Far Cry 2 Catch-All

They don't sleep, but they want to sleep—they're less alert at night. They're also less alert at midday when it's hottest IIRC.

You can drive through some roadblocks if you can avoid getting snagged on clutter. Also, don't forget about the rivers and the bus fast travel system.

No, they don't. Getting tired of repetitive attacks is a sign to pause and take a step back.

Remember to use boats and buses as well as off-road travel. Although buses mean fewer diamonds.

My thoughts on FC3:
Far Cry 3 was two games for me. One was a decent GTA-style open world game with 1,000,000 things to do screaming at your eyes on the map, some fun, some not-so-fun, and some annoying bullsh*t upgrade crafting crap. The other game was a white American male power fantasy game with a loathesome protagonist that has to rescue his 1%er whiney douchebag friends.

I quit it about halfway through.

I can put up with a lot in videogames but FC3 was just distasteful to me (I am also long past the target demographic for it, which is fine). The fun of taking out an outpost or finding Japanese WWII ruins was eclipsed by the need to constantly craft, hunt, collect, and watch cut scenes.

I have not played FC4. If it ever gets below my "what the hell" Steam sale price I may pick it up.

Here's a great video talking about the difference between Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 3/4 (though he focuses on 4). He gets what is brilliant about 2.

My favorite comment he makes is "Far Cry 2 is Apocalypse Now while Far Cry 4 is Tropic Thunder"

I tried this game a while back. Got into the hut where I'd told to heal up and once I did that the "okay you're done healing" trigger never fired and I was stuck there with no way out. Uninstalled the game after about 30 minutes of trying to get out of the damn hut and failing. I suppose I should give this another try though.

It's funny. I'm loving Far Cry 4 for all the reasons stated and only got about a 1/3rd the way through far Cry 2. For all the reasons stated.

I guess I'm looking to be in an action movie when I play these kind of games

I really need to give FC4 another try as well. The mouse acceleration was so extreme at launch that I found the game unplayable. But the game itself seemed pretty decent.

Fair enough -- we're all looking for different things. However, I'll take this as an excuse to link my favorite piece of writing about FC2, reflecting the things that I found so amazing about it. (Which does mention trying to play FC2 like an action movie and why it doesn't work.)

Nice article, Dixie! Thanks fi sharing.

Finished this morning. Major thanks again to Gravey for this during the Steam Holiday Sale. I don't know if I've played a game that made me feel the sense of place captured as well as it is here (even if it's exaggerated, I felt I was in this place while playing).

Held off watching this until completing FC2. I'll admit there were several times I wished for a fast travel system. Based on the information in this video, FC2 looks like the more immersive, specifically because of its choice of systems to implement.

The fire! When I first noticed it spreads after launching a molotov, I was very impressed!

How about when you notice it spread after firing a rocket because you start taking damage from behind which is weird because there's no one behind you oh crap the hill is on fire I just set this hill on fire crap crap crap crap craaaaaap

Glad you enjoyed it!

There is a fast travel system. Just go to the maps at the bus stations. There is also a slow travel system where you head out to some remote location, throw a Molotov at the bad guys and then realise that you just burnt out every vehicle in the area including the one you arrived in.

Must. Resist. Urge. To. Play. Again.

Even having just finished it, I'm tempted to go through with a new character and spend more time at the bar. Barely touched those missions. I understand there are a few mods worth checking out that might smooth out some of the more complained about edges.

Gravey, I didn't use the rocket launcher enough to experience that bit of awesomeness.
