Boiling Point, Anyone played it?

I have been looking for some good PC RPG games to play for a while now (fighting my "hang over" from lack of HGL And trying to resist the temptation of going back to WoW AGAIN...).

So last week, I saw a sweet deal on "Boiling Point," "Heretic Kindoms: Inquistion" and got both games.
I decided to try Boiling Point first, since it is a interesting FPS/RPG. And I have to say so far, I am not disappointed. Actually, I am, disappointed, at the fact that the game didn't get much of a following and that I don't have nice gfx engine mods for it :).

Anyway, any GWJers have played the game? Any tips? Any mods that you guys used and still have it on your HDD somewhere that you don't mind sharing? (Seems that the hosts for the few mods that were made for the game have all disappeared )

thanks!

I tried it when it was first released, pre-patch which was a painful (yet often hilarious) experience and I haven't gone back to it since. I really must give it a go with the patches, as there was a lot of promise there.

I also like the fact that the main character is actually modelled after the voice actor (the bloke who played The Mummy in...er...The Mummy)

The game is pretty good - even before the patch that fixed 90% of the bugs (if you could stomach them) - and i got a fair way through the storyline before lending the game to my dad because he wanted to play it.... and then watched as he left it on his cabinet for over a year while my save games languised on my PC.

Hmmm.. Another game to re-play through again.

You know what was cool but also annoying? The song that was written for the game was really cool and had me psyched when it started playing through the install. But by the time the install had completed and the song had been played 20-30 times i was ready to strangle whoever decided to have it on a loop.

My stepdad has this. He said it was really, really buggy (he played it when it was still brand new) but he still finished it. I guess I'll have to borrow it.

It was. But it was so ambitious it became a cult hit regardless. Also, they were a very independent studio, and when I found out they had a staff of about 13 during development, it's shocking a game as huge as Boiling Point was playable at all. They're working on two new titles at the same time, but now they have a much larger team and a somewhat larger budget. Previews of White Gold (the kinda-sequel) in particular say the game in it's current state is already more polished then BP was. Between that, Far Cry 2, Crysis Warhead and STALKER: Clear Sky, it's a surprisingly great year for fans of open-ended shooters.

You are kidding me kuddles, just 13 ppl!? Wow.... I am definitely enjoying the game. It really has a lot of RPG element in the game, and the open-endedness of the game is pretty awesome (though kinda hard at times since there is no one clear cut easy solution...)

I do have one problem with the game though... After the 2.0 patch, the blood seem to be gone from the game... I googled for a long time and found some bloodpatch from some German website, but they won't let me download it after I PROVE that I am over 18... And since I don't have a German passport to prove that I am over 18 I am SOL... Sigh...

Actually about that, I can see why blood is patched out, since it patch 2.0 was a European patch. Is there a US version of Patch 2.0?

I got the UK path and there's plenty of blood. At least, there's a pool of blood after someone dies. Is that gone from your version?

There is the pool of blood after, but there should be blood spilling out on contact (with a blade).

Funny, this game came up in the 100th podcast that goes up tonight. I played it when it first came out, but as mentioned, it was a total mess. Definitely interested in seeing what they end up with on the next game.

Yeah, I am eager to see their new offerings. Any news on White Gold?

I've decided that I'll describe this game thusly: Deus Ex with a cheesy, blockbuster action movie storyline.

I was looking up stuff on the Precursors and was reminded about this game. I just got it for around $7 half of which was for shipping.

BTW here is the review that was mentioned in a recent ep of the podcast,

It can be purchased dirt cheap ... should you wish to take the plunge.
