Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2

I was just playing DoW2 with boogle two days ago. GFWL is still in.

I guess it is an open beta. You have to right click DoW2, go to properties, select the beta tab, select the open beta pulldown, and then download the game.

Ugh... Great game slogged by steep load times and unskippable, longer than needed cutscenes and dialogue.

I love this game. If anyone wants to do the 'hoard' mode, hit me up. I'm bad at skirmishes, but I'll do them too. We had a really awesom GWJ DoW night a few months back with about 10 people. That was a load of fun. I'd love to see that happen again!

Hmm, that would make us four good to go for horde (carrot, boogle, PWAlessi and me).

Put me in as a sub!!

Check out this awesome mod as well: http://www.dawnofwar.info/index.html

They added a new faction and new units, skins, maps etc.

I could quite possibly be tempted to come back and play some Last Stand mode. Dawn of War 2 is still one of my favourite games.

Are we bringing back the 2v2 tournament?

ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

no.

Unless we have the people for it.

And then, still probably no.

To be honest, even at the prime peak of DOW 2, we still had trouble organizing the event

We did ok for a few months, we got a tournament out of it.

But yeah, even the last time we tried to do a 1-off event there was very little attendance.

I say, you guys go enjoy your horde mode and I'm available for 2v2s if anyone ever wants to get down.

When you guys refer to Horde mode, is that Last Stand?

I'm down for some fightin.

And that Elite mod looks cool, I'll check it out.

Yep. Sorry, I forgot the name and I'm used to Horde mode from Gears of War.

No prob, just wanted to make sure they didn't sneak another mode in there I didn't know about

Okay I have come to the conclusion that chocolate and peanut butter or peanut butter and chocolate needs to happen here with Dawn of War 2 and Gratuitous Space Battles.

Either GSB needs to be tweeked an reskinned with Warhammer or Warhammer 40k units/squads. (perhaps implement some cover in the levels and an AI to seek out cover)

Or, Dawn of War 3 needs unit/squad customization similar to GSB. Imagine IG or Ork infantry or Eldar guardians being similar to fighters in GSB. Most everyone else would be akin to frigates in GSB and things like Devastators/tanks/mechs/heroes being like cruisers in GSB.

Now obviously things would be pared down some. Some of that can be done by removing equipment that doesn't exist or is of little use in 40k: tractor beams, point defense, engines, power supplies. I am sure some of this can be reworked to be of use as unit buffs/debuffs on a reduced scale. (units can have inherent speed that can be enhanced by having an "engine" but only have 1-2 options total rather than 4 for each unit type)
I would like to see some of these buffs/debuffs built into the units or unit types.

And it will certainly help to limit the crazy variety. We don't need 5 frigate shields and 8 cruiser shields unless the equipment gets way more faction specific as would be proper in 40k. I think GSB allows ~90% of equipment as cross faction whereas 40k should be more like 50% or less. Or 40k might be better served by racial bonuses providing the slight adjustments to lasers, rockets and missiles than having 10 discreet types for each weapon.

I think I am going to write Relic or Sega an email or post this on their forums.

I fired this up for the first time recently.

Are the cutscenes super choppy for anyone else? I don't want to dig through 125 pages to find the fix, if one exists.

Also, the audio during game play lags by about a second. It makes it seem like I'm watching the game play out in Korea over a T1 line.

I am pretty sure it is a codec you have to download. For some reason it doesn't install properly some times if I am remembering right...

I see all the Games Workshop games are on sale today.

Why is there no Dawn of War 3?!!!

Seriously, I enjoyed the Dawn of War series more than any other RTS in recent memory. The voice work in the series was just top notch. DoW was my main introduction to the Warhammer universe and for a while, it seemed like the license was being used for some pretty quality games. But, every Warhammer product since Dawn of War 2 has seemed pretty sketchy.

I know that things got pretty chaotic after the THQ implosion, but I'm really surprised that there hasn't been any announcement of a new DoW game.

I got Space Hulk in the last Steam sale, but I haven't fired it up yet. I doubt it will really scratch the DoW itch, but, at least it's SPAAAAAACE MAAAAARINEEEEEES!

We need to hear about DoW 3 pronto. Also there was supposed to be a Warhammer RTS from the Total War devs in the works from the time when Sega bought Relic.

for codecs try the k-lite codec pack. One of my favorite all time games. I played it through about 15 times.....10 times in a row.

GFWL has been purged! Rejoice!

For realsies. I got an update last night and RPS reported on it today.

I didn't hate Games for Windows Live. It really didn't stop me from playing the game.

Same. I kinda liked the achievements too. But if it's got steam achievements now I may have to go back and get those :p

I wonder how many people still play the multiplayer of DOWII and Chaos Rising. I've been thinking of reinstalling retribution to do some Last Stand.
