WAR: Catch all

I had to pry myself from the screen to stop playing last night, it was too much fun. I couldn't really get into the beta characters because I knew in the back of my mind it was all going to be wiped, but this was a different story.

Got my lil' Gobby Shammy to 7.5 last night before I called it. Read every single line of text in the quests, every single Tome entry, etc - it feels good not to rush through it. Damn those Stuntys! They fits in barrels good..

I have to admit, it was weird going into one of the areas, seeinga bunch of Dwarfs (players) and realizing they couldn't attack me because I wasn't flagged, but soon enough the next area for questing it was guiding me towards was an open RvR field, so I can kinda see the direction it's going. Not totally open PvP but definitely not PvE.

I tried my Humie Witch Hunter for about 10 minutes before I couldn't stand it, I had to go back to the evil side! Those humans were too clean and nice.

Anyway, I can't wait till we assemble a massive army of Goodgers (and CP'ers) and just go to town on some unsuspecting fools. Healing in the Scenarios was a very good time, I wish I had a knockback at this level but that will come soon enough I'm sure.

Waaaaggh!

You'll quit in about 6 weeks! If you're still playing in 2 months I might just jump on board!

To aid Ran in updating the initial post if need be, here's the current consolidated Volkmar Destruction character list based on posts here and other threads, together with whether or not you can actively add them to friends lists (i.e. have they actually logged into the game as that character yet as of time of this post):

GWJ/CP characters who can be friend added:

Crumble
Drakon
Eldrund
Fervor
Icaria
Jacko
Morgane
Nephlokan
Proteus
Skry
Tyrias
Zaharen

GWJ/CP characters who have yet to log in:

Edstompa
Jozak
Panzer
Rastus
Skogul

Spelling fix - Tyrias -> Tyrius

Thanks and see you all in WAR

Although the former is actually the name of my Magus who I hope to play at some point

I think I'll still be here, I have tried all the MMOs as of late and this one just had a good feel to it... I played WoW off and on since launch and while I will most likely get the expansion it will be a more casual game for me as it is still the same game, new content but at the end of the day it just feels like more of the same. I also like pvp a lot and the BGs got nothing on RvR.

Very doubtful, the PvP is more fun than in WoW and feels like a solid game of TF2 (fun factor wise), so as long as it scratches that killin' itch I forsee an indefinite sub. And unlike AoC or early WoW, there's just so much to do it's nuts. I love coming right out of a scenario and I'm smack in the middle of a Public Quest

I think the true test will be how the team handles the game post launch. If we see a steady stream of updates (that don't break things) and plans for new content, I'll be a happy camper.

You filthy enablers....my will is breaking.

Wired so far hasn't jumped on board. Who else is going to keep us entertained on Vent?

Hows the crowd generally? In open beta I was finding less than 10-15 people in any given area that was past about chapter 3.

My average wait for an Order scenario was like 3 minutes
My average wait for a Destruction scenario was more like 10-15 minutes

Im curious how the real deal (day 2) compares.

Ok, a few questions.
1. Are there any rep/faction/XP or other grinds? I'm tired of grinds. I'm tired of having to spend an absurd amount of time to accomplish anything.
2. Is this the type of game you can log into for a couple of hours, have a blast and log out without feeling guilty?

I'm having some major challenges with WoW right now. Every upgrade seems to require me to run another dungeon 3-4 times or kill some stupid ass mob ad naseum for a ridiculous drop. Raids require me to commit to 3-4 hours of time so I can pray that we get the right class balance. And dailys, OH MY GOD the tedium of dailys just so I can have enough money for the next raid, next item, next level of rep! I just can't take it anymore..............

Count me in for this one. I must be crazy adding an MMO given my somewhat limited gaming time, but I had a blast in the beta and the RvR/PvP is very nice. I'll be in on Tuesday on Volkmar. Probably be playing a Black Orc to start. Looking forward to seeing GWJ-powered RvR.

I can't seem to find it, what's Control Point's website specifically for the WAR Guild.. or is there one?

So this comes out tomorrow? What's the best way to get a copy? Box from a store or are there digital purchase options out there?

The last couple of days of beta some of us went back to our Destruction toons on Todbringer and queues were pretty snappy. The Ekrund and Nordenwatch scenarios were 1-3min and a few instant queues.

