Cool...1st come, 1st serve!

Crap. I've got to get up really, ridiculously early tomorrow, so the only way i'm going to manage get a game in before Friday night is if anyone's on today, between say 6:00 PM and 8:00 or so. Eastern Standard.

Prederick, we can always play Friday night. I'll get in my game with frankie tonight.

Firesloth we can also play the tournament game too if you want

Sorry, ruthless, I wasn't sure I'd be up long enough for another game. I was even a bit fatigued after the tense game with frankie! Stupid Mackey.

A word of warning. One thing Ertic and I discovered was that 10 minute quarters really is way too long. Part of the problem was that he got out to such a huge lead, that the rest of the game felt like it took forever to end. So if you were questioning staying up, know that it would have been a long game.

Yea those 10 minute quarters were a bit taxing. Definitely have to cut it down to 8, maybe even 7

I'll leave it to you guys to figure out the right balance. We can then decide, of course, if we want to experiment with bumping it up. I passed for 4,000 yards in 10 games last season, so I don't think stats are a problem.

The problem is really balance. The game really does lead to inflated passing stats. Our scores and passing stats were inflated, but the number plays we run are way down. When I m successful running the ball, I can easily take more than a quarter on a single drive. And I am not letting the clock run. It's very rare for a team to get 20 carries in 6 minute quarters. Maybe seven or eight.

The thing is, once we get down to under two minutes in the half, that's when stats really explode. So maybe a bit more time in the meat of the halves will balance out the stats.

But overall, it is not broken. I'm just talking about tweaking.

Oh, even if it was somewhat broken I wouldn't personally take offense.

We all decided on the rules. I'm simply saying that as always I'm happy to hear what others are experiencing in terms of tweaks that we could make to the league. The draft wasn't my idea. Not sure whose it was. But I believe it's been the best thing to happen to the league. Similarly, we could definitely learn something about quarter length, etc. I agree that balance is the main problem, but I'm not sure it's a function of time. Last night I passed for like 220 and rushed for 200 yards. The difference was that I attempted to run the ball and tried to stick with it. I was fortunate to be involved in a game where I didn't need to play from behind.

My current running theory is that if we have enough teams draft for defense and running games (3 teams essentially did that this year, opting for bronze QBs) there's a chance the pass-happy league balances out as teams with a Reggie White find success against teams that usually put up gaudy numbers. I hate to make my personal experience a microcosm for the league, but what Frankie has done (I'll withhold judgment on the others that drafted Bronze QBs until I play them) is the template for how things might balance themselves out naturally. He controlled the game against me because his offense was just good enough and his defense kept me in check. You look at my stats last season and I had a 600 yard game, a 500 yard game. It was ridiculous. Frankie kept me in check, largely. And I personally am going to be drafting in that direction next season. Don't be shocked if my first two picks next season are gold and one's a HB and one's a FS. Seriously.

Anyway, I think 7 minute quarters would probably be good. 8 might be pushing it. Either way, though, I think balance is already coming to the league. And it's coming by way of savvy players in the league who have learned how to live with Bronze QBs and spend those golds and silvers on defenses that will have those of us with high-flying offenses grounded. Time will tell, of course. It's early in the season. But my guess is that we've already begun to see the beginning of a change in the league that will lead to more balance.

Prederick and I got in our WEEK 1 game tonight, which I won 42-28 on a lot of Barry Sanders (138 yards rushing) and some nice play from Hebert (14/17 for 210 yards, 3TDs).

Great moment at the beginning of the game -- on Prederick's first drive, Gale Sayers broke free for a 16 yard run. As he was nearing the endzone with some of my defenders a bit behind him, Prederick dives and Gale...well, he reaches the ball out of bounds at about the 1 yard line. Prederick says "Wouldn't it suck if this comes back to bite me." At which point, his QB drops back, is hit by one of my defensive lineman, and Will Wood scoops up the ball for a 92 yard TD scamper. Nice. Very nice.

My Sparrows went up 28-7 on his S's, but he had a nice heave of a 58 yard TD throw as the first half ran out to bring it to 28-14. I scored on the first drive of the second half, but Prederick came back to within 7, in part on a nasty fumble by Eric Green. In the end I was able to pull away.

Fun game.

The schedule is rolled to Week 2. Two more games and we can roll it to week 3. I'll start a week 3 thread now.
