New unofficial patch for VTM: Bloodlines

Yup.

I've been wanting to replay this, actually, and now that I look, I see that there have been approximately 12932971093 unofficial patches released, since I last played it. Hopefully they improved the performance and scripting issues, which were the only major problem I had with it, back then.

If you haven't played the game, the unofficial patches really allow its brilliance to shine through, despite some lingering issues. Totally worth a play, especially at its current price on Steam.

[edit] - Actually, I don't know if the unofficial patches will work with the Steam version. Anyone know?

I played this about a year ago with a bunch of fan patches. It's an excellent game. If you haven't played it yet, looks like now is the time!

The fans that keep updating the VTM:B patches are really quite amazing. They just keep fixing and tweaking, while also reimplementing a few of features that the devs were forced to leave on the chopping block.

They are a model of orphaned game support! Three cheers. Hip Hip Hooray ... although maybe in vampire-speak that cheer would be more like 'Blood Drip Gory!"

Wesp5, the guy who creates these patches, is pretty cool. A while ago there was a fair bit of controversy about all the extra elements he has been adding in with his patches. Legitimate complaints because some of Wesp5's changes were to make game elements make better sense to him, overwhelming the design of Troika. Also because he has been trying to restore pretty much everything that has remnants left in Bloodline's code, even though there is no indications on what parts were cut out because of time issues, and which were bad ideas discarded during development. Anyway, after talking it through with his critics, his patches now come in two varieties (prompted at installation), basic and extended. As his notes say: "The default basic patch fixes multiple bugs and restores only unused content that has little impact on the gameplay. The optional plus(+) patch adds further improvements and restored content."

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I've had VTMB sitting on my hard drive for weeks. This ought to get me playing it/

Can anyone tell me where I can find the registration code for the game. I bought it - have the discs and the manual and cant find the actual registration code? Please dont tell me its in the box because that I dont have.

Yep, the patches work with the Steam version. I used them a few months ago on my Steam download without any problems.

K, I just installed the game from the retail CD's, and I was never asked for a registration code. It just requires that the CD be in the tray.

I highly reccommend using the high-res/widescreen fix. It may be included in the unofficial patch too; it'd be in the "Tools" folder in the main Vampire folder after installing the patch if it is. There's also a high-res npc texture patch from tessmage (very NSFW site), the actual patch isn't a nude patch, but the site is mostly just that, and has pictures showing them off.

Good lord. Is that a Nude Alyx patch I see? Man... patching Lara to get her tits out is one thing, but doing it to Alyx actually seems pervy to me, for some odd reason.

That said, there's some seriously impressive texture work on that site, though I suppose it's all just ripped from photos. Still, boobies or not, it's funny how far superior their Oblivion work is to the Bethesda originals.

She's of age, but I agree, she should keep her clothes on. I think it's because no one ever gave a damn about Lara Croft as a character.

That's.... that's a lot of nude patches.

Tessera, owner of Tessmage and creator of all those nude patches, has problems beyond the obvious. If you check the download sections, aside from the various nude patches, you will find the "True Patch" for Bloodlines. He constantly launches vicious attacks against Wesp5 (creator of the patch this thread is about), even though Wesp5 has been nothing but reasonable about it all. Tessera's patch is built using Wesp5's uncredited work, and created by someone else, Tessera only provides the hosting and the controversy. Not to mention he's taken his webpage down twice in the last year, because Tessera felt he wasn't appreciated enough. Though he put it back up each time after a short while. So ya, he has problems.

'oh well, I'm sad, installed Bloodlines for another run. Turns out the game has some odd issues with a modern system. All the menu and interface graphics are insanely blurry, though it has nothing to do with resolution. Doesn't look like there is any fix for it, short of constraining my RAM. Well, that puts off replaying the game until I'm in a serious enough mode to really muck around with my computer just to play it.

It runs (and looks thanks to the widescreen/high-res fix) fine on my system, but I'm not sure I'd call it "modern" as it's 2 gigs of Corsair XMS RAM (DDR400), a 6800GS, and an AMD X2 3800 running XP home.

I played through with the 3.5 or 3.7 patch last year, and it's really worth a try. I have no idea how much has changed since then, but it's an extremely fun game with a lot of replay value when it's brought up to a better working order. These fan patches are well worth a look.

Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that he's written a great deal of Erotic Fan Fiction for all of the title's he's done nude skins for?

Back to VtM:B, I played through it last year with the fan patch, and it's good stuff, albeit not awesome sauce. Although to be honest, I didn't get to spend quite as much time as I wanted in later stages of the game being super-badass Vampire dude/gal.

Y'all are damn enablers. A fresh, clean, virgin copy is sitting newly installed (thank you Steam!) on my machine for my perusal this evening. Here's hoping it scratches the RPG-lite-ish itch I've had lately...

Which is why his website is hilarious. Actually, it's less of a site and more like a few loosely connected pages. Very Geocities. You can scroll down for hours and hours and it just keeps getting crazier.

Yeah, I thought I had stepped back into 1997, what with the exaggerated aestheticization of nude patches, self-important blather, and jumbled site design. Ah, it's like recapturing a part of myself.
