Age of Conan General Discussion

When do I get my free bag that was supposed to come with my mammoth? I am running out of room already.

Jimm,

Just type "/claim" and that should give it to you. You get it for all your toons as well!

FYI you have to register your retail game key for this to work.

Still a few technical issues but game is fun and I like the change in direction this one took from the standard MMOs.

Had trouble with grouping getting people to the same instance of Tortage as nothing we did seemed to work untill we both ran to a new zone then it placed us in the same zone.

Did you try the little yellow down arrow by the day/night indicator? You can choose the instances from there. It took a couple times to get used to it but it seemed to work well when we figured it all out.

No I did not even know I could do that.

Even after having time in open beta still not familiar with the UI and commands.

Thanks for tip will try that next time.

The only MMO launches I participated in were CoH and WoW.

CoH had many more bugs at launch, and most of us all know how WoW failed due (Qualifier: my take) to misestimation their sales, and not having the infrastructure to support us all.

I'd say for what I got out of this, it seemed it had been rockin the public for 6 months or so. 10 of 10. Some small problems, but so many things done right. I am IN LOVE with the mini-map and it's capabilities.

We shall see how well it handles load during Tuesday's launch. I did notice that Deathw[h]isper, and only Deathw[h]isper was under heavy load on Saturday. But I only saw that only once, on character generation, during the first hour or so of service.

no dx 10 until august (5/19/08)

I had a few gfx glitches* that I found solutions for. Other than that, things were not too bad. Out of my 5 RL friends playing, we were all able to play on Saturday.** I'm working up quite a few different builds at the moment and still uncertain what class I'll play, though I tend towards fighters over mages for my first character in any mmo.

* I'm running on Vista/E8400/8800GTS 512 on High, though I dropped the AF to 4x. Any gfx glitches I've had so far I've been able to fix by checking and unchecking Bloom on the main gfx page or flipping to Low and then back to High.

** One friend kept getting a data corruption on a 2.2 gig file so each restart of the game required a 1.5 MB/s re-download of this file. Sunday this fixed itself.

I had a lot of fun last night. I played for about 4 hours and didn't experience any bugs or crashes -- it's much more polished than the beta discussions lead me to anticipate. I'm still learning the interface, though, and will probably feel more comfortable when I get the instruction book with the box this week.

I was really surprised at how easy it is to get overwhelmed in combat. Several times I died because I wasn't paying attention to my health bar. Between watching the combat, my enemies' shields, and trying to do combos, I completely lost track of my own health. It's a much more engaging system than other MMOs have and I'm liking it so far, but it'll take time to get used to it.

One concern I have is that even at level 11, my Guardian has more combos than will fit on the bar. Does this mean that I'll end up with combos filling up numerous bars on my screen? Or is there some kind of UI wizardry that I'm missing that'll alleviate this?

I find most of the combos are just higher versions of the same line. So I have like, six weapon combos (cunning strike IV, vicious strike II, etc.) and another six bow combos. If the Guardian has more ... yikes I say!

Yeah, I'm creeping over to my side bar with my conquerer. I put all my bleeds on the side and all the basic attacks on the bottom.

Does anyone have any information on Fear point respeccing?

I hit 20 and I realized I havent spent a single point. Im in fear of just choosing unwisely.
I was gonna take some time and review the highest level feats and see which one I like most and then head straight for it.

If I decide later that was a mistake, can I redo my feats?
What is the cost? and does the cost go up the more times I adjust my feats?

Really enjoying the game so far. My only small gripes at this point are that as a healer, I dont have much info on my party except a name and a health line. I'd like to see numbers or percents. And I also have a tough time finding party members on the maps if I am not close enough to them. I also wish the chat windows were more customizable. I'd like to change the alpha on it and tweak a few other things. But those are pretty small gripes, for the most part, having a blast.

I think you can hit ALT and it changes your primary toolbar to a secondary one. But aside from that, Im not sure of any other tips besides just having the skills on a few bars. Hopefully theres something to be done that Im just unaware of at this time.

Edit: Also - I was having a lot of issues with my skills moving when in combat. I try to use the number keys for my primary bar, but I kept removing buttons from my other bars by accident when trying just to click on them. Someone (I forget who, so I cant give them credit) let me know that SHIFT+L will lock and unlock your bars. Very helpful since I dont have the game manual yet.

I've just picked a handful of skills for my Guardian and stuck to using those. There's a couple of taunt attacks, my counterstrike skill and a knockback and I pretty much just alternate between those. I use an alternate set of skills when I pull out a polearm. I see the array of skills as a big set to build a smaller core of skills from, customized to my play-style.

I believe Java has some barbarian in him. He was charging into groups of 4 even-leveled picts at a time, while I plunked away with my crossbow. Much fun!

Haha, I knew you had my back, so four mobs wouldn't be a problem. That was a blast last night; teaming in the game's a lot of fun. I need to figure out how to hold aggro though.

I certainly understand the need for server down time but to take the US servers down for 5 hours during primetime US hours is a bit of an odd choice.

Now maybe there is a good reason but morning or late evening would certainly been the better move.

So here is my extra whine with the late start and this extended down time 3 day early access was more like 2 day.

Other then that though game has a good start lets hope they are ready for the general public tomorrow.

Anyone know where to respec feats outside of Tortage?

Yeah I know, it being a holiday for Canadians here kind of stinks, I had a busy weekend and was hoping to get a bunch of time in today. Ah well, at least I made it to 20 and off the island literally 2 minutes before the servers died

Does anyone know how to log into the official forums? I've tried many combinations of my account/email password etc - no dice.

Go to your account and set up a forum account there. Should get you in.

Tried several times, it simply won't take the username or password I create.

Sorry for the double post, but can anyone think of a reason to install the game from the discs now that we know directx 10 is months away?

DX 10 appears to be runnning fine with the EA version. I was able to select it and have had no issues running the game, so I dont understand Funcoms announcement.

Yeah that is odd. My fiance has a DX10 Vista machine and it seems to be running very nicely on her 8800GT. Maybe it says it's running but it isn't?

After you set up your username and password for Forum access inside your main AoC account, it takes a while until that information starts to work. It has a warning just after you register saying that it should take around 30 minutes. With servers down and all, maybe it will take longer than that.

I'm almost sure I read somewhere that the DX10 option is there, but the game is not really running in DX10 and that it would be available shortly after the main launch. Don't quote me on that though. Too many hours playing got me a bit loopy.

I'm sure my constant re-registering didn't help

I tried setting it up a few times on Saturday with no luck. I tried again today, waited about 20 minutes and I'm finally able to get in.

Well either way the game looks damn fine, even if it's not DX10. Very pretty, very very pretty; If it's wrong to have sexual feeling towards a video game, then I dont want to be right.

Gotta love it when they tuck it into PR about sales numbers. Having played a lot of dx 10 LotRo, I can say it's noticable. No complex shadows!
