I just noticed Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) is doing backup vocals. Always there to backup Ted when he needs him
I swear every 5 years or so I'm reminded of how good Metric is and then fall into a deep hole of relistening to all their stuff.
More and more I'm finding that my go to focus music is instrumental dub reggae.
So Dub is like the inverse of Ska, then... I like it! You know about the Skatellites and first-wave Ska, right? Just checking.

Oh I'm a ska fanatic! As evidenced by my one and only bumper sticker:
Yeah it's pretty much take all the chill vibes of reggae and do a weird instrumental remix that focuses on drums, bass, and wild echo/tape effects.
Excellent!
I just learned about The Warning and they are amazing.
The Warning - Six Feet Deep
And if you want to hear how they sound live:
Dust To Dust / Dull Knives (Cut Better)

That song Six Feet Deep is superb, and that video is next level.
Wikipedia says the sisters got their start playing Rock Band! Wow.

Their most viewed video on their youtube channel is this cover of Enter Sandman from 10 years ago. And as good as that cover is, it's crazy how far they've come since then.
That was the first thing I started looking for when I learned they had been streaming since they were very young. I mean, it's a bit tropey for a new rock band to cover Enter Sandman on YouTube, but their version is very good, and for a first video, it's outstanding.
It's cool they had the support of their parents when they were starting out. That video was shot in a studio.

I think they ended up on the Metallica cover albums they did a few years ago

Yep. And it's a much cooler version.

It looks cooler, and the instrumentation is better, but I prefer hearing actual people sing and not an auto-tuned digital mess.
If you don't like the sound processing, fair enough, but I don't think it's auto-tuned. There's a lot of pitch sliding in the vocals, and I didn't hear any stair-steppy artifacts. I'm no expert though. BUT. Any subtle vocal dynamics were absolutely crushed by that overprocessed production.
My main appreciation of it isn't exactly the performance or the mix, though. I like the melodic changes they made, and the way the song moves from angry pop singer at the start to hard rock trio at the end.
Pretty sure they don't do autotune, but they have always doubled vocal tracks and added reverb and/or distortion to them
Oh, sorry for not getting the nomenclature right. I thought auto tune was kind of a catch-all term for that kind of digital processing. Obviously lots of people like it, and that's fine. I personally find it distracting at best, and usually irritating. Their live videos are all great and just feel more warm and authentic to me, which I prefer. I get more emotional response, and less "movie-soundtrack" feel.
Gotcha! I can see how folks lump them together but personally not a fan of autotune and want to give singers with talent their due. The sound your talking about though kinda applies to all of that Blacklist album. The major difference are the many different styles from the different artists playing the same songs...
Speaking of live, this is my 2 favorite songs of theirs live..

Here's a good explainer from a few years back on what autotune does to a vocal. Fil from Wings of Pegasus shows the waveforms of isolated vocal tracks for two different songs: Freddy Mercury in Somebody to Love, and Michael Bublé in Home. He starts by graphically showing how Freddy Mercury's voice moving around the pitches gives the music a more human character than android Michael Bublé's voice in the second section of the video. Some of Bublé's vocals are a little too perfect when you look at the waveforms. It's anyone's guess why a producer would want to autotune Bublé, because clearly he has an incredible voice. I guess some producers are just addicted to it now.

A+ post, because I didn't know about The Warning either, and that was just the energy I didn't know I needed.
There has been so much air drumming and guitar when I should've been working over the last couple of days.
adjusted lyrics are entertaining
Spotted this on one of my socials today. Reminds me of a lot of British rock I listened to in the late 1980s.
I take issue with the band's name though. There's only one Beth.
It's not my genre but I laughed my ass off at HelloWorld.java
One YouTube commenter said, "These cats put the ABBA in Black Sabbath," which isn't too far off. Weird and great.

Fact - Crystal Beth is the One True Beth?
There have been rumors for a while but the infamous Pat the Bunny/Wingnut Dishwashers Union/Johnny Hobo & The Freight Trains/et al has just officially announced his retirement from his retirement from music with his first new project in over a decade, Friends in Real Life.
The single released today is much less nihilistic and cynical than his old stuff but it’s still recognizably Pat the Bunny. Can’t wait for the rest of the album to drop.
If you aren’t familiar with his stuff at all, this is one of my favorite songs from his old stuff and is pretty representative of that era:
It is now 35 years since They Might Be Giants' 3rd album, Flood, was released. Perhaps their best known album, with some of their best known songs (thanks, in part, to Tiny Tunes). They've now released 23 studio albums total (including 5 made for kids). Always fun and quirky, they fill a birdhouse shaped hole in my soul whenever I listen to them.
They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse In Your Soul
Such a good album! One of my first 10 obsessions growing up!!! We have the vinyl now.
Jordan Morris of the Maximum Fun podcast network did an interview with those two guys years ago that was really good and fascinating.
OK Go always seem to knock it out of the park with their music videos:
OK Go - A Stone Only Rolls Downhill
