Name a Band / Song We Should Know About

“Bardcore” lel

It works incredibly well until the chorus. That kind of syncopation, along with melodic lines which don’t resolve, sounds very modern. It’s still pretty good, though.

I'm enjoying Phoebe Bridgers' new album Punisher.

It's currently sitting at 90 on Metacritic and Pitchfork says:

On her marvelous second album, Phoebe Bridgers defines her songwriting: candid, multi-dimensional, slyly psychedelic, and full of heart. Her music has become a world unto itself.

Some example songs:

YouTube audio quality is crap but if that's all you have here is the full album:

Yes! I've been loving Punisher. Not sure I like it better than the first album, though.

SO EFFING GOOOOOD

There’s language

Hot damn, Chuck D is still in his prime!

Reminds me of the lyric:

we return from the depths of the badlands
with a gun and a knife in our waistband
went to war with the devil and Shaitan
he wore a bad toupee and a spray-tan

Oh, that's goooooood.

That new Run the Jewels is so f***ing good. I wish I had seen them after I had listened to this album. I saw them open for Lorde well over a year ago now. They had not particularly grabbed me until this album.

My Number 1 album of the year, so far.

I really hope they do a solo headlining tour after next year's big Rage Against the Machine tour. I've seen them twice in a venue that holds about 3,000 people and I just can't imagine ever having to go to a stadium for them. There's something about the immediacy of their music and live show that I'm not sure would translate well to a huge venue.

The first time I saw the Beastie Boys perform was at the Hollywood Palladium which I think holds 2000 people? It’s a memory I’ll keep until I die.

I’ve seen them several times after at festivals and other massive venues. There’s no comparison.

This is a fun Phoebe Bridgers video:

I want that real life Fortnite skin! I bet she broke into Glen Danzig’s Hollywood mansion and jacked it.

If you went that route you may appreciate watching the movie Love & Mercy.

It was good. Thanks for the recommendation.

Paul Giamatti does such a good job playing characters I love to hate. Even though he does also play more likable characters I still often refer to him by his “nickname” from the Howard Stern movie as that is the first movie I saw him in.

So Flav is back in PE again?

This singer is a DREAM front man...

OMG! How did i not know about these guys? Love it!

Seriously i can't thank you enough for sharing these guys!

I saw an interview with Chuck, maybe around January 2020. He clarified that Flav was never kicked out of PE, and that Flav was welcome back whenever he wanted. I don’t know all the details, but it sounded like some opportunistic people were taking advantage of Flavor’s good nature. ??

I recently heard a podcast where Rick Ruben had a conversation with Mike D and Horowitz. If you’re a fan, you absolutely must listen. The podcast is Broken Record. Horowitz told a story, saying the last time he saw Flavor, Horowitz was in his car, stopped at an intersection in NYC, and Flavor knocked on his window and asked for a ride down the street.

King Crimson!

Greg Lake singing this on The Court of the Crimson King is one of my favorites. Lovely cover.

So, this young woman was in the recent Pomplamoose vid “The End of the World as We Know It” (q. v.), and I fell into a hole of her songs after hearing her winning performance on American Idol (please don’t hold that against her) in 2018. Now I can’t stop listening. What a voice, and what a songwriter.

Here’s one from this year:

Here’s one she wrote at age 18 and performed on Idol:

And here’s that Pomplamoose vid that set me on this musical journey:

One word:

TIGHT

HAH!! I love King Crimson but i didn’t realize that this is a cover. Probably has something to do with KC not being on Apple Music. I would link a YouTube of I am a Dinosaur but something tells me that KC isn’t there either.

edit: never mind

You are welcome. I got turned on to them by someone 20 years younger than me. Just blew me away. Glad I could help someone else find them.

Love these guys.

I love Chuck D

Mmmmmmm...... Night of the living bass heads for me. Check out the instrumentals for those two songs. Even without vocals, those beats make me go wild!
