Name a Band / Song We Should Know About

Some people on twitter wanted to know if they can make a white power music video. I told them no and to shut F up.

YouTube has unofficially yet very explicitly explained how to post a discriminatory video and not have it get removed.

Spoiler:

Apparently, if you create a 90 minute mostly benign video and imbed five minutes of the most heinous discriminatory speech somewhere in the middle, YouTube will not take it down because the discriminatory speech was not the main focus of the 90 minute video. You can even encourage your viewers to publicly harass specific people.

I hope this is no longer true, but it was true it one point.

Any further discussion of this should probably be done in a different thread.

The sound of a well meaning Tim Smith nursing a malfunctioning mellotron out of it's remaining health.

I'm really enjoying The Avalanches new song and Erik Cavanaugh gives me life

Are the Avalanches that same group who use to do avant-guard experimental digital glitch music?

I don’t know about avant-garde but it’s definitely not pop. The songs I know them best for are:

Childish Gambino or Donald Glover put his new album, Donald Glover Presents, on youtube. I can't embed it the hourglass thingy just goes on and on. Maybe he broke the internet. Here is the link to the full album he could be spider man

He also has links to each track on his youtube site.

New chiptune metal album "FLOPPY DISK OVERDRIVE" out by MASTER BOOT RECORD

I listened to it on repeat for a few hours today and it was a great soundtrack for working from home

It’s like the best soundtrack ever written for an old school shmup or bullet hell. RAD!

RTJ4 must be getting close to release. A couple of singles showed up on Spotify, YouTube, etc.:

Trent just dropped Ghosts V & VI on his website for free.

Ghosts is very cool. Instrumental, Eno-like but definitely Reznor flavored.

Dua Lipa's second album, Future Nostalgia, is another very good pop album that's worth a listen. This is the song that's currently stuck in my head. Somehow the line "I should've stayed at home" seems pretty timely.

Any song that makes me want to dance is a good song in my books and a few on this album definitely do that. Break My Heart and Physical are great examples.

Good? Pop? Dance? I’m in!

I've been listening to Little Dragon's latest album today. This song really stood out and has made it into my main playlist.

Two songs Spotify served me recently.

If you like Ska

If you're more into Mumford and Sons

That ska-adjacent song made me think of Voodoo Glow Skulls. I got to see them live more times than I can count on two hands. It was a good time to be in the so-cal punk scene.

Seaside Treats in 50 bobs per second goodness

Jim has never came down that hill so smoothly!

New Aesop Rock from the soundtrack for the video game Freedom Finger

NOFX is dead! Don’t believe me? Watch the video. At first I thought this was an Erik Melvin song, what with all the intense self deprecation. But I read some of the lyrics and I’m thinking it’s a Fat Mike break up song. Maybe his polyamorous relationship is over? Not sure.

“A unhip-hop scotch blend”
Mike certainly has a way with words. That’s like five sentences all smashed into one.

Hmmm... I guess I still love NOFX after all.

Oh crap oh crap oh crap
This goes live stream in 15 minutes. I’m guessing it’s a pro edited video of this audio:

Oh man that was incredible. I’m in tears.

Here is the official post

Baz’s orchestra. Baz gets funky on the xylophone, y’all.

This is me in 1995 at the Roxy in Hollywood for one of two shows where they recorded their first live album I Heard They Suck Live. If you own the CD lift up the disc and you should see this photo.
