Soul Calibur 4 Catch-All

Mitsurugi is a classic starting point.

Maxi, Kilik, Seong Mi-Na, Sophitia, and Cassandra are all considered to be newbie-friendly. I find Raphael to be pretty powerful and easy to learn as well.

Talim is pretty button mashing friendly too.

Honestly though? Pick somebody you like, because there are only a handful of truly effective moves for each. Learn those and the rest is just flash.

Case in point, I ruled the other SC's with Mitsurugi and Cervantes. Got pretty good with Xiangiufienadfsian(sp?). However, to this day, I can only barely get through arcade mode with Voldo.

And whatever you do, make sure you leave Maxi til last. His moveset is downright annoying.

Maxi pad is gimped now. Far too predictable.

Been playing my first few online matches and have been getting my butt kicked.

I tend to steer towards Kilik, Siegfried, and Xanguia(sp) and used to be pretty good against friends back in the day. I can't seem to get any moves off what so ever. Maybe i just need to practice a bit more, maybe the people out there are just way better, or maybe I should just stick to single player... haven't decided yet.

It was still fun though

Word has it the collector's edition DLC is now available for 200 points. For those of you who get upset about such things, the content is already on your disk so you'd just be paying to unlock it. It seems to be schoolgirl/boy and maid outfits.

Could you describe the schoolgirl and maid outfits?

I don't have them, but... one looks kinda like a French maid... and the others look like your typical Japanese school uniforms. When the content's released (it's not out yet) I might get it to make Persona 3 characters. ... Yeah, that'll work.

Seong Mi-Na

I totally dig her fighting style. Once you learn her over/under and under/over attacks you can constantly keep your opponent off guard. Plus there's her easy to execute extension "poke" attack and her devastating overhead double-chop.

She seems a tad bit slower than Kilik but I'm willing to sacrifice speed for her disorienting attack style.

I really need to make time for this game again... Haven't played online in days.

I'm back up and running. It's really hard to describe the affect of latency. There's been a couple times I got the crap kicked out of me not because the other guy was better (well I guess in a sense he was...) but because he was just hitting the B button and I was physically (and mentally) incapable of timing anything (sidestep, block, guard impact whatever). Online currently it seems to be a battle to get advantage early and then if your careful you can keep it. In person it's much more fluid.
And nobody low blocks as far as I can tell. Which is a change for me because I've been playing the last couple years against people who do, so I'm not used to it being as wildly successful (and in truth I feel like a little bit of a dick and try to restrain myself...but seriously if their not going to respect my low attacks they'll just keep blocking my normal attacks).

But it is playable and I'm enjoying it.
I've been hosting the online games at 2 matches. I think 3 is a little long for a room of 4 people. I noticed last night that we only had 3 people the entire night which was a little surprising. Are people only playing in 3 match games or is the online population not as a robust?

I went online for the first time last night, confident after attempting story mode on hard and breezing through it.

It did not go well. Back to the training room.

Back to the training room.

Careful, the training room doesn't have a latency setting and won't pull off 10 hit combos on you...
Your more than welcome to join Shadowjon and I online. We're mostly harmless.

I think I'm about ready to peek into the online game. Is there some sort of GWJ SC4 clan, or should I just add people to my friends list?

I really can't get on with Mitsurugi, in any SC game (much as I'd like to, as samurai are clearly awesome), it always feels like there's no 'flow' to his moves. I find Cervantes to be the opposite, hence he's my favourite, with the added bonus of being an UNDEAD PIRATE.

He can also fly around which is kind of a Female Doggo. :O

Not forgetting the (albeit easily dodgeable) GUN. He really is King Female Doggo.

Why don't you ask Sinatar about being King Female Doggo?

Hey, remember your friend, Mr. Thunder? How 'bout his buddy, Mr. Lightning? Ooh, I know you know him. You know him real well, don't ya?

I forgot we could do this....

I played Mitsu for awhile but couldn't throw opponents into the fearfull changes of stance that a good threat should. Now I play yoshimitsu and poke away.

I sent some friend invites, so you may see an invite from somebody you don't know.

ooh! I need friend invites! Hit me upon Xlive and we'll get our sword smash on!

Benticore
Out

I'll be renting this game this weekend. Look me up. GWJ Grenn.

My favourite trash-talk after beating someone down with Cervantes flying-and-guns is: "Open the fridge... smell the cheese!".
If you can pre-empt your finishing blow so that it coincides with the word "cheese", all the better.

So is someone making a GWJ SC4 Fight Club gamertag?

No ps3 love? well damns.

Maybe a GWJ Fight Club for fighting games in general, or are there to few fighters?

I'd like to see a SC4 Fight Club gamertag. At least to se how many fighters we have.

Got it on the PS3 (for Vader) - So if you have this, PLEASE send me a friend invite. Also, How the heck do you beat floor 11? Its giving me such a headache.
