Rainbow Six:Vegas 2 - catch all

I'll probably end up getting this one. I'm kind of interested to see how many more times Ubi will use "OH NOEZ! TERROISTS FROM DA SEELING!" to start firefights.

Just wait. Next you'll be complaining about all the terrorists that keep popping out of manholes. There's just no pleasing some people!

How exactly does/did the leveling system work? I've only started playing a 360 since I deployed, so I haven't had a chance to explore the Live system in any way.

By locking away come content behind insanely high point barriers, they shift the online population away from gametypes that are enjoyable to the gametypes that provide the most points per minute. It's a deplorable manipulation of the section of the playerbase that can't help but catch 'em all. It also restricts content from those players that are only going to play occasionally, with no real benefit for anyone. How does the levelling system work? I don't think it does.

I'll buy it, mostly because I can't help myself and I love listening to Legion complain.

SOCOM is coming, no Ubisoft shooter misstep can faze me now.

I hear it's dropping in June 08 and also there will be a bundle for $60.00 that includes Sony's new blutooth headset.

I had no real issue with the leveling system. Most of the benefits were purely cosmetic, and even the few weapons you could get were not any better than what you start with. As for the people playing only to level I just never understood this. The rewards were not substantial enough to warrant the behavior, at least in COD4 they had the perks. Apparently you can put a carrot in front of some people and they will just automatically chase it. It doesn't even have to be a good carrot, you can just throw a crappy pink camouflaged carrot out there and they will spend dozens of hours trying to reach it.

Truthfully I was glad these people were off playing some exploited co-op map as most of the people I would end up playing assassination with were really pretty cool, and the "people I liked" to "asshat" ratio was unusually high. The one thing I think they could have added that would have made the whole thing a non-issue was a server browser. I've said it before and i'll say it again this whole matchmaking nonsense needs to go away. Just give me a damn server browser!

Is there enough GWJ that plan on getting this?

Yeah. I'm there too.

Throw me in the maybe!

I'll have it as quick as gamefly can get it to me. Sending back ass creed tomorrow.

I loved the first one to death.

Another note about the leveling aspect. In V2 it looks like they're going to allow people to playing in single player mode and gain xp that way as well and it'll transfer over to the multiplayer side.

Each time I keep telling myself that I'm done buying these half assed rehash sequels that Ubi keep pumping out and each time I wuss out and buy it anyways.

I'm totally wussing out again.

I'm renting just like last time.

Watching some of the videos I just can't get over how little has changed. I know i'd be interested in this down the road, but for now it'll be joining Army of Two in my 'price drop pile.'

Agreed. I just didn't care enough for the multiplayer of the first to warrant a purchase of the first. I think the biggest part was waiting too long to try it when all the goodgers left. However shouldn't the game just be fun regardless of who you play it with? I think that is where I think ubisofts feel, as of late, has felt obscenely rushed crammed with great ideas and few fully realized and developed.

I'll be receiving it from Gamefly. I didn't play the first one and haven't made the time to go back to it. If it's a fun and has legs I'm sure I'll keep it though the multiplayer will have to be excellent to woo me away from Frontlines on a continuous basis.

Put me in the maybe category.

I'm also a maybe. The lack of patches to address customer needs and also the inability to use split-screen over LAN severely shortened its playtime in my 360.

How's the rank progression and character customization? Is there any? I'm a whore for that kind of stuff.

I liked Vegas 1 even though I sucked at it and had to join farming rooms to rank up. Honestly, I think it's ridiculous that they're setting it in Vegas again. Yaaaay, more casino set pieces.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Put me in the definite column.

Thinking about it, this sounds like a much better way to experience Rainbow Six: Vegas v1.5

I'll be getting it as well.

For the Xbox.

360.

I told myself I wasn't going to get this since I never played the multiplayer for R6:V and I've got enough of a backlog of games to hold me over until next March.

But I've been lying to myself so I'm definitely going to pick it up for the 360.

So far, the list is:

Definites:
Thin_J
Ranalin
Mateo
Certis
Legion
Trainwreck
Stric9
Infinity
Styles
Barab
Souldaddy
Sephirotic
NomadHeretic

I think there is plenty of interest.

Edit: updated for the cheap bastids and herd followers.

Maybe. I liked R6V, it was awesome.

But like others I can't get over how little has changed- this feels like a crapped out sequel. It feels like 6 months since the last one.

I'll put it in the GF list.

Aw man.. I am one of those players.

This is good news if it's true. I don't care about cosmetic perks from leveling, but I'd hate to be restricted on gear. I'm in the 'definitely' column for purchasing this game. Hoping to make my first time on Live with goojers!

I hope you have a Live camera and a good scowl. It's required for playing Rainbow Six Vegas online.

I am in as well put me in the definitely

I can't wait for it.

Well, the developer said all the right things on Major Nelson's podcast, so I'm all the way in. I'm so in, I'm out the other side and then back in again.

That can go so many directions...

On side note I am drifting towards definite!

Why did PC Gamer podcast say this was delayed till April?
