College Football 2008 Season Catch-All

Well, looks like no surprises. Which is good. If TEXAS wants to complain, complain to the conference boss to make the rules better and more encompassing.

Not necessarily. If everything works out, then that's just validation for the BCS.

Not really, we are still left with the OK-TX-TT issue that would have been solved by a playoff, also with a bit more respect to the NON-BCS undefeated teams.

The BCS is set up so everything "just works out" for the most part. That's the most insidious part of it. By February, all the outrage dies off and it perpetuates itself for another year.

OU-TX-TT is a Big 12 problem. A playoff may have helped, but the Big 12 basically punting on the tiebreaker rules made that more of a mess than it should have been.

Non-BCS teams, no matter how good, will never get love because they come from "lesser" conferences. And there is a point to that: playing the SEC is a little different from playing the Mountain West.

Still, wish there was a playoff...

buzzvang, any reaction to Tubbs ouster? Not sure Auburn is going to be able to get a better coach/recruiter to replace him. Ivan Maisel has a piece over at ESPN that calls AU out for panicking about Saban being instate.

Reaction? I don't think I could've picked a better 10 day period to be out of the country and away from sporting news.

I haven't had much chance to read up on everything that's happened since last Weds, but what I've seen and heard has left me bewildered, stunned and more than a little ashamed. It's been a remarkable blend of arrogance and incompetence that AU's PTB have revealed in the past couple of off-seasons. I wouldn't trust Jay Jacobs to mow my lawn.

Bradford is your Heisman winner, though he sounded like he was scared sh*tless by a former Sooner Heisman winner continually shouting "BOOMER!" at the top of his lungs.

That was Billy Sims. He also owns a chain of BBQ restaurants around here whose slogan is "Remember its not barbecue, its Boomer-que!".
He is hilarious.

VT wins.

Tide Rolled.

*sigh* As (I believe it was) Barry Switzer said at halftime - Utah played like they wanted to be at the Sugar Bowl; Alabama played like they wanted to be in Miami.

Let the hate for the BCS start to swell once more.

Its happened to the best of us. At least there weren't 2 trick plays which have already made it on every 'greatest play' reel ever made. I'm here for you brother.

The arrogance of USC is astounding:

Don't get me wrong. I won't say I expected us to lose but I had my concerns. The coaches can talk until they're blue in the face but I "knew" those kids would be over-confident. Furthermore, Urban Meyer came to Florida from Utah. Utah reminded me of Florida. If Alabama's kicker had hit one of the two field goals he missed, the score would have been the same as it was in the Florida game.

On the bright side, Alabama has only 9 scholarship seniors and played the second-most freshman of any team in the country. When I say "wait until next year", it's not just some empty hope.

I actually bet on Utah. How one loves a 10x payout.

Then maybe you should have bet more than a dime.

I bet a 10 spot. Wish it had been more but, a C note in profit is not bad.

Where do you bet on football and get odds instead of point spreads?

I'm curious if the Tide has a QB ready to step in for John Parker?

It looks like the line play won't be quite as good next year either, if the bowl game is any indication. Still, Bama should be in some kind of mix for the SEC West next year. Their underclassmen are talented, and they should add depth with the next recruiting class. I think I've been most surprised by Ole Miss. I expected Nutt to make them better, but they looked incredible in their last three games. It was good to see LSU get their mojo back too. Could it be that LSU and Ole Miss get predicted to be 1 & 2 in the West next year?

buzzvang wrote:

They played the bowl game without Andre Smith, who will almost unquestionably be a top 10 pick in April.

The difference showed.

I'm hoping his little suspension raises just enough questions for him to slide to pick #8.

(It's going to be another crazy tackle-heavy draft. Except unlike last year, more than 1 will be in the top 10. Some mock drafts are putting 4 guys in the top 10. At least two or three is likely).

Wow, awesome catch for OSU to start the 4th quarter.

Beat the hell outta t.u., Buckeyes!

The gnashing of teeth and wailing of OSU fans at ESPN.com is glorious. I would've preferred that game to end with a meteor hitting the stadium with the game tied at 3 in the 4th quarter, but failing that, I guess Texas winning isn't that bad, as opposed to the other possible result.

Blah. :p

Was a good game, if not for the painful 3rd quarter and failed conversions. In the few times we've met recently with Texas, every mach-up has been a great ride.

Oh well. At least the Aggie basketball team won last night, netting them a pre-season record of 14-1.

Baby Mangino's now super popular and has an arch-enemy.

Thank you, Florida.

Thank you for exposing the BCS once more as a flawed system.

Thank you for not forcing us to endure people yelling "BOOMER! SOONER!" for a month.

Thank you for giving such schools as Utah, Texas, and (I hope my sister doesn't kill me) USC legitimate consideration for the AP trophy.

Most importantly, thank you for giving us America's Sideline Princess, Erin Andrews.

I did not know you could broadcast an entire game with a Starting QB's Johnson in your throat, but lord, that FOX team tried. Anyone know if Tebow does parties? I've got some water if he can do the wine thing.

QUICK POLL: Is Chris Meyers The Worst Sideline Reporter Ever?

a.) Yes
b.) Yes

I love Texas, but... it's USC.

Fixed.
