WAR : Crafting Catch all

Your terminology is a little off there and it might be confusing:

Essences are the 'motes' analogy. There seems to be 3 steps of essences:
total garbage > garbage > useful essence

You collect a bunch of the total garbage to create garbage, then use the garbage to create a useful essence which is the component you need to complete the talisman aside from the Gold essence.

Essences come as 'scrap' from magical salvaging. You'll have a chance of the different levels of scrap from each salvaging.

Fragments are the bits extracted from magical items. You select the type you want (intelligence, str, whatever) and have a chance of drawing it out. This is the main ingredient for the talisman making and decides what bonus it will provide.

Okay, so to get Fragments, you have to find Green or higher magical items? There's no way to get fragments (or a source of fragments) from a vendor? I never played WoW so I'm unfamiliar with 'motes'.

For levels 1-50 you can buy everything you need from a vendor now (why do they bother? just start us at 50 )

fragments, containers, gold essence and essences

Here's how each is obtained otherwise (for crafting after 50):

Fragments: Extracted from Magic Items by way of Magical Salvaging skill
Containers and curios: taken by players using the Scavenging skill
Gold Essence: there was a recent change with this, I THINK it is now obtained directly via cultivation instead of a cultivation result requiring an apothecary
Magic Essence: byproduct of Magical Salvaging

poly beat me to it.

Excellent point... probably due to the MMO goal of creating timesinks, and it's a barrier to entry to make sure the crafters are in it for the crafting...?

I'm pretty sure Gold Essences can be obtained through scavenging... I don't remember seeing too many containers from scavenging though... (this could be pre-recent change though)

Oh, and the reason I'm asking about fragments, of course, is trying to level Talisman skills in the 40+ region. It's getting extremely difficult with level 1 items, but level 25 items are not easy to come by, and it doesn't sound like there's an easy place to get them...

This is totally rough estimates based on what I've seen but you don't need that high of items to get the level higher.

Levels for your items gathered, looted etc roughly correspond to a higher range of crafting loot.

take a level 1-9 mob, he'll drop a level 1 seed or a level 25 seed rarely
Scavenging a level 1-9 mob will get a similar range of other crafting items
Salvaging a 1-9 item also gets similar results.

So I guess it's tiered like the rest of the game. If the max crafting level is 200 (is it?) then it makes sense. Tier 1 in levels is 1 to 11, Tier 1 in crafting is 1-50. There's some overlap I think but you get the idea.

This explains why a salvager with a 30 in salvaging has a hard time getting good results from a level 13 item.

So the moral of the story is, if you're leveling Tier 2 of a crafting skill, your best bet is to work on Tier 2 mobs.

If you look for a RvR objective that has the Artisan buff you can get a +10 to your crafting skill and jump up to the 50+ items

Cool, I'm going to give it a shot this evening, thanks for the heads up.

Is this your Iron Rock char TheWalt? I have a bunch of lvl 25 fragments I'll give you that I've been storing up, I'm just going to give up on the crafting for now, I just dont see the use in it.

Yeah, Renir is my Talisman maker. And I haven't seen the use in it either, but I'm hoping that one day, Talismans may be worth having...

I went through about 60 level 1 talismans and gained 3 levels, so now I'm 47.

I followed ranalin's advice on the Artisan buff, but using level 25 gold dust or curios didn't get me any extra levels (crafted about 8-10 this way, either using both 25 gold dust and 25 curios (white and green) or just single level 25 components. Although the items were no longer called 'weak' talismans (I think they were described as 'inferior'), the stats were exactly the same as 100% level 1 components. I think Fragments may be the key and only key in this regard...

Yeah, I'd really like to know what determines the quality of the Talisman. Like, should I hold out to combine my Blue/Epic Curio with a Blue/Epic fragment, or will I get a big pile of crap if I only use one or the other? That kind of stuff.

Also I found the quartermaster in The Viper pit (IN IC) was selling level 40 regants for apoc, and i'm sure other trades as well (their vials are broke thou) And they also give some other neat buffs (thorns, aoe fire dot, snare, DD fire dot etc) That helped me power my apoc up to 110 or so, and then I was easily able to get to 130 after that.

I've heard that blue and purple curios change the duration of your talisman, but I haven't had a chance to test this. Supposedly, purple has no expiration.

They do.
