Valkyria Chronicles Catch-All

Great review. This convinced me to take my PSP on vacation so I could finally finish VC2. I love this series so much.

Thanks! I'd love to know what VC2 improves on if anything. Hopefully it'll see a PC release after the success of the first game, which seems to have sold a lot in Steam Sales.

I guess a fighting game came out on the vita that features silvaria playable and Alicia as an assist

Kind of an aside but.. Has anyone with the Steam version of the just had it stop working and crash to desktop? I've had to reinstall it 3 times of the 7 times I've played it.

LockandLoad, I've had 0 crashes with 20 hours play in... Weird. Wish I had any advice!

100%ed achievements on steam version with no crashes. Running win7

I had one crash in mission 7, but apart from that it was fine. Are your missions happening in the menus or actually in missions?

The crashes are happening immediately on the start of the game. I can install it, play for a bit, save my game & exit out okay but then I'll try and load it the next day and it's a coin flip on wether it'll crash or not. And once the crashes start, they never stop until I uninstall / reinstall. Even running the Steam game integrity checks don't fix it. I can't find anything on the Steam forums that helps and the rest of my system's been running fine.

Huge bummer, was just starting to get into the squad missions.

Would guess that there is possibly something interfering with it. Do you have Xfire installed? I've known that to cause a few conflict issues for people.

Hey, great news - Sega is making a new Valkyria Chronicles!

Also says they're making a remaster for the PS4. No word yet on 2 or 3 ports though

I seriously doubt they will ever port 2 or 3 to anything (except maybe Vita). The amount of work required to make these look even passable in HD for consoles or PC seems a bit too high for me... (I'm currently playing VC2 in high resolution using dark magic and the 3D models (both characters and environments) look like garbage.)

I will say though: If they ever remake those in HD, I will be very happy. I can't talk for 3 (it's in my backlog), but 2 is pretty great, despite the repetitive environments and the bad story.

That is great news. I wonder how well it did on PC. I'd love to see concurrent releases of the new game on PC.

Some more details about the new game.

Looks like it's being developed by the guys who made VC3. It is also doesn't have Chronicles in the name as it will be based on a different war. I'm a bit disappointed to read it also says that it'll have a real-time battle system rather than a turn-based one :(.

Real time? Maybe they are stripping the top down portion that Clocky doesn't like.

If they change up the combat system, I might be interested in a new game. I like the art and the world. If they keep what was in place as of VC2, I'll pass.

Real time? I'm reserving judgement on being interested then. Half the fun I had with the original was playing it with a couple friends and taking time to have input on drunken strategery.

Edit: I just realized Big G already started a post with "Real time?" My repetition was less because I was trying to be poetic or funny, and more because I don't' refresh pages often enough.

Not if I just got lucky by being in Australia, but this is an exciting find. Also ridiculously cheap. $40 AUS, so roughly $29 US.

$29.99 is the release price in the US.

Sorry, quoted myself instead of editing.

Yup, $29.99. Mine arrived alongside Homefront yesterday in a gorgeous looking steelbook, which was quite the surprise. Mayhaps I shall take a photo!

Lol. Hey, I thought it was some kind of treasure. I'm so out of it game-wise I didn't know it was a worldwide release.

Don't listen to them, it can be special if you want it to be.

It is special! I'm pretty sure I didn't get an exclusive poster.

It's also special because Australia didn't have to wait 6 months.

I love the dissonance between the cutesy images on the cover and the "violence" sticker. What a beautiful game this was on ps3. I imagine it's only better on ps4.

Mine should arrive today, I played it a bit on ps3 back in the day, but got distracted by shinny things.

You're in for a treat, Fastmav. It's one of my favorite all-time games. I wish the vita sequel had been better.

Mine comes in the mail Friday. I missed this the first go around, and I am looking forward to digging into this.
