Rock Band 2

So now it's only one platform in one market? Or is that one platform a guess?
Basically the game is now completely off my radar like Rock Band 1 was...

That's really surprising, then -- the only way the 360 exclusivity made sense in my mind was if it was to get the game out worldwide. I know MS has probably given them a bag of cash to make it exclusive, but given the whole "it's a platform" aspect, and the fact that GHWT won't be far behind it, you'd think they'd want to get it out there for everyone. Anyone with a PS3 that wants a band game in October is going to have to choose between Rock Band 1, knowing that Rock Band 2 with superior instruments isn't far off, and GHWT, which is new and shiny, and even works with their existing GH3 guitar, and that's not a scenario that bodes well for the Harmonix option.

I think Xbox Live has a lot to do with Rock Band focusing on the 360. The developers mentioned how easy it is to buy DLC over Live. Until Sony and Nintendo wake up, these music based games are going to use Xbox Live to rake tons of cash via DLC. I'd love to see the numbers detailing how much cash they brought in for each platform.

Nah, I don't buy that argument, at least for the PS3 -- regardless of what problems the PSN Store might have for end users, Harmonix has been developing PS3 content and pushing it out on nearly every week for months now, so I can't see why it'd all-of-a-sudden be a problem for Rock Band 2. That's definitely a valid reason on the Wii, though, as is the fact that I'm sure there's considerable effort involved in porting the game to a less powerful platform.

I know GHWT is claiming to do DLC on the Wii, but to be frank, I'll believe it when I see it. GH3 was meant to have DLC on the Wii as well, but it just didn't happen.

Really doesn't matter why. If the 360 sees a ton more DLC going out, that will have an effect. The devs mentioned how great Live was set up to really drive DLC sales. It may be as simple as install base.

If they had to pick only one platform to launch on, then sure, the 360 is the obvious choice -- the installed base is bigger, and the time-to-market is probably shorter. I just think the single platform launch is a bit short-sighted. Harmonix is basically trading short-term gain (cash under the table from MS, no upfront PS3 development costs) for long-term pain (basically handing the PS3 market to GHWT).

The only way that's a good deal is if there's something extra to gain, like being able to launch in Europe simultaneously. Since they're not doing that, though, it sounds like a bad deal to me.

I wouldn't be too surprised if technical issues surrounding carryover of RB1 DLC were partly responsible for PS3 delays.

I bought a 360 because the PS3 store doesnt let you buy songs if you are in Mexico, apparently. I guess they sell a lot more songs on 360 than PS3.

world-wide release... in september.

Believe it when I see it, this side of the pond anyway.

Believe me, they're already all over that. My $240 (equivalent) purchase of Rock Band says so...

Here's me complaining when I actually love the game....although Expert drums still makes my feet sad.

I'm disappointed in the "new" guitar. Looks exactly like the old broke guitar.

Does anyone know of any mods that allow for regular electronic drums to be used as input devices to Rock Band?

Everything I've seen has been more about using the RB drums as a MIDI controller, but I did find this. Also depending on your handiness and dedication you should be able to use a MIDI relay controller hooked to a bashed 360 controller.

I'd love a midi-USB signal converter box. Plug in your drum module, hit a drum pad then press the corresponding controller button. Self contained. I would buy one in an instant.

I wonder if my feedback will make it into RB2. That whole interview seemed too... too used-car-saleman-y.

IGN: Here are ten bands I want to see in RB2:
Agent Orange
The Beatles
Built to Spill
The Buzzc*cks
Journey
Led Zeppelin
Modest Mouse
Pavement
The Replacements
Tool

Based on this list. How do you think I would rate RB2 on a scale of 0-10 (ten making me a happy reviewer and zero making suicidal).

Teasdale: Not only have you named some of my favorite bands, but you've also named some of the bands that are on the Rock Band 2 disc.

Oh snap, that means at least two. I'm guessing it's either Modest Mouse, Buzzc*cks, or the Replacements. But if they scored Tool? Zeppelin? The Beatles? I would lose my lunch.

* Dream Theater - “Panic Attack” (could also be Finger Eleven)
* System of a Down - “Chop Suey”
* Red Hot Chili Peppers - “Give It Away”
* Foo Fighters - “Everlong”
* Kim Wilde - “Kids in America”
* Motörhead - “Ace of Spades”
* Cheap Trick - “Hello There”
* Journey - “Any Way You Want It”
* The Who - “Pinball Wizard”

IMAGE(http://www.destructoid.com/elephant/ul/93309-RB2-song-select_header.jpg)

we also have these coming from a scorehero member who claims to have spent some time with the game.

