Palin with Katie Couric on CBS

Fareed Zakaria talks about Palin on CNN, following his column that slammed her.

Wow. And Zakaria is a very even handed and reasonable guy.

I think the most brutal part was when he was refuting Blitzer's suggestion that she had executive experience. Not only did Zakaria mention that she was just a mayor of a small town, but that Alaska was an unusual state, in that it gets 85% of its budget from oil revenues.

Then he said,"Basically, you are just distributing oil revenues that are being provided for you by digging holes in the ground. this is good training to be President of saudi Arabia, not the United States."

He also said that the worst of her Couric interview was not the foreign policy stuff, because that was just funny. It's her complete lack of economic understanding that scares him the most.

Despite this, 38% of people polled think she is ready to be VP.

I'm with Plato, f*ck democracy!

On CBS they had interviews with undecideds after the VP debate. One guy said Palin stayed on point more than Biden. A woman said she feels a connection to her because she's just a regular person. More on that in the Presidential Debate thread, but basically, yeah. 38% people think she's ready to be VP because they have no idea what those words mean.

That's highly ironic, considering, the biggest fear of Palin being a President is that she's going to do exactly that.

Okay I wasn't going to post this, but that comment forces my hand:

I notice that the Constitution doesn't have this provision regarding the VP job.

Cheney really has made a lot of changes.

An in McCain's help wanted ad it said "no prior experience required". Hmm.

I believe it's called "reaching across the aisle" not "reacharound the aisle"!

OK guys, this is no longer productive. Hilarious, but not productive.

Between the Rick Roll in the other thread and this, I'm rolling in my seat

Under a true Republic it would a socialistic democracy. Police and Politicians would not be allowed to own personal property and would be advised to not engage in personal relationships. Of course their sacrifice of a personally driven life would be completely voluntary and they could walk away at any time. To the people it would eliminate the fear that the interest of that individual or a powerful group would easily get in the way of the sovereignty of the whole.

I always delighted in the fact that a full democracy or republic is inherently socialistic. In fact I believe that Karl Marx in his time was speaking more about the benefit to his countrymen of an American Republic or British Parliamentary system then he was the idea of socialism to the extreme which of course was twisted into a far more repressive version of communism than even befits the word.

Plato (I would love for someone to find his voting records) would have voted for the whole in my opinion, which again is inherently socialistic but also democratic. I would love to see some Plato quotes...

The problem with Plato quotes is that his heavy use of irony makes it very, very difficult to make a case for an individual quote out of context meaning anything specific. Especially in his Socratic dialogs, he had Socrates rephrasing the statements of the other speaker in order to reveal obvious logical flaws.

When anyone quotes Plato to support an opinion, we should all take it w/ a huge grain of salt or go back and reread that particular dialog to ensure we aren't being taken for the proverbial ride.

Oh All Nine Hells...it is Robear!

Was I the only one who laughed my ass off when Tina Fey did the whole "marriage is a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers"?

You were not alone. I'm pretty sure there were a lot of "oh no she didn't" comments. Great stuff made even better because it's true.

WDVE, a Pittsburgh radio station, host to the DVE Morning Show with Jim Krenn and Randy Bauman did a song around that line this morning.
