Name a Band / Song We Should Know About

I would like to play a game based on this song, about a stylized 50-ish Sinead O'Connor traveling to the underworld to find Jackie and save his dumb lost ass.

Jackie is one of my favorite songs by her. I can't resist a good ghost story, especially if it's presented with such tension in the music mixed with the passion of her voice.

Soooo fun to hear a new Kings of Convenience song:

That's an insta-buy album for me when it comes out.

Edit: For context, this is one of the "big" Kings of Convenience songs from way back when:

The new CHVRCHES song is kinda interesting. I haven't followed them much since the first amazing album. I know the lead singer had a lot of huge terrible male hate and horribleness hit her after that album for no reason. I feel like this new song is kind of addressing that a bit.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY
Here’s a nugget of angst. It’s a cover of Roxy Music.

Artist: Angel Olsen - Song: More Than This

For anyone interested, Open Mike Eagle has a newish podcast series of deep-dive interviews with other musicians. Last year he focused on Prince Paul but this year he’s been talking with El-P about his career and the rise and fall of Def Jux.

I just can't see Avalon as "angsty". "Horny", sure, but not anxiety inducing.

DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE’S GOING TO BE A NEW HIATUS KAIYOTE ALBUM SOON?!?

I’m still really been enjoying the latest album from Glass Animals. I may have shared some of it here before.

If you you like that it’s worth checking out some of their older stuff:

Latest Sigrid is catchy. Sounds familiar tho.

Sarah Jarosz has a new album out now, "The Blue Heron Suite". It's a kind of concept album that came about when she became the recipient of the FreshGrass Composition Commission in 2017, while also being around the time of her mother's cancer diagnosis and Hurricane Harvey. Combine that with Sarah's songwriting, put it all in a blender, and this album popped out. And don't just take my word for it - John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats has been talking up the brilliance of this album on his twitter too.

This is my favourite song of the album, I think. Such a brilliant song, and then that baritone guitar comes in. Love it. It kind of reminds me of something too. I can't put my finger on it, maybe you can help?

And a live clip.

My vinyl copy of the new Japanese Breakfast album arrived today. It's absolutely amazing and flows really well. No dud songs. Gonna be listening on repeat the rest of the year.

Edit:

The album is just so good, ya'll. Digital version went live as of now. The last song is so damn good.

It’s on my list of new listens. Thanks for recommending it.

What color vinyl is that?

I'm tempted to give them a listen, but put off by my dislike of actual Japanese breakfasts.

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY!!

The 20th anniversary edition of The Avalanches first album Since I Left You is out today. It’s remastered and has a bonus remix disc. But why remix what’s already perfect?

Ha! I'll admit, I haven't had a proper Japanese breakfast, but I know it's usually rice and fish, so I'm game. She's Korean and the band's songs have kind of been her coping mechanism for her mother dying until now. This one is a little more cheerful. Still loving it. The digital version became available now, so I've got it to listen to in the car now!

It was some sort of preorder pink through the band store.

Great song... My partner was like... "I haven't heard this in forever!" "Nice Blast of the Past"

Just dropped, from her upcoming third studio album.

Yay! New Lorde!

NEW MUSIC FRIDAY

It seems that Annie Clark aka St Vincent has become a full fledged member of Sleater Kinney. The second SK album to feature AC is out now!