* "One Step Closer" - Linkin Park
* "Peace Sells" - Megadeth
* "Testify" - Rage Against the Machine
* "American Woman" - The Guess Who (or Lenny Kravitz)
* "White Wedding" - Billy Idol
* "You Oughta Know" - Alanis Morisette
* "Aqualung" - Jethro Tull
* "Bad Reputation" - Thin Lizzy (or Joan Jett)
* "We Got the Beat"- The Go-Go's
* "Man in the Box" - Alice in Chains
* "Spoonman" - Soundgarden

That list isn't really blowing me away. Then again, it could just be the presence of Linkin Park and SoaD in there. Nails on a chalkboard. Oh, and Alanis Morisette (why'd it have to be the psycho chick anthem?). Some of it is stuff we've played in previous Guitar Heroes. If they wanted to put Thin Lizzy in there, why not something else? We Got the Beat was repetitive in Rocks the 80's. I imagine Give it Away will be too. Some of it looks good, but I'm skeptical so far.

Aw yeah, Ace of Spades. Any Soundgarden is always a good choice.

* "Testify"

YES!

- Rage Against the Machine

What?! Thats not Stevie Ray Vaughan. I take back my 'YES!'

* "You Oughta Know" - Alanis Morisette

What the f*ck.

Also, where's Guns N Roses? I swear I saw a video of Rock Band with some guys playing Welcome to the Jungle.

It's in the original game. I do think Paradise City would the the ultimate G'n'R song to play along with, but haven't seen that one anywhere.

Quintin_Stone wrote:

It would, I believe, be the song's 3rd appearance in the games (The original, then as DLC, possibly now). And I approve.

I'm so getting it.

Probably completely untrue, but a supposed leak of the current song list in rb2: kotaku

If Silversun Pickups is really on there, then this is a day 1 purchase for me. Day -1, if possible.

If it is true that Livin' on a Prayer, Everlong, and Down with the Sickness are in Rock Band 2, then I will knock down old ladies that are in my way to make sure I get this on day 1.

Man, and if there are old ladies there on day one, then it means this game'll be even more popular than we ever anticipated.

Wow, I can't believe you Gaald'ed that entire list. What about Jethro Tull, Motorhead, Alice In Chains, etc.? Sure, some of those don't pop out at me for being great, but I ended up loving Bon Jovi in RockBand against my expectations.

Replacements? Please let that be real.

That list better be real. I've been begging for both Pearl Jam's Alive and Foo Fighter's Everlong since the Guitar Hero franchise started. Give it Away should be really fun for both drummer and singer and should be quite challenging for bass.

Wow, all these GH/RB titles and still not a single Tom Petty song (assuming the RB2 lists are accurate). At this point I've gotta believe Petty just doesn't want his stuff used in these games. (A shame, if true.)
---Todd

I'm pretty sure Tom Petty is kinda liberal with the use of his music. He doesn't care about free downloading and stuff like that, so I don't know why he'd have a problem with rythm games. I could be wrong, though. Anyway, I'd love some American Girl on there.

also,

Feel the Pain - Dinosaur Jr.

nice!

Talking Heads - Psycho Killer
Modest Mouse - Float On
Survivor - Eye of the Tiger
Smashing Pumpkins - Today
Journey - Anyway You Want It
Steely Dan - Bodhitsattva
Joan Jett - Bad Reputation
L7 - Pretend We're Dead
Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf
Foo Fighters - Everlong
Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer
Beastie Boys - So Whatcha Want
Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye

If only a quarter of these were on it, I'd be giddy.

System of a Down - Chop Suey: sometimes when I'm particularly reluctant to get out of bed, my wife sings this to me.

Now that's not even right.

The rumored lists that went up on Kotaku look much better, but I still don't relish the idea of having to play through SoaD or Linkin Park to unlock the playlist. Not unlike having to choke through Fallout Boy in the first game.

Rockband needs some good metal. Older Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine, Megadeath would be murder for the guitar, hell, even some of Ozzy's new stuff. (Though please, no more covers. Black Sabbath, and more generically, there is only one Prince of Darkness... covers are an exercise in futility, and fail.)

I'd love to see more Freezepop, or The Vincent Black Shadow, Motion City Soundtrack would be interesting, I'd love to see some Scary Kids Scaring Kids... If there's one of any of those on there, I'll be happy.
