Name a Band / Song We Should Know About

Some new Aussie Hip-hop that i've really been digging recently. Just really upbeat with good choruses.

Wow.

Been on a big Streetlight Manifesto kick lately. The band nerd in my still loves a good horn section.

And some bonus covers:

Probably doesn't need its own thread, and this is the closest thing to a straight up music thread, so I'll post it here. Dave Brubeck died at almost 92 today (at least the obits are going up now). The first time I heard Take 5, my mind was blown, and it was the jazz piece that started my love of jazz. He had an amazing run.

RIP

So good.

I've got a great one for ya'll! Denovali Records' email list and they are giving away the MP3 version of Carlos Cipa's new album for free. If you like Satie or Debussy, you should give it a listen! The download is free until the 16th of this month.

Hey, let's all celebrate Yet Another Apocalypse Day (tm) by digging into our collections and posting some apocalypse-themed music!

There's just something about that song ...

Cross-posted from the Post a Video Thread:

Friday Happy Music time!

I can't decide between these two so you get both!

Lyrically driven, piano, mid/slow tempo, sounds like a Moose favorite! I love this song.
Check out the Lumineers:

Like. Like a lot. I'll check dem out.

Has anyone mentioned The Sheepdogs yet? They're from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, North America, Earth. They have a retro feel about them. Groovy with a twinge of country... sort of hard to explain. I like 'em.

r/Listentothis did a underrated songs of 2012 list that's got some really neat things on it:

I'm going to periodically post some highlights as I find them.

Really digging //orangenoise. Reminds me a lot of My Bloody Valentine.

Are we still calling it conscious hip hop these days? There aren't many artists of any genre that create lyrics strong enough to stand on their own as poetry. Guante describes being struck by lightning:

"The smell is like a hospital on fire,
like the cleanest smoke you could imagine,
like spring water pulled apart by the atoms,
like recycled air on the airplane crashing.
Didn't give me superpowers,
So I guess I got to take my chances."

I might be overselling that a bit. He's not really a rapper, more like a spoken word artist with rap overtones.

Groupees is running a charity pay-what-you-want bundle. For a minimum for $1, there are 19 albums as a reward that, after $5, becomes 33 albums. Details:

The To Newtown With Love Bundle- FiXT music & Groupees have joined to bring you this 100% to charity campaign. Name your price: $1 minimum gets you 19 unique albums, including the new 24-song "Music For Newtown" compilation only available here + e-books and comic. $5 minimum gets you 14 additional albums. Artists include Celldweller, Blue Stahli, Christina Marie Magenta, Savant, and LOTS more. Outrageous prizes and group bonuses. The #ToNewtownWithLove Bundle was organized in response to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary this past December. As creators, we understand that art can provide joy, inspiration and meaning to people. However, as powerful of medium as the arts can be, they cannot undo the loss of life or the impact a tragedy like this has on the victims' families, friends, community, and the rest of the world. Our goal for this promotion is to support, uplift, and memorialize the spirits of the victims and their families as well as shine a bright and enduring light on the community of Newtown. May the World not simply stop for a moment to take pity on a small town and its people, but rather may we all be reminded everyday by the work of these artists that change is needed to prevent tragedies like this from ever happening again anywhere and everywhere.

Not only being something I want to support, I also have enjoyed discovering the bands Celldweller and Blue Stahli from Groupees bundles in the past and hope that some of the other artists will be just as good.
Semi-random artist/track examples:

Possibly not the best place to post this, but oh well.

I was thinking Passion Pit crossed with M83, but that's legit.

I've been going through that Reddit list kazooka linked to up thread. Found this:

I posted that in the vanilla Videos thread when I found it. It's amazing. I keep noticing new things every time I watch.

It's got Matt Berry in it, so I automatically like it! Too bad the music that was made to accompany the awesome video was so bland.

It's kind of tough to notice with all that's going on visually, but it's actually pretty complex. Reminds me a lot of Explosions in the Sky. But I'm pretty big on prog, post-rock and all that instrumental guitar stuff.

That's some great stuff.

Yeeah I don't think we're going to agree on this one.

I grew up on post-punk, electro and hip hop. Prog just sounds like a monkey hitting trash can lids to me.

Wow, on the Three Trapped Tigers note, this sure is a crazy music video:

Thanks, Japan.

Pogo just posted a new remix to Sound Cloud. It's called Grover's Groove.