Bear:

1. For the entire Open beta (levels 1-12 is the range I experienced) I didn't grind once. There was never a case I didn't have a quest I could do instead to level. The quests themselves aren't too grindy either. You rarely have a straight kill quest that says 'Kill 20 X'. Its usually 3 - 5 with a named guy thrown in.

If you don't want to run quests you can jump into a scenario or RVR zone and the XP there is adiquite. I found you'd max your renown from them way before you'd get a full xp rank though, so that discouraged just constantly running scenarios (we were winning a lot)

No factions in this game or any other pointless game-extenders that I'm aware of. Even crafting is supposedly designed to not be grindy, I haven't played much with that though.

2. WAR is definitely an instant gratification game. I had a few play sessions of only a half hour and had plenty of fun in that time. Many parts of the design point towards the possibility that the makers want you to enjoy the game in small bursts. Scenarios are 15 minutes, Public quests are approximately 15 minutes, Instanced dungeons are apparently designed with checkpoints so you can pick back up in the middle to continue it later...

Walt: You can check out Direct 2 Drive and see if they're still offering the head start with purchase. They should be. EA store might be the same. Otherwise at this point you're probably stuck waiting for Thursday and the official retail launch of the game.

Choice is yours my friend.

I'm probably going to cave but it's going to be a while. I'd like to take a couple of weeks and use it as a "wait and see" period. With the amount of work stuff I've got going on it's probably better anyway.

If the servers are stable and it's not a crash/lag fest ala WoW 1.0 I'll probably jump in.

I've played across all tiers... the only grind (if you want to call it that) is raising your renown rank so you can buy the renown (pvp) gear. Still this is done by killing other players. In fact you dont really notice it until mid 20's.

This is the best MMO i've seen that allows quick play. If you only have a couple hours you can just go out and do some quests. Even better are the Public Quests. During this time you can also join in some Scenarios. You can also run into some open world RvR and bang some heads until it's time to go. All of these are rewarding.

Money at least as it stands from beta is relative easy to obtain. You need 30g at level 20. Without even trying by level 10 i was close to 4g. You have some gathering skills that will help and of course the normal auction house play can get ya up there pretty easily.

Sweet! It'll be nice to have ya along!

Thanks, I'll register on there too. I'm assuming we'll keep all the hardcore discussion over there so as not to clog this section.

This is freakin cool.

Apparently there's a dryad deep in Ostland (some Destruction zone) that will provide a special tome unlock upon killing her, at least for Order characters, not sure about destruction. The trip to get to her involves a genuine journey.

The Tome unlock will give you a sweet black cloak if you visit the librarian in the capital.

That there's cool stuff like that in the game is so sweet.

Edit: Just to further enable on-the-fencers. A link to key features people love about WAR, according to one of the devs. These are off-the-box features like no item decay.

There's supposed to be dozens of creatures like these. I'm excited about getting them all.

I am picking this up tonight.

I have no idea what I am going to play just yet

Does this game have a class that worships a big space alien and I can morph into it's avatar every 2 minutes?

No but there's the squigg herder. Your pet can eat you and you'll control it from the inside, running around in a deadly little ankle-biter.

Or the murderous pilgrim-lookalike of a Witch Hunter who will burn a whole village of the innocent just to get at the evil hidden within, all in the name of Sigmar (god)... and he's one of the goodguys.

The characters are plenty wild

Add me to Destruction on Volkmar. Eldrund Chaos Marauder. I also have a character on Iron Rock but can't remember the name off hand.

polypusher wrote:

Holy crap, we need to do this! (if we can on Destro that is..)

Bear, all of the complaints about WoW that you mentioned are end-game complaints. I think it's a bit too soon for people to say if Warhammer has the same problems. Of course they will say there is no grind, you can get stuff done in an hour, etc... you can say the same about WoW leveling.

LeapingGnome wrote:

Well the endgame is different in Warhammer. Yea there's some dungeons you can raid, but the focus of the game is the RvR. The grind if you want to call it that is the back/forth fighting you're having to do to capture/defend the capital cities.

Some people will like it others wont. It's definitely safe to say that it's different than WoW.
