitted (again) by a rear naked choke (again).

Jeez. I hope he gets destroyed in spectacular fashion.
