Lookie who did the music (which btw was awesome)

Sorry if this was previously posted.

Interesting.. he's going for something that has been talked about here before.. creating MMOG servers that have a far smaller scope of player base (200) with the idea that a smaller amount of players will result in a more consistent player driven world.

Obviously this is way early.. so who knows.. but its something that bears watching.

There might have been a mention of it in passing but not an actual thread for it that i know of. Definitely deserving of one!

This has serious potential, and something i've been trying to keep tabs on.

Thanks, man!

Yeah, I wish I knew more about the game, but Eskil doesn't tell me much. "It looks really cool" is pretty much all I have to offer.

Very interesting. That's the first I've seen of it but looks like a very cool concept.

First thing on the to do list for this game would be a name change and quick!

I like the name but I don't grasp what exactly the point of the game will be. It seems there is perhaps some building and some massive battles but that doesn't tell us much.

It's really ambitious. Jim Rossignol has a pretty good write up from this year's GDC:

The game itself, dubbed Love (as in For The Love Of Game Development), is an exploration-based moderately-multiplayer FPS with astounding impressionistic visuals and a procedurally generated universe. Since Steenberg is a one man show, he’s relying on clever maths to build the world for him and then clever gamers to come in and help him figure out where to take it, and what to do with it.

So far he’s already populated it with weird animals and wondrous, gaseous visuals, and he intends to build the world into a kind of communal adventure, where gamers work together to furnish a central village, defend it from enemy attack, and explore the surrounding world and its many dungeons. Players will be able to do things like deform elements of terrain, allowing them to build tunnel networks or walls to defend their property. Items will also be intended for the good of all as Steenberg creates them and drops them into the world. You won’t be picking up rifles in your adventures, but more likely the plans for the rifle-building machine, that can then be utilised by everyone in your village. Part Zelda, part Tale In The Desert, part adventure shooter, and wholly abstract and beautiful, Love looks the kind of amalgam of art, programming and internet savvy that we’ve desired without even being able to imagine. It has the potential, and Steenberg has the huge intellect, for this to be one of the most precious events in PC gaming.

They were going nuts over the music when I read the thread on this yesterday over on GAF, was that you Podunk?

Looks like a pretty cool game, I hope it surfaces in a nice fashion.

Whoa, sweet, I should go read that!

Loved the music Podunk. Watching the trailer I just couldn't wait to come back to GWJ and rave about the music, then I saw it was you and I was blown away.

Is this that semi-experimental piece you were talking about a while back?

Yes, I think so. Glad you liked it! I've worked up a few pieces for Eskil and the trailer music is actually the third revision of the first piece I gave him.

I put it up for download if anyone's interested. It's slightly less cool without the beautiful visuals, though.

Can I join the Podunk fan club?

We can call ourselves 'dunkers and stalk you at your home and favorite hangouts.

I vote we call ourselves po'pers, and bum around his house and favourite hangouts.

Been keeping an eye on this, seems like forever now. I'm a little put aback to see that now it has FPS elements to it, or any combat, really. The Love theme doesn't really mesh with that. I always thought it was going to turn out to be more exploratory, creation-based.

Fantastic music.

I think the overall idea is still to focus on that.. but with the realization (and probably rightfully so) that without some sort of "combat" the game would eventually turn into a bore with little mass appeal. Obviously at this point its still little more than a tech demo and pulling off anything procedural in an MMOG (even one limited to 200 people) is going to be an immense challenge to not end up with a complete mess once one griefer figures out a way to screw the game for everyone else.

I dont see this being some sort of big budget 1 million sub+ game.. but perhaps a niche product more along the lines of Eve. The real "hope" here is that even if its only pulled off moderately well it gives the big boys a different view of what can be done in an MMOG and thus the "gameplay" flows up to them for their next projects.

Read an update on RPS this morning and watched the videos, and, whoa, holy cow.
The gameplay itself doesn't look that interesting to me. What really got my blood going was watching the tools video. That's some amazing stuff there. My jaw just hit the floor wondering how that all worked. Now I've spent my entire work morning reading his network protocol specification, and just going through his site and being amazed.

The tools video looks totally kick ass!

Me likey... me wanty now!

Damn being at work and not being able to check this out! I will have a look as soon as I get home, if only for Podunk's music. Though having said that, from the descriptions the game itself sounds fascinating too.

Love is finally out of beta, and is now €10 for 30 days. Is anyone going to take a stab at it?

I'm in Scratched. No idea why but I've heard the programmer on a couple of podcasts and he seems really interesting as does the game so I'm going to give it a shot. I'm at work now but will be ordering up a copy tonight.

Just bought it. Hope it's fun, but I'm really paying to support the 1-man-orchestra effort behind the sole developer of the engine and game.

I'd like to read some solid impressions of the game. While the idea intrigues me I have no idea how well it's actually executed.

Cooperative city builder? Or traditional MMO adventure game?

Dwarf Fortress MMO? I'd love to see a quicklook of this game before jumping in. If you have impressions, please post em

Cooperative city builder + super fast Quake style co-op FPS. There's really nothing else out there like it.

There are some nice perks that go along with referring a friend when you join the game.

So is there a monthly fee and if so what is it?

Form the link above:

The voucher costs 10 Euro (VAT included) and will give you 30 days of access to the game servers.

So is anyone actively playing this?

I am. I play on UK1 and Atlantis1

Nice! I never got around to playing it. I'll have to give it a shot.
