Name a Band / Song We Should Know About

Roommate's brother has a band. This is their new album. I hope it's not bias speaking but there's something about their sound that seems pretty fresh.

Ultra Ego by Feed Me Jack

Started listening to it on Bandcamp. It's good! Feels like something I would have really loved in my 20s. Want to give it a few listens to see how it turns out for me. Threw $5 at it.

Yay!

Yeah, I was digging it too! Good stuff!

Great to see the likes. They can really use the recognition.

Good electronic chillout music.

In case anyone doesn't know about Beach House

Lately I've been into David Bowie (RIP ), LORN, Taylor McFerrin, and Thundercat.

I was surprised to find so many Goodjers in the RIP Bowie thread that hadn't listened to his work, so here's a taste of my favorites:

Then there's LORN, who I've posted about before, either here on in the electronic music thread. He recently released more new tunes, that are free (pay what you want) on Bandcamp right now.

Taylor McFerrin also makes some tasty tunes:

And Thundercat is great too (note the similarities to Flying Lotus, because Flying Lotus produced the album Apocalypse and the two have collaborated a lot )

Tennyson's music is light, peppy, injected with a slight dose of familiar melody. Reminds me of a fantasized version of my teenage years.

Nice. I just was reminded of Tennyson's song Lay-by a couple days ago and made a mental note to see if he(they?) had anything else out since then. This is getting added to my work playlist.

And the song I mentioned above:

Spoiler:

yes, that's a car seat belt alarm you're hearing throughout the song...

Just in case you're not familiar with one of the best songs ever.

The new DIIV album is available to stream! I have the special edition preordered. I really like the artwork for this album:

Edit: I'm on my second listen. This album is fantastic.

I remember when I was able to watch MuchMusic and MGB was on:
Matthew Good Band - Strange Days

I'm 50/50 on their material. These guys have been around for a bit and seem to play at most of the pagan and drum circle festivals around the SE. This is one of the better ones from that album along with Hum and the Shiver.

How'd they get Steve Vai to show up, dress in a kilt and play simple chords on an acoustic?

In a thread asking about music similar to Sigur Rós, someone mentioned Hammock, so I checked them out. Wow. Hammock is my new groove. Their older stuff is more rhythmic, more electronic, less orchestral, less spacey, but still great ambient music. They publish on their own label.

Nobody else in Nashville is making music like this.

2 minutes into that Long Black Curl video and I had to stop it. There's something about the Appalachian Hippie culture that just feels... insincere to me. The vibe rubs me the wrong way. Which is weird, because my wife and I are good friends with a bunch of folks in Kentucky that identify as such, and they're really great and intensely caring people. Maybe it's a Country Mouse vs Town Mouse thing.

Also I've yet to meet a man wearing a utilikilt that I could take seriously.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, BadKen! Love it.

Because there's a bunch of insincere people in it, and just use it to get high and sell drugs. There's also a lot of good folks who like stripping back and getting close to nature. The bands that play at these type of festivals are a mix too. This one is more of the less offensive ones, and are more of a homage band for the Tufa books so it makes sense (at least to me) for them to act/look this way. Plus they're talented so that helps.

Another band I miss seeing on MuchMusic. Happy Valentines!:
The Tea Party - These Living Arms

New Aesop Rock album coming out in a couple months.

So, I'm a huge fan of Lucius and their first album. I think the new album is good but some of the songs aren't really grabbing me yet. That said, the first song is a masterpiece. I really love it.

Hip-hop heads: I'm STILL spinning Summertime '06 by Vince Staples weekly. That grimey No I.D. production is perfect for his voice. If I was Michael Bolton driving to work in the beginning of Office Space, I would have been playing this:

I absolutely love all of the new Esperanza Spalding album. Sidenote: I do believe this is the sexiest song I've ever heard.

I'm in love with Poliça's song "Wedding". I saw it on a music video show here and thought it was tremendous. I downloaded their latest album, but don't have a verdict on it yet.

Well, that was a bit more intense than I expected. Very cool.

That singer is a crazy Julie Andrews lookalike. She even sings with the exact same mannerisms.

Yeah. Aside from the content of the song and video, I found her mannerisms in the video entrancing.

Love that band, Chain My Name is one of my favorite songs of the past few years.

Man! You folks got great taste in music. Thundercat, Polica, Aesop, Lord Huron, Beach House, My Bloody Valentine. All favorites of mine.

I'm new to this thread, but I'll try do post a couple of songs that y'all might like.
